Great video, could you use ordinary clay and just biscuits, or through to glazing, thanks for sharing😊

You suggested test tiles til you get the hang of it. The bonus there is that the mocha doesn't penetrate and can be wiped off or later, sanded or scraped off, thereby not wasting tiles. 😅

I’ve really been struggling to stop my mugs warping. Thanks for the tips. I did follow the link for your templates but they just come up as photos of the template. Is there a way to print them on my printer? I really like that mug shape.
@chowfun19764 күн бұрын
I absolutely love your channel! I made the exact same bowl you made with coiling pieces of clay that were textured with the strings. It came out perfectly round when bisque fired but warped after glaze firing. It’s all wonky after glazing. I didn’t add a flat circular coil at the top like you did. Do you think that’s why it warped?

At the 7 minute point the splay looks a lot like a predatory bird's head. Better than watching clouds.

Looks great. Is the white just the natural white from the clay or is it underglazed? If the first is the case, what type of clay do you use? Thanks for the video

Hey Judy. Thank so much! In your comment, you said "cleaver" instead of "clever". Im not sure if that was on purpose or not but it gave me a good laugh as I pictured myself with a surgeons gown on sculpting those forms, haha. Thanks so much for watching!

This video was fascinating to me. I've never been interested in this type of mug but I definitely have found a new appreciation for those of you who do it so well. Your's have turned out wonderful! This also reminded me of my favorite pottery instructor who always talked about how different parts of ceramic forms are named after human body parts; lip, belly, foot, shoulder, etc. When you think of that while making a vessel, somehow you see your work differently.
@annruel19825 күн бұрын
Hey Vicki! You are so right about the anatomic names for the different parts of the mug. It really does give the sculpted mug a different perspective when you think like that. Thanks for reminding me of that.

This is cool! In the Japanese paper marbling technique suminagashi, you add tiny bit of Photo Flo (a wetting agent) to the ink to make it spread. I wonder if that could be helpful here?
@annruel19829 күн бұрын
Oh, interesting Jeff. I dont know what is in the Photo Flo but you could give it a try. jim and I have been experimenting with all sorts of things. Some work and some not so much, but it is a lot of fun to try. 🙂. Thanks for the ideas and thank you for watching.

@itsclearasmud771812 күн бұрын
Are you orginally printing on bisque or leather dry clay. I am running experiments now sintering cone 6 majolica in an effort to be able to wet the pot and use overglaze transfers. I dont know that i will get the effect thatci want but in trying to avoid putting a clear glaze over the images.
