Been into Jazz/Rock Fusion since the early '70's but missed this one until now . As a long time Soft Machine fan this hits all the right buttons . Another fine band l,ve also discovered from the '70's was German Band " From " . Just when you think you,ve heard it all yet another obscure masterpiece from an unknown band bubbles to the surface . What a great time for inventive, original music the '70's were .

I remember when it was extremely difficult to find great obscure rock from that era. Between the end of the golden age of classic rock and the invention of KZfaq, a period that lasted about a quarter of a century, the only way to find music like this in most cases was to persistently search vinyl records at the rare stores that sold albums like this, talk to obscure rock fans, and do a lot of trial and error. That often involved waiting for certain vinyl records to happen to come in, and that usually couldn't be known about by people who weren't looking for them repeatedly. Things got a little easier in the early 90s because a lot more albums came out on CD and could be ordered. It was still challenging to find the really good stuff. KZfaq has made the process about a million times easier.

Dedalus was one of the first bands in a genre called jazz fusion or electric jazz. The early 1970s was a time when the crossover between jazz and other music fields began, and everything was rocking. It was an era when someone did something and it was the development of a new technique or the creation of a new music genre.

This year "2023" lots of gems from the progressive world are turning half century old... This one included; Dedalus debut is absolutely great, i remember listening to it for the first time, i loved it instantly. Personally, My favorite Jazz Fusion album. (I couldn't find which month and day specifically this album was released so i write this on easter day)

I am particularly impressed by how Marco Di Castri plays (solos with) both guitar _and_ sax. He does most of the soloing, overall -- especially during the modal passages (as opposed to Avante-Garde ones -- That seems to be more of the soloing territory of Fiorenzo Bonansone , who plays piano + cello).

Had this back in the seventies.. heard a lot of the Canterbury sounds we loved... My circle of friends back then were all very into and influenced by this sort of thing, ( euro- prog and fusion). We lived in Phoenix Arizona, and were very active musically, and you can hear some of us on the album "Phoenix by the Pocket Orchestra-- it is here on KZfaq for your parusal and enjoyment, and contains all the hallmarks of the best European progressive bands we love...

Pazzesco,solo adesso mi sono accorto di loro e per un caso fortuito! Eppure.all'epoca,seguivo sia l'italian prog (P.F.M., B.M.S.,le ORME.IL BALLETTO DI BRONZO,IL BARICENTRO,ecc) che altri gruppi piu' vicini alla loro musica come i PERIGEO. Trovo che sono veramante bravi anche se nella loro musica scorgo alcune assonanze con i SOFT MACHINE ed i WEATHER REPORT,comunque la musica è,in molti casi, contaminazione.Forse non hanno avuto un grande seguito in Italia,credo,perchè troppo avanti per quegli anni,purtroppo noi italiani,ed in questo caso mi metto pure io,siamo troppo esterofili a scapito dei nostri che,e lo dimostravano loro,potevano dare dei punti a molti gruppi esteri.Comunque viva KZfaq e chi li ha caricati su KZfaq,ho fatto una grandissima scoperta.Maurizio Bianco

Also, if you love this, you gotta check out Gilgamesh, associated with the Canterbury scene, the friendship with ( and production by Dave Stewart) no saxes on it, but fantastic keyboards by Alan Gowan and also the guitar of Phil Lee everyone else on it sounds great as well... Also gotta love thier second, " Another fine tune" with excellent bass by Hugh Hopper (Soft Machine, Isotope, and great solo albums) I like the cello playing here, which can also be heard on the Pocket Orchestra recordings... Unfortunately, most of the key members are now long dead, but thier great contribution to contemporary music will live on, thanks to thier limited recorded output, meanwhile I am enjoying this record emmensely!...

I used to listen to WMMR in Philadelphia, which was progressive Rock on the FM radio dial at 93.3. MMR would play stuff like the Beatles, the Rolling Stones the Moody Blues, the Kinks, the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna, New Riders Of The Purple Sage, Procol Harum,Rory Gallagher, the Climax Blues Band,John Coltrane, Miles Davis,B.B.King, Albert King,Dedalus, Tiftowein, Crosby, Stills,Nash, and Young, Neil Young, Lightman and Trevas, Simon and Garfunkel,Paul Simon, Jethro Tull, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, the Eagles,Bob Dylan, Elton John, the Band,Pink Floyd, the Allman Brothers Band, Steve Miller Band, the Who,Led Zeppelin,Deep Purple,3 Dog Night,Mott The Hoople, Bad Company,Free, etc. Mark Weintraub.
