I bought a 2004 Ford Ranger a few years back, with only 88k original miles on it, 5 speed manual, BUT it was in terrible condition. The clear pact on the hood and roof were peeling, the bed was destroyed, the underneath was SUPER rusty, it was like they parked it in the ocean, the seats were ripped. Bought it for $1900. We ended up taking the bed completely off, replaced it with a southern, rust free bed, we replaced the rear part of the frame (the old rangers have a split frame) with a southern, rust free frame, we cleaned up the entire front of the frame, and undercoated all of it with POR15. Replaced everything trust needed replaced, got a new hood so the paint didn’t look as bad. Ditched the rotted out wheels and tires for some 31 inch all terrain tires and it looked sweet! I daily drove that thing for a few years. No issues… kind of miss it.

I work as an artist on commission for local classic car community in Belgrade and one of my main clients had a vehicle in absolutely worst condition I have ever seen, so much so that he left it as is for years before he even started work on restoration - only once he knew what he had and how valuable it is, he decided to restore it alongside his father who died before the project could be completed. It is world's only surviving Audi truck from year 1912 that Keiser Wilhelm's German army pushed into Morava river during their withdrawal from Serbia in World War 1. After 87 years in a river, you can only imagine how it looked.

Wow, as Toeland said - a real part of history.... I cannot imagine what it looked like after that long in the river. I gather one saving grace would be, I am assuming the river was a fresh water one and not a salt water near the ocean? Would love to see before and after of that one. Before and after of anything thats been restored after years of neglect are always good. :D

Guys; This was definitely NOT a waste of time! Anything you do/video/etc which enhances your profession: improves your technique: teaches you anything is not a waste of time. This jeep came out beautifully and I would get it checked to see if it runs, can pass emissions standards test etc and put it on the road. Plus, all the costs of materials used on this video car are tax deductions from your business (advertising). Great work guys.

When I was a detailer, we got a wholesale car come in that had bags of trash in the trunk that had been in there for a few weeks sitting in the sun. When it came into the shop to be cleaned, the entire rear end was filled with maggots. The entire spare tire area was full of maggots. It was so bad that they were even in the taillights. I had to remove everything just to get all of them out. Eventually the car was picked up by a local car dealer who had no idea what the car had been like. It was quite an experience and I will never forget it.

I was thinking about your question and was trying to think of an example. Then I remembered; growing up my next door neighbor found a '57 Chevy 4 door sedan. Very rough. Every window was broken. All the molding and clips were gone, severely rusted out floor, grille was missing all the remaining chrome was severely pitted, interior was essentially trash. He did finally get it to start, never got it on the road, I think he finally gave up, rolled it into the backyard until he donated it. Sad. But it was just too much for him.

Yes....when i lived just outside of London in England there was a wreckers yard near my house.... The owner collected only old cars.... He had a wall of old 1930s austin 7s and rubys across the back of his yard....about 8 deep and 20 long.....they sat there for years and when they cleared the yard after he passed away the cars had all collapsed into each other so they attached a chain to both ends of the pile and towed the lot as one to a waiting truck where they cut them up with a gas axe.

My family had a auto shop in Loma Linda Ca for a lot of years and the dirtiest cars that ever came in were nurses cars. One lady brought her car in because her seat wouldn’t move. We thought the motor went out. The seat was removed and it was discovered that a used tampon was jammed in the track preventing the seat from moving. This car was so gross and had so much trash in it you couldn’t see the carpet. When she insisted that she be told why her seat wasn’t work after we told her she walked out and we never saw her again.

The worst car I've seen has been my elderly neighbor's. It was covered in moss, fir needles, pollen, and crusty red spots and crusty black spots. A simple power wash got rid of everything but the crusty spots. Those resisted also sorts of cleaners including iron removers. It took me a while to find the combination of a clay bar with soapy (Dawn dish detergent) water as the lubricant to get rid of the crusties. Regular clay bar lubricant did not work very well. Today I finally got rid of stains on the paint using OxyClean gel laundry stain remover, washing that off, then using the clay bar. Those stains had resisted even straight use of Dawn dish detergent. The OxyClean was a last resort.
