Fantastic performance by an elite group. Ritchie, Ian and Jon, leading the way plus great vocals from David & Glenn. Check out the songs "Stormbringer" and "Sail Away", these are other MK3 bangers.

That's better! Glen Hughes can fairly belt with the best of them! And what we lacked in fashion, we made up for with the music in the 70's! You could try Speed King or Black Knight next? 🤗

Jimmy Page said in a recent interview that Ritchie Blackmore blows his doors off. As far as playing live and doing Is improbation live. You said he was a better lead guitarist. So there is your answer. You got it from the man himself, Jimmy Page.

Glenn still has the range, even now. In 1982 this set was released on VHS. I paid approximately $750 on a VHS recorder….so I could own and play this concert.

@@carolinestirland3126 thank you. Nobody plays guitar like Ritchie and I had never seen him playing live, in any form, up that point. I had everything on Vinyl and was just shy of getting a CD player (the next year I think).

Around 400,000 people there that day. 250,000 paid and the sest broke through the fences. People forget how big Purple were back in the 70s. The Eagles and Sabbath were support acts. Biggest band on the bill but Blackmore wanted to go on second to last just as the sun was going down. Plus, he wanted to make it really difficult on ELP by blowing up his amps, and he destroyed a tv camera with his guitar. ELP were nit happy because everyone remembers Purple more than them from that day.
@MrAki6510 ай бұрын
You obviouly liked the voice of that bass player, Glenn Hughes. So I recommend to check out Rata Blanca ft. Glenn Hughes - Mistreated kzfaq.info/get/bejne/otyjgKRn3M3Nk3U.html Glenn Hughes, (the voice of rock), was in Deep Purple 1973-1976 on bass and backing / additional lead vocals, and in many other bands after that. I have read that his vaocal range is five octaves, from D2 to D6. For me he is one of the best rock singers.

"More Deep Purple, please" is like "Do you want more cake?" I'll go hella obscure. DP: "And The Address", "Faultline/Painter and "Why Didn't Rosemary?" R. "Eyes Of The World" and "Coronarius Redig". The first and last have no vocals.

The live version from the 'Made in Europe' album has superior audio. I see recommendations for "Mistreated" from this concert video but again, the live album version simply sounds better: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r7Z8edl1pqiqgac.html Also from 'Burn', I recommend this live "You Fool No One": kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZstxmdB2ld3RnWg.html

MISTREATED is THE song to react to from this concert (California Jam 1974). Honestly, this one is not great in my view. And I adore the studio version.
@phonebone8111 ай бұрын
That was very good, but only semi-good for me. I have DP seen and heard live with Glenn Hughes and David Coverdale and it was nice, but also `only` nice. And yes "Mistreated" was my favorite song too on the album "Burn". Because the very best performance of DP I see and of course heard was the formation with Roger Glover on bass guitar and one of the best vocalist ever Ian Gillan - one of the best rock singers next to Robert Plant at that time. Sorry but that's just my taste - all the best @all from germany

Coverdale sings like he has a sock in his mouth during the entire performance. Glenn Hughes is definitely the superior vocalist to this very day. Find the video from this concert where Blackmore sets the stage on fire (and Ian Paice). He also trashed 3 or 4 Strats, lol. Petulant child is his hallmark.
@CB-xr1eg2 ай бұрын
I agree, he hadn't figured out how to project his voice properly. That's why I rarely watch this concert.

@michaelkarlsson5966 I simply was pointing out they are better with gillan and the lineups with him singing are the ones I listen to. If u like coverdale good luck to you. Each to their own

That awkward moment when you're the lead vocalist of one the biggest rock bands in the world but you realize your bass player is a better singer than you! 😎 Mr. Glenn Hughes ladies and Gentlemen!
@CB-xr1eg2 ай бұрын
I would dispute that. They both had excellent voices and there are songs that one can sing but the other can't.
@robertm70716 ай бұрын
Awful voice. Bring back Ian Gillan. He was pure class.
@davidclarke712211 ай бұрын
Probably the least liked line up, for me Gillan was a much better vocalist than either of these two.
@victorstefanovsky690211 ай бұрын
In the seventies for me Deep Purple was THE BAND! Incredible musicians, music way ahead of its time. After the departure of original singer Ian Gillian and bassist Roger Glover they took ads I’d Coverdale (who created Whitesnake later on and bassist and vocalist Glenn Hughes (who went to Black Sabbath for a while) and created a monster album Burn which is among the top 3 DP albums….incredible talent!
@michaelkarlsson596611 ай бұрын
I would argue that the least liked line ups of Deep Purple are the mark IV with Tommy Bolin on guitar and mark V with Joe Lynn Turner on vocals. I personally prefer mark III over mark II but not by much :)
