Hendrix was at this Concert. Jimmy saw Deep Purple in one of the 3 Concerts that Purple warmed up Cream on their Farewell Tour. Hendrix went into the Dressing Room and said you just blew Cream away. Purple went and partied at Jimmy's House that Sharon Tate was murdered by the Helter Skelter Gang. Jimmy told Jon Lord that you have is special. Ritchie was nicknamed Mr. Speed. Ritchie was the Original Speed Guitarist and Shredder. Jon Jammed two nights with Hendrix in New York with Dave Mason, Buddy Miles and I can't remember the other guy that played with them those two nights. Jimmy loved Lord's Hammond Skills.

Yeah, holy crap this is the first I've heard of any of this! It'd be great if there was some documentation of any of it. It wouldn't be hard to believe that Jimi was a DP fan, but I hadn't heard a mention of it before. I could see the two bands spurring each other on with their wild untamed energies : )

I've known this performance for years but something occured to me that I've never noticed before. We all know this is a show from them famously supporting Cream and getting kicked off the tour after a few dates. Apocryphal old stories about Clapton being too intimidated by Blackmore are easy to dismiss, as I always have - especially at this stage when he was yet to find his thing with the Strat and was still adjusting from being a showy rock and roll guitarist to what was essentially a psychedelic (but we now recognise as proto prog) band. But here the thing - there's moments on this performance where it sounds ike he's doing a Clapton impression? I hear it in the solo on Kentucky Woman, the very end of Mandrake Root and even the non-scary bits of Wring That Neck seems to sound much more Clapton-like than normal. Could it be that Ritchie was trolling Eric? The fact that he could do that and all that other stuff *and* the Clapton thing might have rubbed him the wrong way? Still more likely that the band were just too bombastic, but it's a nice idea.

@@ElitesGuardian the strat that was given to Ritchie on the LA Forum was a backup guitar Eric had (from 1967, you can see it in some pics of Cream playing at the Whiskey A Go Go on september 1967 or a pic of Cream at the Fillmore West in August 1967 where Jack is also using a red Jazz/P bass), you can see Ritchie using it on a video of Wring That Neck in the studio in 1968 on YT

@@jayvincentmarchetto2633 could you send me a link to the photos? I can’t find them, I am not saying you’re wrong, I am curious because I’ve never seen Eric use it on stage before Ritchie’s acquisition.

@@ElitesGuardian you can find them on Angelfire Cream page, then click on the road to dreams section and scroll down untill you reach August and September 1967 (look at the pics description for the dates) you'll find the Fillmore and Whiskey A Go Go pics. And fun fact is a parts-caster, is a strat body with a tele neck the guitar used by Eric and then given to Ritchie

No. Not in any way. Compared to "Deep Purple In Rock" this statement is pretty nonsense. The Deep Purple line-up that became famous worldwide as a hard rock band was Deep Purple MkII. Because THEY were heavy, not MKI. And it was very important for the further development that Ian Gillan joined one day (summer '69). Rod Evans couldn't have sung a single track on In Rock as heavy and with such presence as Ian Gillan, never.

@@cotr-christmasontherocks4649 i firmly believe that mk i is far harder edged and heavier in the real sense of the word than mk ii might be. The bass player nicky simper is a bad ass, no wonder his band WARHORSE sounded to me like the next step of deep purple mk i and is , I.M.H.B.O. far heavier and harder than purple mk ii 's " In Rock. @@caidoangel8209 I agree. He’s an incredible bass player. More true American blues/r&b/rock feel than the other guys although those two both are great as well.

@@MrNielsPunk well yes & no - he starts & ends on the ES335, but the solo section where he does little more than toss the guitar around & bang it there's a few frames where you can see it's a Strat. Excellent quick change from roadie. I'm delighted this is here 'cus there seems to so little Mk1 live footage, but you can't deny the video is dreadful!

@@barrieflix is correct he starts and finishes with the ES335 but the he uses a black with white pickguard telecaster during his solo, you can se Ritchie using that Tele on a promotional video of Hush (the one where Rod jumps in a pool, and the guys are just miming the tune) that was recorded around the days of their concerts with Cream
