Doc Watson was an American guitarist, songwriter, and singer of bluegrass, folk, country, blues, and gospel music. Watson won seven Grammy awards as well as a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Watson's flatpicking skills and knowledge of traditional American music are highly regarded. Watson taught himself to play fiddle tunes on his Les Paul electric guitar. He later transferred the technique to acoustic guitar, and playing fiddle tunes became part of his signature sound.
He performed with his son, guitarist Merle Watson, for over 15 years until Merle's death in 1985 in an accident on the family farm.
Directed by Terry Allen Williams, Produced by Thomas Lofstrom
This series features progressive bluegrass and country music performed at the Telluride Festivals, and is available on DVD from TheFestivalTapes@gmail.com

There will never be a Doc Watson ever again. He was a true national treasure. The best flatpicker there ever was. I saw him & Merle play at Ebbits Field in Denver 1974. 200 people. Very intimate venue. They were the best ever!!!

So much great music that I've never heard of because of the radio air play. This came up on my suggestions from Mississippi John Hurt. This is the best ever as a fisherman! And this is real talent! Love it!

There was nothing on this planet like Doc and Merle singing and picking with T Michael Coleman. They inspired the Doc and Merle Watson Memorial Festival in Wilksboro, North Carolina getting bigger and better every year.
