Deer trapped on the ice for any period of time are totally exhausted from fighting the ice. Their legs are shot. Their hoofs are useless on the ice. Way to go guys. I like that you all used a boat to get out there. It's much safer than some of the rescues I have seen.

You wonderful, wonderful man! You went out on your own to rescue that beautiful creature. Why did the person doing the taping cut off the end. Tell him the next time he decides to tape something to get the whole thing rather than just what he thinks is interesting. Thanks for sharing.

This is a VERY common occurrence. Saw dead deer on a frozen river many years ago; once they go down that's it, they can't get back up and they died of starvation. Very sad. Tricky rescue...first i've seen of this kind.

Yes I agree why on earth stop filming when we want to see the deer run free from this event. What a clever way to rescue a deer. This should be in a commercial as a handy dandy how to rescue method.

The deer was over a football field from shore. I was using a very large telephoto lens which made it look much closer than it actually was. After the deer was secured, those on the shore pulled the boat back to shore very quickly. I needed to change lenses to be able to capture what was happening right at the shoreline. The deer was exhausted from its struggle and laid by the shore where it regained its strength. There was no opportunity for any further photos as the deer got up in those blueberry bushes and eventually made its way into the woods.

And the win goes to guy with no life preserver or anything else but savvy and compassion . The deer comes out with exhaustion and a new lease on life. Guy looks like a prototypical hunter. Because real ones harvest animals and there is not one iota of pleasure in cheap shots or watching suffering.

Great stuff, but the YT ended too soon (as do most animal rescue YTs). Better to also show the animals recovery and walking off into the woods.
