Firefighters rescue a dog stuck in a frozen lake, in this amazing rescue video captured in New Jersey.
"My fire company was called to a dog thru the ice at Lindys Lake in West Milford NJ. Upon arrival we sent two firefighters with cold water suits in to rescue the dog, a German sheperd, the dog tried to bite the rescuers but they were able to pull it out and the dog was fine," the filmer wrote online.

Well done people. I hope that dog is ok now. I agree w what others have said - the owner certainly isn't trying very hard - the dog has obviously been through a terrifying ordeal and wants to avoid falling into the freezing water again - he/she needs a lot more encouragement and support than the owner is giving!

Реально тупые,собака и так в стрессе они орут,руками машут,десять человек шоу смотрят,доску суют,ни однлго спокойного ласкового слова и ни кусочка вкусненького чтоб успокоить и внимание переключить,скорее с палкой- петлей в догонку.собака умнее их оказалась,вот и не подошла.

Not necessarily, that dog could be scared because of the situation they are in. My dog has never been abused and I went away for ONE entire day and my neighbors took care of my dog. They took her out to pee and she would refuse to get Inside. My neighbor tried to carry her inside and she got kind of mad and wouldn't let them touch her. She was waiting for me outside. She's a really friendly dog so I thought it was kind of off character for her to do that but I wasn't around... Her "mom" wasn't around so... 😅

Three things were happening here. The dog is fearful of strangers, and wanted to get as far away as possible from them. And where the owner was standing, there was a pool of water between him and the steps, and he was too afraid to go that way. He needed to jump up the embankment, but one can see his hind legs are weak, but he finally managed it. German Shepherds can be incredibly neurotic through in-breeding, and owners who don't know how to cope with this intelligent working-dog breed.

RangerJaxMax May - you're exactly right, the ice was thin near the steps where the owner was standing. She was doing the right thing actually - remaining calm, and not trying to get onto the ice herself. The dog wanted to go to her, but his first instinct was to get away from all the people. He obviously has a problem with strangers, which could be as a result of not being socialised as a puppy. It could also be because of poor breeding. Badly bred GSD's can have real problem personalities, and hip and hind leg problems. In this particular situation, the dog was totally freaked out, and, quite frankly, nothing anyone did would have been the right thing. At least they got him out of the water, and the next best thing was for him to get away from all those people and off the ice.

Not weird. The same happens when a dog has been lost for an extended period of time, they frequently will not come to their owners. It's the "fight or flight" syndrome and in this case, this dog is most likely in some sort of shock.

TOTAL RESPECT AND GRATITUDE! You all are heros in my eyes. I hope someone checked on this dog. GSD's are not so cautious after being rescued. I have had several of them. Yes, any animal can bite when they are scared, but after he was out of the water for a bit he should had gone to someone. Personally, I think, like many on here, he/she is abused. I hope the man is ok. God bless everyone of you helping. Also, question. Do the suits they have on keep them warm and dry in freezing water? After the man got out of the water he stood around to see if he needed to help more. I would have run and changed into warm clothes, but I'm guessing those suits keep the person dry.

Something is wrong when a dog does not want to go home or go to the owner. Apparently the dog was also afraid of human, even tried to fight off the people who trying to save him. The dog was probably abused in someway by human.

Also very concerning. As an owner of 2 Schutzhund III German Shepherds from Germany, our dogs love and trust us. This dog is not only young, he is afraid of his owner. I have no doubt that this dog has suffered physical abuse from his owner.

Well done to the rescuers who risked their own lives to save this dog. I cannot believe the judgemental comments by so many ppl in this comment section. You have never clearly owned a dog or paid attention to what was happening. I don't believe this dog has an owner. The dog looks homeless. Dogs that live on the street can be vicious because they don't trust anyone. Not every dog has an owner or they may have been abandon for a very long time. The description in this video is that someone called the emergency services because they saw a dog in distress. There is no info about an owner. It was clearly one of the rescuers trying to get the dog off the ice. She or he is not the owner!!

Погода достаточно тёплая - собака не замёрзнет. Посмотрите, все ходят в лёгких одеждах, без шапок или в лёгких кепках. Явно, что плюсовая температура. Через часа 3 шерсть высушится и всё будет хорошо.

You guys need more training. Never let a frightened and confused animal loose under these circumstances. Wrap the dog in a blanket and provide aid. Rescue 101.

How are they supposed to "wrap it in a blanket" when it's an aggressive German Shepherd that bit them several times. Notice how it doesn't even trust its owner. This was not a typical rescue situation because they're clearly dealing with an abused animal that has a distrust of people.

I agree, he's afraid of strangers: fear/aggression. German Shepherd. They are highly strung. He wanted to jump up that wall to his owner, but hips and hind legs traditionally weak in this breed. And the icy water probably made his legs weaker. Great job by fire fighters for getting him out of there👏👏❤

in my opinion. the owner put this beautiful specimen in the freezing waters. i could be wrong but how can you explain that the owner is not doing shit for her dog, and how could you explain the dog don't want to go where his owner is? I'll buy this dog if someone would give me more info about it.

Awww, the camera person fumbled just when the terrified dog way trying to climb the wall to safety. Clearly he was afraid of falling into the water nearer the steps. He seems young, afraid and confused. The owner doesn't seem to be to bright. Great job Firefighters. Your reward was almost getting bit and you still persevered. God Bless you all for your bravery and for caring.

Thank you to the rescuers. I know it was difficult because the dog was biting. But if I was the owner I would have been out on the ice once fire and rescue got the dog out. It takes time for a dog to gain trust in its owner, but once trust is earned its unbreakable. Puppies do get away sometimes, so I won’t be to critical of the owner. I just hope their bond grows.

WTF was wrong with the men who got him out to just yell at him to go home? The doggie was in frozen water. They should have put him in a blanket and brought him back to shore. Are these trained first responders?? Pitiful...

Not trained well in rescuing animals in stress situations. More training and possibly equipment will help. I hope they are trained in dealing with people under stress.

If you watch the beginning, the dog was fearful and aggressive - it tried to bite the recuers a couple of times, and did bite the guy, with the sled, on his hand. The best way to deal with a fearful, aggressive dog in this situation, seeing as the owner was close by, is to remain calm, and let the dog go to its owner. This took a while bc it needed to jump up the embankment to her, and its hind legs were weak, esp after treading water for who knows how long. I don't think that poor doggo will be doing that again anytime soon.

Did you see the aggression the dog exhibited? Are you even trained in basic animal rescue? I doubt it. Don't become ignorant.

you did not see the dog biting the responder? The dog is afraid of people because he is afraid of the owner.

Give thanks for you guys who value animal over people life and health. For me, the moment he bit the rescuer he would be a dead dog.
