There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with The Dukes of Hazzard, The General Lee OR The Rebel/Confederate Flag on the car. Objects can't be racist. Objects do not create hate.

@@paulcoy9060 That's not categorical proof of racism. Compare it to other popular TV shows of the time: "Dallas", "Days of Our Lives", "Knight Rider", "Little House On The Prarie", etc, etc. I'm sure we could list the entire lineup of TV series that didn't have many or any black actors at the time. To begin with, there's no such person as "Uncle Jesse"; it was a character played by actor Denver Pyle. In the clip, Mr. Pyle is reciting dialogue that was written by someone else. He's repeating A SCRIPT. Second, the Confederate Battle Flag is a symbol of white supremacy. How do I know that you might ask, well the person who created it said so. William T. Thompson, creator of the Confederate Battle Flag specifically said the flag was a symbol of white supremacy. Thompson said of the flag, “As a people we are fighting to maintain the heaven ordained supremacy of the white man over the inferior or color race. A white flag would thus be emblematic of our cause. Upon a red field would stand forth our Southern Cross. Gemmed, preserving in beautiful contrast the red, white and blue.”
@Sennaxm71
@Sennaxm71 4 жыл бұрын
@@JJSmith-le5mu indeed that may have been the initial use for the flag yes, but it came to stand for rebelling against the powers that be, much like the swastika was a symbol of peace in India before being used by the Nazi's, so that flag's meaning got changed, why is it hard to understand that the Confederate flag got re-used to symbolise rebels. They never once said or did anything racist in the TV show, in fact the Sheriff of Chickasaw County was a huge black dude, that was as straight up as they come, everyone feared and respected him. Also I know plenty of black people that loved and still love the show, and didn't be snowflakes about a flag on the roof of a car, because it wasn't something that was a big deal to most people with sane minds.
@JJSmith-le5mu

@@Sennaxm71 Sir, I presented you with proof that the Confederate Battle Flag was designed to be a symbol of white supremacy straight from the man who designed it to be that. Yet you reject that proof because it does not fit with your preconceived notions. I've provided the facts. If you choose to ignore/deny those facts, there's nothing more I can say or do.
@Sennaxm71
@Sennaxm71 4 жыл бұрын
@@JJSmith-le5mu how the feck did I reject the truth? I even admitted that it may well HAVE BEEN the original intent of it, therefore admitting your evidence. I merely presented you with more facts, that YOU choose to deny, not me pal. 'tis you sir, that is the one in denial, anyone with half a brain didn't and still doesn't give a hoot what flag was on the roof of the car, to us, it wasn't about racism, it was about good values and integrity, and as a kid, I loved the General Lee sliding about sideways and doing jumps, and I am certainly no racist, as my wife and son are mixed race. And my wife is that easy going, I'm sure if I really wanted one, I could have a giant Confederate flag in our house, and she wouldn't mind, or think I was being a racist. Because she knows, if I did want it, it would be because of my love for the Dukes of Hazzard and my being a bit of a rebel, not for any low down nefarious reason. Also, if I'm being honest, I don't like the fact that you think we were all stupid enough to believe that it was Uncle Jesse saying those things. Obviously he was an actor, and obviously he was reciting lines he'd learnt, we're not still 6 years old back in the 70's, so it kind of goes without saying really doesn't it, unless you're wanting to sound like a dick 🤣

How was he a bad guy dah ? If you can recall at all, if there was a bad black guy in the show, he always had a white accomplice with him, there wasn't just a bunch of black guys ganging up on the Duke boys. They were ex-cons that did time together, yes, blacks and whites did time together dummy, like what happens in real prison. If so I kinda understand that. Using the confederate flag to express a lil rebel inside us. Cool concept. But you can’t tie heritage to it. The heritage of that flag is very nasty and vile. They hated the north. They hated the thought of losing their slaves. They hated they lost. They hated the slaves were free. They hated the ppl that were slaves. They used that flag when they were doing the killing and the hating and the building of the statues. 🤷‍♂️ js

@@Kman8962 I spiritually and emotionally feel exactly where you are coming from but realistically all these controversy over the Confederate flag and monument removals are a little over the top. If you wanna erase any trace of the United States racial history then that would mean renaming cities like NYC which was named after a slave owner and virtually destroying places like Mount Rushmore and etc etc. Where would it end? Instead of removing these items add to them that way in solidarity they'll coexist and people can see all the aspects of America. The good, the bad and the ugly. I'm more impressed than angry with them whose stand up proudly for their heritage regardless of what it details. A change is indeed coming but we need to except things we can't change. The past is the past so let's just move forward. Dr Martin Luther King would have never approved of destroying or demolition of monumental monuments whether they are racist or not. Yes, you're right. It was the battle flag of an army that marched in defense of legalized slavery. The war was 155 years ago. No one alive today needs to feel shamed by it, but there's also no reason to celebrate it these days or pretend that it was something more noble than what it actually was. Do you know what the actual national flag of the Confederacy was? It had a small version of the battle flag in the top left corner and the rest of it was completely white...because white superiority. Not kidding. Look it up.

History can't be erased. There will always be history books and museums. I struggle to understand how anyone with a soul can show reverence to a man who fought for the continuation of slavery. A man who, by historical accounts, was particularly brutal in punishment of slaves, believed slavery to be a benefit to Africans, and went about the business of buying slaves who were set to be freed and breaking up the families through selling them. Is that the type of man who should be honored? Stop confusing mythology with actual history.

What do you think happened to my ancestors? Our heritage was beaten, raped, murdered, and so on from us as well. So badly that we have no sense of what tribe we're from. You just named all your ancestral lineage. I can't. I've tried to find my lineage. Africans don't even consider black Americans as partially African. As a national emblem, it is significant of our higher cause, the cause of a superior race, and a higher civilization contending against ignorance, infidelity, and barbarism.” The phrase "as heaven ordained." meaning God bestowed the "supremacy of the white man over the inferior or color race." To the people that say the "rebel" flag stands for hate. That flag was adopted by the veterans of the civil war associations to always be flown with the American flag at memorials and parade events to celebrate the healing or (reunion) of the U.S.A. If it weren't for the forgiveness of Christ and the obedience of those who listened to His instruction on both sides, there'd be a big checkpoint all the way across this country like N and S Korea! Visa and Mastercard are symbols of hate to me.... Does that mean I can have'em shamed out of existence for doing what everyone knows they do naturally? If you ain't spreadin' God....you're spreading the devil. And if you ain't tellin' the whole truth, you're livin' a lie no matter what symbol you carry into battle.

@@srh667 I'll restate it clearer for you. Those memorials and that particular flag were adopted by the veterans of the civil war associations as a way to remember the cost of war! The flag was to always be flown WITH the American flag at memorials and parade events to celebrate the HEALING or (reunion) of the U.S.A. But for the obedience to Jesus Christ and the law of GOD on the topic of the forgiveness, by those who listened to His instruction on BOTH sides of that great conflict, there'd be a big checkpoint all the way across this beautiful country, like N and S Korea! Visa and Mastercard are symbols of hate to me.... Does that mean I can have them and everything they touch shamed out of existence for doing what everyone knows they do naturally? If you're a liberal progressive.... so much for diversity and freedom of choice if you do! The current ignorance blossomed because our historical knowledge got twisted and rewritten or intentionally forgotten! So the battle over these memorials is not a simple as North v South or Black v White! Prime example of how perspective comes into play would be, if a Civil war broke out between BLM and the US Army, what side would you defend? If your state chose BLM would you leave it, join it, or fight against your own state? To me BLM is the same as ISIS and the 11th letter of the alphabet x3! .....But yet we all see which one of those abbreviations gets censored by the algorithm here because it "offends" someone. During the Civil war, many men and boy's who HAD NO CHOICE because they were of "legal" age ( 13 ) to be drafted, fought for "their rights" in the Civil war and DIED while others wrote books and fanned the flames for profit! The reason the south lost before they began is exactly because of its leaders support of an ancient, horrible, dying institution.....but as far a I know nobody today is MADE to join the police force of their state or city... so we should never forget the cost of being wrong! Maybe a museum would be the place but that wont stop people like you from lobbing around accusations and hateful propaganda meant to foment hate will it? I maintain. If you ain't spreadin' God....you're spreading the devil.... And if you ain't tellin' the whole truth, you're livin' a LIE!
