Yeah! There are way too many defendant's that are too familiar with the judges. Now maybe it's just me, but if a judge recognizes your hair as different, calls you by your first name, or says "How long have we known each other?" and your response is anything but "not long" your life has probably gone off the rails and you need to get your crap together Also when they refer to your previous cases as "the last batch of cases"

The sense of entitlement among these defendants never ceases to amaze me. They get pissy and storm off when things don't go their way. It's like they fail to realize they're in jail because of their own actions.

That's a big part of why they're there in the first place. If you learn to accept responsibility for your actions and accept the consequences early in life, you usually also learn to stay out of legal troubles. Addiction, narcissism, and criminality often go with this kind of denial of culpability - it's part of the pathology.

You’d be amazed how many people act like that in their standard life. I’m an Emergency Medical Dispatcher & Paramedic & had a woman contact us 7 times in just over an hour on a Friday night, because the patient was demanding an ambulance for her toothache. And of course, because she was in pain (despite having had the toothache for a few days & doing nothing about it), she felt that she was the highest priority case that there was & should be dropping everything to race around there urgently for her 🙄

"Dunno why I'm gaining weight lately!" "Dunno why I'm spending money so fast, no idea where it's going!" ...kinda the same thing. Just... I know, right? I really like Magistrate Fink, but when she says "I would if I could" about lowering bond, I was like....??? And this is why you can't just believe everything a defendant says. Just before wrapping up, Magistrate Fink _again_ states bond is $10k/10%. She flat-out lies at the Simpson hearing when she says her bond was reduced from that. (She'll _pretend_ a misunderstanding if she's ever called on it because of all the back-and-forth with Fink, but it was very clear that she came in knowing it was 10k, Fink repeatedly said she couldn't change it, and then Fink confirmed the 10k at the end. Makes you wonder about all these "misunderstandings" with the Zoom meeting and her name.)

It is probably the saddest part of the whole thing. The people who just made a mistake will usually recognize Judge Simpson and Magistrate Fink are doing everything they can to help. Then you get the idiots. The ones who get upset when they are being given a break while still being held responsible for their actions. The ones that, sadly, will almost certainly be back because they won't learn how to function like reasonable law abiding citizens.
@-HeyLyd-
@-HeyLyd- 2 жыл бұрын
@@Blasted2Oblivion Yes, you see this all the time with those repeatedly in the court system. They get so many "breaks" and it seems to morph inside their heads into "entitlements." Next thing you know, you've got attitude for days because everything's not going their way each time they reoffend. It gets to where they can't see when their own behavior has got them where they are. (She stresses the one Zoom mix-up, but Fink states at the end that she's missed several other dates on the traffic citations. Think this played some part in the higher bond set by Simpson? Cmon, defendant, you're just seeing what you want to see.)

Yeah- she lied, but what I noticed even more was that she didn't bring up to Simpson that she was waiting to appear, and they logged her off repeatedly. That's really odd don't you think- I mean that was her main point in the first appearance and the judge agreed with her- stated she would do it but she didn't have the authority. And yet I didn't hear her say anything about that to Simpson- I'm taking care of my mother and she has a bunch of kittens- I moved her in with me so I could take care of her. So I'm really distracted- maybe she did make the argument but- I never heard it. I don't know about you but if the first judge agreed with my point and basically said I shouldn't be locked up- I'm definitely re-arguing that point when I see the judge who does have the juice to set me loose. The fact that she didn't makes me think Simpson knows better and she knows it.

She did bring that up with simpson, she said that she kept getting logged out by the administrator because her name wasn't correct. Fink is so awesome! She is gracefully balanced on the line between listening to, and empathizing with defendants, while also having a great BS meter and not allowing herself to get too emotional, and lose control of her courtroom. Hopefully, one day, she’ll get elected to the bench and be a judge alongside Judge Simpson.

"I would if I could" lower the felony bond. No consideration given to her victim I guess. No wonder they get right out and do it again, because there are no real consequences to their actions.

She’s honestly insisting her bond was lowered from $1000. to $10. With two judges. I know it’s frustrating but she was mad at the wrong people. Also her name is stupid. Lol

You know, that's one of those things that I think of now and then. How would this kind of case go nowadays? I mean, here in the modern US, his actions wouldn't have been illegal but, setting that aside, I imagine that would be an interesting case.

Such a good idea to not let soft hearted judges reduce bonds on felonies. That defendant was so full of it and judge fink was lapping it all up. She would have let her out on a PR bond if she could.

Judge Simpson's restrained smile is remarkable. Pause it and look at it. He's letting the defendant hang himself, but it's doing it without judicial bias. Beautiful.
