Defender vs Patrol vs Wrangler vs Discovery 4x4 Challenge @ Spanish Waterfall - Including Roll Over

A 4x4 challenge in slightly wet conditions at the Waterfall track in the Spanish Steps Lithgow. 5 four wheel drives take on the track including 2 Land Rover Defender TD5 110s, a LS powered Nissan Patrol GU, a Jeep Wrangler JKU Rubicon and a Land Rover Discovery 2a TD5. Time stamps bellow.
It is a short yet difficult trail that requires correct wheel placement to make the climb. It is also a matter of inches in wheel placement between going straight up and rolling over. Unfortunately one of the 4wds rolled over but received minimal damage as he laid on his awning and slider.

I would never put any of my defenders through something like that unless it was extremely necessary. Wouldn't be so careful with an older wrangler though.

Tire pressure Is definitely a factor here, also most Wrangler Rubicon two doors would do better here. A longer wheelbase like on the 4 door models are a real killer on trails . I say hands down the Defender won this , but if you notice it’s tires were lower for the right crawling power . Ps Maxxis Trepador

Awesome video. I would have taken a different line to the Jeep , air down more and use the front locker. Land Rovers are awesome tough.

I was gonna say.. did the jeep even air down.. you can go down to 15psi with out bead locks.. probably would of made that first obstacle.. easy.

Intense. Yeah he was lucky to recieve minimal damage. We had a bit of a laugh telling him he wiped out half the side of the rig. Was so surprised when he came out and looked.

What pressures do you guys suggest for this terrain?

LROR It really depends on the rim and tire steel vs aluminum, & bias ply vs radial tires!!🤷‍♂️ To start, I usually run 10-15lbs as a good rule of thumb and adjust from there! Terrain plays into it too, as I’m in Washington state it’s a little wetter here, so lower psi works better! Bead lock rims can let you run lower pressure without breaking the bead, so there that too!! It’s all good and fun to play with as long as you make small adjustments

Nice lazy lay down by the Defender, glad it was minimal damage. Frustrating watching the Disco though, needed to have just a tiny bit of momentum to bump the back wheels up those rocks instead of trying to climb them from a standstill.

As some one who know nothing about this sport. It looks to me like they all had the necessary grunt but were let down by the grip. I think if they were fitted with proper all terrain tyres at 10 psi, they would have sailed up there.

Machines can do the job or fail but I didn’t see any four wheelers experience, tyres pressure, guiding the drivers for the right line from multi sources, wrong winching for the defender and poor safety examples to be present to public ...

It's video. The owner said they were at 10psi. Everything is steeper than it looks due to video compression. And I think the Land Rover winching was spot on considering they got it upright and didnt cave in the bodywork

Maybe I'm wrong here, but I think the defender has more torque than the others which gave it a slight advantage on this particular track, but it's also tippy! That said, it's damn durable, which makes it the best one in my mind for a real excursion.

I don't have a disco, but I'm looking for an opportunity to buy one. My guess: disco is heavier, has slightly less articulation, and is slightly lower. Of course all these card are heavily modified, but a heightened Defender is still slightly taller and lighter then a heightened disco.

If you mean pressing the brakes well just to get more control. This is very effective especially in an auto.

Hard to say each has its place but the Pinzgauer is probably more capable in stock form and can be decked out really nicely for touring/camping.

A Mercedes Benz Gelandewagen on that trail ? I don ‘t think so Each hit in the stones is thousands dollars in repairs Because its not best 4x4. Because its high value its not made for that
