This video provides a concept you can take with you in any Madden from this point forward. There are several ways teams defend sets like this. Madden does not provide us with all the tools. I'm here to showcase a glimpse of what a professional team would do in certain defenses to combat a formation like gun tight . . . and try to grab one of the few tools Madden provides.
I primarily played Cover 9 to defend Gun Tight with minor adjustments. Maybe that will be for another video. This video just gives you another wrench for the toolbox . . .
00 - 0:15 - Intro
16 - 1:44 - What people are trying to do from these reduced type formations.
45 - 4:38 - Playbook dive into how a professional team defends formations with stack sets. The most important information I gathered from looking at playbooks was an advantage you get from playing single high against formations like this. Playing with - Outside Leverage - against this formation.
39 - 5:37 - ZORRO. Looking at the playbook - A defense they titled Zorro. Pay attention to how they don't waste players drifting off to space.
38 - 7:05 - ZULU and ZEBRA. Looking at the playbook. - A defense they titled Zulu and a defense they titled Zebra.
06 - 9:00 - Lock and Level , Halo, and Tango. Cover 1 Man to man type defenses against this formation. Again, playing with outside leverage to condensed type formations like this.
01 - 11:10 - Single High might do a better job at leveraging the outside of this formation.
11 - 12:00 - I like to play single high from a 2 high shell. This video dives into the cloud version. I will get into buzz in a different video hopefully. Your cloud corner is someone we can use to adjust. I hope to get into that later.
01 - 14:36 - Problems with the defense against this formation and the presnap adjustments we make to imitate the philosophy of the professional teams playbook.
37 - 16:07 - Your defensive coverage is always directly related to your front. Your 3rd level defenders are really anchored off of your 2nd level defenders. Your 2nd level defenders are anchored off of your 1st level defenders. When building a defense, I think you should build from 1st level first and define the run fits. In this segment, I just go over the shift I do from this particular formation to deal with run issues and protecting the user's run fit. Your shifts may be different depending on your formation.
08 - 16:51 - Game action. Deuce close. Same Philosophy.
52 - 17:35 - Gun Tight. Always remember. Read the concepts they are running within the formation and find the zone underneath that is not being threatened. Then make adjustments with that player. Looking at this play. . . If he would have continued running this concept, I could have turned the hard flat into cloud, which would have allowed me to cushion the seam longer , or user the backside hook to run with 2nd inside route. Still - primary focus we are trying to eliminate with single high against this formation is to leverage the outside. No outside routes allowed. The only way they can attack outside is if they flood the outside with routes because floods can always get stretched. . . .and Madden has no cover 3 match principles against this formation.
36 - 18:12 - Gun Tight. Interception.
13 - 19:15 - Tight Formation. Interception.
16 - 20:00 - Tight Formation. Bench Concept. Interception.
01 - 21:39 - Closing.
