Do you feel like they’ve bred these other breeds that you are referring to away from guardian dogs into more of just a home pet? Asking sincerely

@@theronyoumans1383absolutely go look at the Rottweiler, they look like pug hybrids. Or the Doberman. The drive just isn’t there. Not saying there aren’t any badass rotts or Dobermans but not like they used to be. It’s sad to see.

@@905royals Farm dog isn't a thing. It is many different things. Many different dogs. One is catch dog. What did they do on a farm? Catch unruly cattle and pigs. The job of catch dog has always been split equally over agricultural and hunting applications, and likely the lineage originated with herdsmen from central asia who tamed semi-wild cattle with these broad mouthed gripping dogs.

@@905royals I'm not talking about the recent recreation. That is a pageant contestant and of no interest. I'm talking about the pool of working dogs they pay homage to. The bulldogs of the canary islands. They were of course catch dogs. Ready for application on the farm or the hunt or in a pit for a laugh, whatever the case may be. They are point and shoot subjugation dogs by design. The modern presa canario, like all pure breeds, is of course just a big monstrosity and a joke, but this could be fixed by actually testing their ability to catch and subdue dangerous animals before breeding them. Then you are ACTUALLY preserving the canary island bulldog, as opposed to making a mockery of it.

@@905royals they are. They're responsible for ruining it. The creation of the show breed is the ruination of the working dog in every instance. When you start breeding dogs because "they are presa canarios" as opposed to "I need to catch that hog" (or whatever) you are killing the dog. By trying to preserve it, you render it extinct.
