It was my pleasure to speak with Masih Alinejad, a hero who has shown courage and willpower in her fight for the freedom of women in Iran, and against the beastly clerics who rule it.
Her book The Wind In My Hair and her ongoing campaign to dismantle the oppressive dictatorship of Khameini, calls for Iranian women to protest against the country’s law of forced-hijab. The symbolic gesture is also reflective of growing rebellion in the nation that battles extremist Islamism’s disdain for basic human rights and freedoms.
We spoke about others like Salman Rushdie and Narges Mohammedi who continue to fight censorship through their work despite the risks, and about Masih’s continued efforts to meet hatred with courage.

I'm an Iranian born in 2000. In 2013 when I was 13, I encountered two books that completely changed the curse of my life: 1_ Grand Design by Stephen Hawkins - which made me pursue mathematics as a career and start questioning creationism. 2- God Delusion by Richard Dawkins - which enabled me to annoy and frustrate my religion teachers as much as one can 😆.I claim more than 80% of my school mates from high school are atheists . I really really appreciate it that you invited Massih, and I hope the Iranian new atheist generation will one day be able to meet great thinkers like you inside free Iran.

The Muslims in Pakistan makes an argument in the support of Iranian regime that the people who are protesting are just a tiny minority and the majority supports sharia laws and are okay with Iranian regime which i think also doesn't give them the right to impose their believes on others but i am curious is the number of atheists are enough or there any secular Muslims in Iran to over throw this regime ?
@LudwigZand
@LudwigZand 6 ай бұрын
@@Bil491 Especially young people in Iran are very secular. Since they associate Islam with dictatorship, murder and oppression they don't want anything to do with it. However, even the deeply religious are against the Islamic Republic. This revolution isn't led solely by secular Iranians but by Iranians of all walks of life. No matter what they believe - or don't believe - they are united by a deep yearning for freedom and love for this great nation, that is currently occupied by Islamist terrorists. The mullahs kill our compatriots, no matter if they are Muslims, atheists or Zoroastrians. So everyone is united against them. The only people who support the regime are those who profit from its systematic oppression and exploitation (IRGC and their relatives and other people who work for the regime). If the governments in countries like the US or Germany would stop giving the mullahs money, legitimizing and supporting them, we might have gotten rid of them already.

Hi, Thank you for the interview. I am an ex Muslim and I was borne in Egypt. I’m going to make an attempt on answering that very important question, why are they scared of women, as I spend the first 28 years of my life in an Islamic culture and I was a devout Muslim. Islam has created this connection between honour and women’s sexual organs. I was actually arguing this with a woman on facebook yesterday. I grew up in the 70s and the country was fairly liberal. Then I spent my teenage years in the 80s where the poisoned fruit of Wahhabism from SA have ripened and the country started to become radicalised. That connection between honour and women’s sexual organs means that any act of a woman in my family or neighbourhood that shows her freedom of choice, would be considered a challenge to my honour and integrity. We have been spoon-fed that by so society from a very young age. That puts a responsibility on a man to try and make women sexually unappealing to other men. The reason behind this honour connection needs another comment. I do not wish to bore anyone with a very long comment but if anyone would like to know, I’ll reply. Long live freedom and down with barbarism

It is to reduce a woman’s personhood to a body and nothing more, an object. An object that is “traded” on her wedding. An object that must live in a position of submissiveness to the wills of men. Of course, this also extends to the husband’s entire family. Often times, the mother in law get’s a good workout of projecting all that she endured onto the daughter in law, whom is set in a position of the scapegoat, the other. Then you’ll see the entire family ganging up on her. She has no where to go, no voice to speak with. If she even dares, she’s met with silence at best and criticism, shame, guilt at worst. Wash, rinse and repeat every generation. This is just the tip of the iceberg, the surface matters. Underneath it all, it brews stark hierarchal social structure where men in lower positions must do exactly what the women do at home, he must submit and obey the person above him. He must do as he’s told even to the point of cognitive dissonance. That frustration gets bottled up and projected at home onto the wife. The daughters in the household are groomed into following and normalizing that lifestyle. In the end, they all lose. It’s a lose-lose proposition but everyone is too busy and blinded by the misery they’re producing themselves to see the fundamental problem. The key is in their own hands.

The problem is hypocrisy in the west. A while ago when I was active on Reddit, I joined the community of atheists and so I wrote an article about my detestation of Islam, having been born in Iran and raised with the doctrine of Islam. I was shocked when I was attacked by the moderator and got shadow-banned. Even on subreddits about Iran and those wanting freedom for Iran, it is warned that criticism of Islam is not tolerated. All the problems that Iran has and other Islamic countries have is because of Islam. What I would like to ask western people who protect Islam is this: how would they react if Christianity was enforced on them and leaving it would have them killed in the 21st century? We need all western atheists to be on the side of ex-Muslims, but a lot are not.

If enough women in Iran say no, what can any man do to stop them?

Very different situations. An unjust law in America, a country that is after all still a democracy, is due to the prejudices of a large portion of the population. So a new, more open-minded generation can overturn it without much of a fuss. Mandatory hijab has been unpopular in Iran since the 1980's. The Islamic Republic simply doesn't respond to the will of the people. 73% of Iranian women are already against mandatory hijab, and guess what, so are 71% of the men. So again, it's not the people against people kind of thing that you imagine it to be.

In Türkiye we have similar problems. We dont have death penalty but sometimes we have same bullying issue. People who they think muslim ( but its not) bullying nonmuslim people. With My poor English its hard to explain. Our country look like muslim but its not. Atatürk realize this sitution. He said "araps religion doesnt fit for turkish people." or something . Some of our writers explains it very well like İlhan Arsel, Turan Dursun. İlhan Arsel went to Amerika and write about why İslam like very barbaric and wrong . Turan Dursun assasined in Türkiye. He wrote about islam too. We have lots of atheist writers or youtubers. Some of them are dead. For example Aziz Nesin was atheist writer. He had hearth attack in 1993. His son Ahmet Nesin is journalist and lives in France. Ahmet is atheist too and doesnt like by turkish people because of his kurdish ideas. Actually i dont like his kurdish ideas too but he is good personality. His brothers Ali Nesin lives in Türkiye. Ali is mathematic profeesor in istanbul. They have orphanry and raising child. Doesnt teach religions to childreen. Ali is libertian or something like that. I dont agree some of Ali Nesin's idea too 😂😂😂 we have Celal Şengör who is Kemalist, just like me🤣😂😂 Celal was professor in Istanbul tecnical universty , he retired now. He is interested in geology, biology and history. You can easly contact with him. Talk about Atatürk with him. Lives in Istanbul. We have atheist youtubers too.
