I can tell you what is missing for development: I even made a scientific discovery about consciousness: All people do not notice that the head is always slightly tilted to the side of the leading hemisphere of the brain, and when the other hemisphere of the brain becomes dominant, the head changes the side tilt from right to left or vice versa. I noticed this when I invented a method for determining which hemisphere of the brain belongs to almost any opposite of any aspect, any field of science or aspect. I already know dozens of opposing differences that allow me to see how all types of sciences are connected by the fact that everywhere there is something that relates to the hemispheres of the brain. I can tell you a lot of new things that will allow you to win a Nobel Prize and become very useful.

The problem that Richard.. and the atheist movement.. has.. is focusing far too much on the Old Testament of Moses.. and avoiding the New Testament teachings.. that made the OT obsolete.. along with its OT god concept. It is this they should be focusing on if they want a meaningful debate.. My question for Richard is.. How come you do not know the OT.. along with its supernatural god concept.. was made obsolete? It would save a lot of time.. and pointless talking.. if only you pointed this out to people.. instead of telling us how bad the OT.. and its god concept.. is.. It would remove the foundation stone that organized religion has been supporting itself on for over 2000 years.. leaving them without any credibility.. while atheism is getting us nowhere.. Isn't that true? Atheists need to stop taking the Bible so literally.. thereby imitating the errors of the literal Christians.. (not all Christians are literal.. some are highly intelligent) The books of the Bible were written by poet philosophers.. mostly those who hated organized religion.. There is ample evidence to support this.. If the poet says.. my love is like a red red rose.. it would be foolish to say.. PROVE IT TO US.. if you get my drift.. When Jesus spoke of his Father.. he is speaking of the wise words of the former prophets.. who “fathered his spirit.”.. not a supernatural man in the sky. How can anyone believe such nonsense? Atheists are as guilty as the literal Christians are.. in this sense.. blindly believing.. with out first checking their assumptions are true.. To take a poet's metaphorical words only literally.. is a BIG MISTAKE! "Hence Jesus said to them: "Most truly I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but my Father does give you the true bread from heaven.” "Certainly, then, there occurs a setting aside of the proceeding commandment on account of its weakness and ineffectiveness.” ”For if the first covenant had been faultless. No place would have been sought for a second." “For if the code administering condemnation was glorious, much more does the administering of righteousness abound with glory.” “Moreover, if the code which administers death and which was engraved in letters in stones came about in a glory.. A glory that was to be DONE AWAY WITH.” "But their mental powers were dulled. For to this present day the same veil remains uplifted at the reading of the old covenant, because it is DONE AWAY WITH by means of Christ. In fact, down till today whenever Moses is read, a veil lies upon their hearts." "In his saying "a new covenant" He has made the former one OBSOLETE and growing old is near to vanishing away." Since Jesus.. and prophets.. who came before him.. made the testament that Moses reportedly had from God obsolete.. it follows that they did not believe in the existence of a supernatural being either.. so.. were they atheists? What is certain.. is they took down religions.. with their well considered words.. that both the literal Christians and atheists are ignoring.. We need to ask ourselves why we are allowing this to happen..? The New Testament artfully redefines the god concept.. Teaching God either exists.. or does not exist.. in human hearts and minds.. in the form of the Spirit of Loving kindness, Righteousness, Justice, Peace, Wisdom, Freedom and Truth.. the seven core human values that we could all believe in.. And.. if we ALL believed in these core human values.. we could change the way the world thinks.. idealistically.. However I was immediately banned on both Christian and atheist forums alike.. for saying this.. because they would rather continue believing in complete nonsense.. and avoid common sense. Will Richard delete me.. for pointing out what should be obvious..? Let's wait and see.. LET'S BE REALISTIC.. How Did Jesus Explain God.. ? "God is Spirit” Notice he never mentions a supernatural being.. Those who believe otherwise.. are deceiving themselves.. and others.. who believe them.. ''The fact that an opinion has been widely held is no evidence whatever that it is not utterly absurd; indeed in view of the silliness of the majority of mankind, a widely spread belief is more likely to be foolish than sensible. Man is a credulous animal, and must believe something; in the absence of good ground for belief, he will be satisfied with bad ones." - wrote Bertrand Russell "For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God; but not according to accurate knowledge." "Do you not know that you people are God's temple, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” "Now God IS the SPIRIT; and where the SPIRIT of God is, there is FREEDOM.” "And if you will certainly swear, 'AS GOD IS ALIVE IN TRUTH, IN JUSTICE, AND IN RIGHTEOUSNESS!' "He has also put his seal upon us and has given us the token of what is to come, that is, the SPIRIT IN OUR HEARTS." "Is it not written in your Law, `I said: "YOU ARE GODS?” .. asked Jesus.. quoting Psalms 82:5.. when his divinity was questioned by unbelievers.. also see John 10:34 "God is within you! YOU YOURSELF ARE THE CREATOR. If you find that place within you from which you brought this thing about, you will be able to live with it and affirm it, perhaps even enjoy it, as your life.” "Every myth is psychologically symbolic. Its narratives and images are to be read, therefore, not literally, but as metaphors. Half the people in the world think that the metaphors of their religious traditions, for example, are facts. And the other half contends that they are not facts at all. As a result we have people who consider themselves BELIEVERS because they accept metaphors as facts, and we have others who classify themselves as ATHEISTS because they think religious metaphors are lies.” "God is a metaphor for that which transcends all levels of intellectual thought. It's as simple as that.” - wrote Joseph Campbell "That deep emotional conviction of the presence of a Superior Reasoning Power, which is revealed in the incomprehensible universe, forms my idea of God." "The more I study science, the more I believe in God." - said Albert Einstein.. While Freeman Dyson added.. "Mind and intelligence are woven into the fabric of our universe in a way that altogether surpasses our understanding.” “Not only is the universe stranger than we imagine, it is stranger than we can imagine.” - Sir Arthur Eddington exclaimed… Isn’t it by means of MATHEMATICS.. that the evidence of the - PURE THOUGHT - that governs our universe.. is revealed..as fact.. ? “The Highest form of PURE THOUGHT is in mathematics.” - said Plato “I think that modern physics has definitely decided in favour of Plato. In fact the smallest units of matter ARE NOT PHYSICAL OBJECTS in the ordinary sense; they are forms, ideas which can be expressed unambiguously only in mathematical language.” - wrote Werner Heisenberg TO SUM UP... CONCERING THE ERROR OF TAKING METAPHORICAL LANGUAGE LITERALLY.. The Voice of Honest Indignation Is the Voice of God by William Blake “The prophets Isaiah & Ezekiel dined with me, and I asked them how they dared so roundly to assert that God spoke to them; and whether they did not think at the time that they would be misunderstood, and so be the cause of imposition. Isaiah answered: "I saw no God, nor heard any, `in a finite organical perception'; but my senses discovered the infinite in everything, and as I was then persuaded, and remained confirmed, that the voice on honest indignation is the voice of God, I cared not for the consequences but wrote.' Then I asked: `Does a firm persuasion that a thing is so, make it so? He replied: "All poets believe that it does, and in ages of imagination this firm persuasion moved mountains; but many are not capable of a firm persuasion of anything." -

Well science is about to predict and control things in the physical world that we want to predict and control. Where does the "truth" come into the picture? Yes, car engine works, that is true. What more "truth" is there to that? That science is truth? i.e. Science=truth, well, what experiment of science has its readings as "science is truth", maybe science is the "truth", you imagine the truth to be. My truth is in poetry and art and literature. It works in what I intend it to work for.

It makes me very sad, and worried, actually, that these young people can even weigh science vs religious beliefs as though they're equally valid, when it should be obvious that they're comparing actual knowledge about the world with ancient stories told by superstitious, ignorant men. Some of them seem actually frightened by the idea that their indoctrinated religious beliefs might not be true. It almost seems like a mental illness, an obsession. If course, they're not entirely to blame, since parents and teachers drill the nonsense into their heads, as fact, rather than legend, mythology, parable, etc., but some of us indoctrinated in that way were easily able to abandon "God" as easily as we abandoned Santa Claus, and for the same reasons. I wonder why it's so hard for some to simply question their beliefs and change them accordingly.

The irony is *Dawkins* peddles *delusion.* VAST multitudes seeking truth *fail to find* because they're easily *led astray* by worldly logic, sensuality, vain esoterism or specious mysticisms. *I know I was.* I'm an ex neo-vedantic (hindu roots) new ager. I used to be into so much "cosmic/spiritual" stuff: trance channelings, ancient wisdom, gnosticism, psychedelic drugs, hindu gurus and buddhist variants. I was illuminated by the *kundalini (serpent) spirit* then 8 years ago I got rightly enlightened by the *Holy Spirit* which proceeded to show me what a *fool* I was before..... Spirit led to the REAL *Yahusha/Jesus Christ* and everything changed - *Paradigm Shifted* ..... This is being *BORN AGAIN* and it's an ongoing surprise to me 😁 Spirituality is a *soul serious* business taken way too lightly by *far too many* ..... ..... the end-times are *dead ahead;* a time of tribulation is near. It escapes the notice of our *self-absorbed,* glamour-saturated world that we're in a spiritual WAR for souls. The immensity of *ignorance* is astonishing: supernal powers are BEDAZZLING the minds of the masses (Ephesians 6:12). We've inherited *ancient* SPIRITUAL *subversion* ......... *the Earth is fallen* ..... the holistic fields of nature are fallen state. *"Morphic Resonance"* is OUT of affinity with DIVINITY; *Death is all too familiar:* natural life hunts, KILLS and *feeds* on itself. Humanity is a spiritually *fallen race* highly prone to *deceit and delusion.* FRANKLY, we *need* a SAVIOUR and by Jesus Christ we have a GREAT ONE. As a new ager I couldn't believe (I was *damn sure* I knew better) but in the *Light of Spirit* Jesus really is the *Way, the truth and the Life* just like He said: no one comes to GOD except through Jesus, there's no other way (Matthew 7:13-14). Being a neo-vedantist I wasn't convinced, yet, turns out the Bible is Spirit breathed, written by men inspired by the *Holy Spirit.* Jesus is vividly portrayed and endorsed in the new testament, in fact he's apparent in the old testament too (Luke 24:27 & 44) and by *His LIGHT* we're allowed to *see* that and *know Him.* Any previously perceived discrepancies or contradictions are ironed out and the supernatural narrative flows most beautifully..... ....... the Bible is the Revelation of *Jesus Christ* (Isaiah 2:2-4; 9:6-7 & 45:23, Daniel 7:13-14, Matthew 28:18, Mark 14:61-62, Revelation 1:7-8 & 18, Rev 19:11-21)

There is Complexity and there is Simplicity. Then we have Complex Simplicity and Simple Complexity. A multicultural music guitarist such as myself simply avoids any complexity other than that of the classical guitar, a very simple instrument which is very complex to play unless you want to play simple music which gets a bit boring after a few days, just like this complex conversation which provides no simple answers to the complex phenomenon simply referred to as "Life". Imagine how all complex problem solvers could simply be great guitarists, no more wandering around the ever to remain complex mystery such as "Life and the Universe" but simply being the masters of a complex musical instrument, and then............ everyone would simply be happy. Cheers. P.S. Love Richard Dawkins BTW.

“Death is nothing to us. When we exist, death is not; and when death exists, we are not. All sensation and consciousness ends with death and therefore in death there is neither pleasure nor pain. The fear of death arises from the belief that in death, there is awareness.” ― Epicurus I'm pretty sure Dan Dennett would agree with this piece of wisdom from 2300 years ago. I'm 82 now born 145 days before Dan.

Wendy knows her stuff. She owned this one. Macroevolution, which is an animal changing into a completely different animal, is impossible. Absurdity. It’s never been observed. Science by definition are things we can observe, test and demonstrate. The Bible says the animals will bring forth after their kind. Dogs produce dogs, tigers produce tigers etc. Anything outside of that is not science. The Bible wins again….as usual. One Christian put it: “the Bible is the anvil that has worn out many hammers. It has stood the test of time”. Many people avoid God and the Bible because they don’t want accountability

That small part of YT actually worth watching. Two great thinkers on interesting tricky questions, I liked the subject 19:55 most and cited you in the Kialo argument map "What is God?" because one potential definition of God(s) could be aliens (and I don't know why people use words without defining what they mean): whether they could only be godlike or possibly actual God(s) was a question just waiting to be addressed by somebody notable explicitly. I think all possible ways should be addressed and next up could be the simulation hypothesis (maybe in another video?). I disagree that it's "[just] a semantic question" - semantic questions are questions about meaning, it couldn't be much more useful, and this needs to be addressed explicitly rather than just implicitly and it's good to do so before religious people do so. It's also great that Dawkins stood by his assertions about religion in culture and didn't give in or change subject just because some reasonable major/valid points have been raised by Rees and that he put up a bit of scrutiny against them. There's many further points Dawkins could have made such as that there's not one path/way of the Church not surviving - for example there could be popular ways people substitute whatever they got from religion, e.g. in terms of meaning, moral guidance, and motivation in their lives. The benefits have been greatly overstated and one could have ethics/philosophy as a major subject in schools (could you address that - the lack of it in many countries or as a default subject and the need for it - in another video?)

Great question at 58:52, cited his response in a structured arguments map on Kialo "What is God?" and "How did our Universe begin to exist?" (check them out) about why God is not a meaningful concept or word in the cosmological-metaphysical question how our universe came to be; it doesn't make sense to use the word God for that when it refers to so many things while there are better-fitting words that more clearly communicate what is meant and also aren't attributed with so many things that imply some sentient complex being.

Really love these brief-segment Q&A videos. Dawkins is one of the few great voices of science/rationality. *However* re UFOs (4:28): No, it's not unlikely that it's so spaced out that it's likely that none have arrived here. As being one the few popular in-depth science people I see how it's important to be skeptical and robust in assessments, but at the same time you need to apply some scrutiny to your assumptions and approach this question scientifically. Please do check the time it would take probes, maybe self-replicating ones, to come here. Well here it is: with today's spaceflight tech (0.06% speed of light) the entire galaxy would be traversable in <0.15 billion years, but according to studies solar sails could get up to 20% of the speed of light. No calculate how often that could have occurred in the time Earth exists (could be robots or stayed here ever since). We should *expect* them to be here. And they probably are. You can check some further Pro/Con reasons and sources in the arguments tree on UAP on Kialo. Would be great if you bring this up at another point. As for radio signals, they may get filtered or more likely we only searched for the wrong types or not long enough. Be solid on the UAP subject before religious fundamentalists are or they will basically capitalize on scientists being ignorant on it. Two minor notes: 8:37 would have been good to also mention 'less risky behavior' for the natural reason how the severity of pain developed. 21:40 anybody got that study about children's answers to why rocks are there? That would interesting and useful.

17:31 I'm surprised Dawkins didn't correct him here. Charles Darwin didn't "create the theory of evolution", which had been around for over a century before Darwin published 'On The Origin Of Species'. What he did was pioneer the concept of Natural Selection as the driving force behind biological evolution.
