No offense to other people who do videos on this series but I honestly think this is the best way to do a retrospective on this series (breaking it up by class instead of season)

Derek was implied to have been expelled in Season 8 after threatening Holly J’s life and bringing a noose to school. He was called into the principal’s office over the intercom and never seen again.

Peter is the most unlikable character in this whole series. You couldn't feel THAT much sympathy for him because he was always showing that he was a bad/stupid person again and again.

The only redeeming quality about Derek was that he tried to be nice to Liberty after she gave her baby up for adoption because he was adopted.

One thing I do like about the Derek/ Danny is that they started off similar and then soon split up based on maturity and HOW they matured. Danny started off a goof but then matured enough to get girls etc. (kinda like sav) and Danny fell in with Bruce and the like

I only just noticed this from rewatching, but Mia is actually in the same class as Holly J and Anya despite having most of her stories with the older classes.

The actress who played Darcy was cast in a 90210 spinoff, hence her random show departure.

I went to summer camp with this guy named Scotty and he kept telling me how he was auditioning for a show called Degrassi and even convinced me to watch it. One year later, he played Johnny DiMarco.

I still love Jane until this day and maybe it’s just because I was never a Spinner fan. I hate that she cheated but I just felt that the writers needed a loophole to make Emma (the whole reason why TNG exists, literally the main character) to end up with someone else and not keep her single. No one liked Kelly and Spinner was the only male from the first season left in the show for her to end up with.

Honestly this class got no development because they were barely around when the college storylines were going on so by the time they were the 'main' class no one cared about them so it was impossible to make storylines anyone cared about. It was just easier to make them disapear.

I love the degrassi videos. After you're done with all the classes you should rank them from worst-best. Also would love to see a video where you rank each season of degrassi the next generation.

I actually really like Jane and I even liked Jane and Spinner, but after some time they just got boring and also Jane’s character was ruined but it felt purposeful

I don't know if anyone mentioned this already but the actress playing Darcy left the show because she was hired as the lead on the 90210 reboot. Which worked out well for her because it was on the CW for years. And I think the "going to Kenya" thing tied into an actual Degrassi special where the actors from this class go to Kenya to build a school. Mind you, this aired a long time ago so it may not have been Kenya but they definitely when to a country in Africa.

I hope u keep doing this for every class. I really enjoyed the class that introduced the hockey team with Dallas and I also liked Adams class. When Claire became a main character it started getting good storylines again

Bruce was a WEIRD one because he shows up wayyyy later aswell being friends with Johnny. Thing is, I could actually explain ALL of these kids placements/ages and classes but it would make for a long comment. Basically, before lakehurst merged with Degrassi, Degrassi USED to be grade 6-12 then the school got too crammed Emma and Manny were 12/13 in the beginning of the series you vaguely see Darci through that time.

Thank you for sharing I loved depressing growing up but I definitely agree class of 2006/2007 were the best and who I think of when I think of Degrassi. I hope HBO max does this class is show justice. I’d love to see the class of 2006/2007 as adults with children of their own kinda of they did with Fuller House.

Can't thank you enough for doing this series. So many absurd points that when you break it down and say it out loud occurred so often in degrassi. And how often each issue was settled at the end of every ep for the most part became even more ridiculous when you begin to list it all.

I always thought that girl from the Vampire Diaries looked suspiciously similar to Mia. She changed her name and booked it to the states.

One thing I do want to correct is that Spinner did try to tell Jane that he didn't make into police schooling but Jane kept interrupting him and not letting him talk. Derek is a frustrating character because he had some human moments like when he was talking to Liberty about how he was adopted , when Perino bullied him and even when he felt remorse for how he betrayed Danny when he put the thong in his bag but after that episode he ended up being one of the worst characters in the series.

my favorite spinner relationship is when he was darcy i felt she changed him for the better, in a way helped him mature and her doing the pictures thing, felt out of character and was a desperate way to get them to break up

The class of 2008 of Degrassi it's pretty cool even though it does get confusing cuz this is the last class before they skip all the years and then in the next few seasons it becomes the class of 2011 I would have liked it better if they did all the seasons each school year like I did with the early early seasons but later on after that after they start doing half semesters at gets confusing and that's when they start skipping years of the classes

sadly other than Jimmy. This class has the biggest crossover characters.. miss opportunity for saying Darcy moved to Beverly Hills to be in 90210… Darcy and Mia sudden absence is just because they both got bigger roles

The class of 2008 was very much a transitionary class. Although I guess the fact that several of the actors ended up leaving the show prematurely to pursue better things like Nina Dobrev doing Vampire Diaries and Shanae Grimes with the 90210 reboot. It wasn’t as big. That’s what Seasons 8 and 9 are, transitionary. As it’s after the original cast leave, but before the newer characters really got comfortable in taking over.

I'm rewatching this show, and I'm at the part of season 8 where Mia is considering dropping out of school, and her mother gave her a talk about it being okay about not knowing what she wants, and she straight up listed careers that included "vampire hunter". Now if that isn't foreshadowing, then I don't know what is 😅 Joking aside, I do appreciate how her story is a commentary on the contributing factors for someone's decision to quit school, like lack of overall support for her being a parent, lack of direction, bullying, and low self-esteem that tends to get boosted by men in power. I'm actually surprised that she out of any character hasn't had a teacher- student relationship plot given how emotionally vulnerable she tended to be.

I think after season 7 and 8, Degrassi show went downhill. The wedding with Spinner and Emma was rushed and weird and should have not been part of the plot. I wish it was Emma and Sean that got married.

See I came in on Degrassi the tail end of 2006 class. But I came around spencer and jimmy's relationship as well as the whole Spinner, Jane, Holly J, and Duclan mess. I honestly was rooting for Jane and Spinner tbh, but I love this and then the following classes after. I plan to binge all degrassi from this class to current just to catch myself up from falling off from Ali's future storyline because she was one of my top favorites. But 2008 is really the class I started watching. Jane is my OG favorite (OG for me for my first full class of watching the show). Also as a kid thought her name was Jade lol. But anyways I love Jane and Spinner together even tho it was toxic on both ends and wish they still got together in the end after Manhattan but oh well lol. And I remember all about Johnny and Ali. But I love this class and actually plan to binge watch from this season (maybe 06 actually) to the current since I fell off right before Ali and Jenna went on a class trip to a different country with the future class after them (if my memory is correct lol) anyways yes I love this show and thank you for posting these videos

The class of 2008 didn’t resonate that well to me. There weren’t many alumni at the end, their graduation wasn’t that memorable, and overall they felt more like in common with 2007 or 2011 than their own class. I guess it would’ve helped better if we got rid of the college plots that were there just to keep the og cast relevant.
