How to check if your degree is recognized by Germany? This is the question many foreigners ask, for example, when planning to get a job seeker visa in Germany, an EU Blue Card in Germany or continue their education in Germany. It’s true that recognition of foreign qualifications (Anerkennung ausländischer Abschlüsse) is required for obtaining a German Blue Card and a job seeker visa in Germany. But is your degree valid in Germany? How do you find this out? Please watch our video to learn about diploma recognition in Germany.
In this video we’ll tell you about recognition of foreign qualifications in Germany (Anerkennung in Deutschland). The Central Office for Foreign Education (Zentralstelle für ausländisches Bildungswesen or ZAB) has developed a special portal for that: the Anabin databank. You may have heard about Anabin before when searching for information on diploma recognition in Germany. Anabin is a huge database containing information about foreign universities and diplomas where you can check if you degree is recognized in Germany (ZAB Anerkennung) and what German degree it is equivalent to. You can also learn how to get an official Statement of Comparability (Zeugnisbewertung). The Anabin databank is a great help to those applying for an EU Blue Card in Germany, continuing their education in Germany as well as in other cases.
But how to use Anabin? In our video you’ll find a detailed instruction on how to use the Anabin databank to check diploma recognition in Germany or generally if your university is recognized in Germany (Anabin H+). You’ll also see how you can request an official Statement of Comparability (ZAB Zeugnisbewertung). Hi. Thank you for the awesome video. I have a question. I have 3 years of Bachelor of science degree with H+ university. My degree falls in A3 category in Anabin data base but in the certificate, it shows both Conditionally comparable (Bedingt vergleichbar) and Corresponds (Entspricht)to Baccalaureate/Bachelor 3j. Now I am not sure if I need to apply for a Statement of Comparability or not. Please let me know if you know. Thank you in advance.

Hi. So my degree and institute are both listed at Anabin. My concern is, when I check my specific course, it does show up but there's a tab for "lending institute" which does not have my university listed there. What should I do in this case? Someone please respond

Hello, Thank you very much for your video. Recently I applied for Statement of Comparability in ZAB for reason that when I have been graduated the program was not accrediated. The fact is that in my home country there are some laws that the new programs because at that time my program was new in 2018 and I graduated in 2021. Due to Covid19 the process of accreditation finished in 2022. Of course regarding the laws of higher education in my country my university issued my diploma after the accreditation was finished but they only see to one website the year when the decision has been approved and the date that will finish the accreditain and they not even asked me for any proof in case the doubt for authenticy. What do you suggest me to do or anybody in my case. I have one Master Degree also which I have recently finished. That one fulfill their accreditation requirements. Do you think Master Degree will override my bachelor degree accreditaion?

Hello. I am graduating with an unrecognized diploma in Dubai (my diploma type/curriculum is not mentioned anywhere including ANABIN-DAAD-KMK-UNIASSIST ..... I will be attending a year in Studienkolleg and preparing myself for the FSP exam. I wanna ask you or anybody who has/had experience, what should I do for applying for a university. Hello, thank you for watching. Usually, if the university has the H+ status, it means that its degrees are recognized. However if the authority requires recognition of your specific degree, you'll need to check it. Also if the authority requires an official Statement of Comparability of your degree, you'll need to apply for it. The exact requirements should be checked with the authority.

@@NexusEuropeGmbH thank you very much for your response i appreciate it . to be more specific i have pre-approval from ZAV , and i am planning to submit blue card in the embassy soon , can the authority there accept the application if i only have the university recognized as H+ ? i found also the degree type is equivalent to Bakkalaureus/Bachelor 3j but the specific degree is not the list unfortunately

Hello, thank you for your comment. You should check the exact requirements with the diplomatic mission you'll be applying at. If there is an absolute requirement to provide a confirmation that your degree is recognized, it doesn't make much sense to apply without having such a confirmation. Unfortunately we can only assist with getting a confirmation for diplomas of recognized universities.

My university is marked h+ but the German Embassy still requires me to have a statement of comparability. Why is that so? I thought if it is h+ all degrees are recognized

Dear Maj, generally degrees of H+ universities are recognized, however the Embassy may request any document that they find necessary, so it is not uncommon. We also mention in our videos that authorities may request some additional documents as well if they think that they are required.

Hello, as explained in the video, the status “H+/-” means that some of the degrees of the chosen university might be recognized, but some aren’t, so you need to check your specific degree separately to make sure.
