Prime Time Deion Sanders was one of the most high profile athletes of his day who still maintains that relevance nearly 30 years later. But what gets drowned out by his public persona and Hall of Fame football career is a baseball career that only adds to his historic aura...

To complete side quests you have to be the Main Character of the story/game, I feel like of all people NEON DEION definitely has the potential to make that claim in terms of sports entertainment in the late 80’s early 90’s.

I'd still have to argue for Bo Jackson for that main character. Turning down the #1 overall pick in the NFL because that team fucked you out of your senior college year of baseball. And then still went on to crush it in both sports. Neon Deion is absolutely one of a kind, only Bo was Bo. And it actually just occurred to me that Dieon and Bo are actually just basically the opposite of each other in each sport if you think about it as high as I am right now.

Just take a moment to appreciate that had the Braves won the '92 World Series, it's very possible Sanders would've been named World Series MVP after batting .533, with a .588 OBP, and a 1.25 OPS, to go along with 4 runs, and 5 steals (0 caught) in just 4 games

Bo Jackson, contemporary of Deion Sanders, scored a touchdown in the NFL and hit 30 home runs in the same year. Also, he is the only person to play in the Pro Bowl and MLB all star game. Deion Sanders has the distinction of being the only person to play in the World Series and the Super Bowl.

Bo definitely, because of the Bo Knows commercials. Deion not as much, though he was probably even better than Bo at baseball. EDIT: Just checked their stats. They're both pretty weak, but Deion kinda just played baseball as a side-project, which makes it impressive that he had any success at all
@markzuckergecko621
@markzuckergecko621 Жыл бұрын
@@VidaBlue317 Deion wasn't nearly as good as Bo at baseball, it's not even contestable. No disrespect to Deion, but Bo was an All Star and legitimately one of the best players in baseball for several years. And the only thing that derailed him was an injury he suffered in the NFL. Deion was incredibly athletic, a good outfielder and baserunner, but really not a great hitter.
@VidaBlue317
@VidaBlue317 Жыл бұрын
@@markzuckergecko621 Bo Jackson wasn't even close to one of the best. He stuck out a TON and rarely walked. EDIT: Just look at his stats. We're all enamored with his wall run and his pure athletic freaskishness. But his actual stats were pretty bad. If those stats were attached to Joe Schmo, he'd be forgotten
@markzuckergecko621
@markzuckergecko621 Жыл бұрын
@@VidaBlue317 so what if he struck out a lot? Aaron Judge strikes out a lot too, does that mean he sucks? Bo's prime years in MLB were legit, the only thing him and Deion have in common in baseball is that they both also played football. Other than that, Deion isn't even in the same conversation.
@VidaBlue317
@VidaBlue317 Жыл бұрын
@@markzuckergecko621 They're definitely in the same conversation. Deion looked like a much more natural baseball player. Just look at old clips. Bo looks stiff and uncomfortable. He looks like a football player trying to play baseball. But Deion actually looks like a baseball player. His swing his smooth, and with practice I think he could have been good-to-great.

No one has ever combined such utterly mind-boggling athleticism with so much undeniable swagger and charisma. People throw around the quote "There's nothing he/she can't do" when talking about people who are great at what they do, but truly, inside and outside of sports, I can't imagine what Deion wouldn't have able to excel at.

1992 Deion was unstoppable. Whomped the Saints in the playoffs that January. Went on to have a 3.2 rWAR season in just 97 games and was arguably the team's best player in the world series. Then went on to make the pro bowl despite just playing 13 games by being a dominant DB *and* getting over 1000 return yards.

Bo is overrated as a baseball player. He had power and speed that's it. He struggled to hit over .240, didn't walk much, and struck out at close to a record pace for the time. And for as much as people rave a few of his defensive highlights, overall he was below average defensively (had a negative dWAR every season but one, and that was only 0.1)
