With this video, we delve more deeply into the metaphysical nature of Ideas for Deleuze, exposing their structure as a multiplicity and looking at some examples to understand them better. We also return to that concept of ‘vice-diction’ to see how Ideas actualise and discuss some of the key differences between Ideas and representation, before wrapping up with a short look at the role the different faculties play in Ideas.

I'm glad you did re-explain metaphysics here the way you did. Putting it in terms of broadening the scope to include how the physical and non-physical makes sense and not reducing one down to what's really real made it very clear. Without this sort of metaphyical understanding, one might think Deleuze is an idealist but that's not what he's getting at. Very cool. I've had a sense of this and have commented on previous videos and either what you've been trying finally clicked or this is how I should have been explaining it all along. So thank you. That definitely helped open me up a little bit here.

I'd also like to add another comment and just say that you're one of my favorite interpreters of Deleuze. I don't have any formal education in philosophy so when I first tried to read this many years ago I struggled but it filled me with excitement. So I've spent a long time finding different people to provide me with different senses of it and reread it ever so often. You've given so much to this book and I appreciate it a lot. The way in which you give each section so much respect and tie in all the different parts together, it's very nice. You're also very humble, yet firm (like on your metaphyical stance) and I appreciate that as well. If you plan to do another Deleuze book, Logic of Sense is a perfect sequel. It goes with Difference and Repetition. Maybe I've said this already but I'll mention it again in case I haven't. Difference and Repetition is like looking into the depth to sense the Idea. Logic of Sense is more like a journey that gives you a feeling of the surface of sense. Something like that. I would love if you followed up this book with that. It would be perfect!

Thanks a lot, Kyle. I really appreciate you saying that... and I'm honoured to join the ranks of your favourite Deleuze interpreters! You have mentioned _Logic of Sense_ before and you have convinced me to read it. It won't be the next series (I want to do a couple of short series' on Meillassoux and Brassier then hit MP's Visible and the Invisible), but there's a good chance I will get to it eventually.

So the Idea would be the virtual, the undeterminate that will be actualized. It is an undimensional space, a multiplicity. Whatever it is he is not talking about a concept, so he isn't an idealist...but all this still resonates with Plato for me. I can`t avoid it. The idea of Anaximander's apeiron also comes to mind...

What does Deleuze mean by "Elements"?

Elements are the virtual 'points' in an idea around which forces coalesce to incarnate them into realities so that the idea itself can be actualised. Thus, what an element is depends on the nature of the idea. In a biological 'idea', elements would be genes. In an atomic 'idea', elements would presumably be things like fundamental particles.
