I knew it was going to be Cayo arena. The D.R has so many places that you wouldn't imagine. As you said, tourists only know the all-inclusive. They are places in the south of the country that is breathtaking. The province of Barahona ( where I'm from) is out of this world.

Talking about mountains, Constanza and Jarabacoa are definitely worthwhile! Also, in Puerto Plata if you're very adventurous you can visit the "Charcos de Damajagua" which is a river in Puerto Plata with several "pools", but you need a tourist guide to take you and provide you the proper protection (helmets especially). In Jarabacoa you can do rafting, and there is a very famous restaurant called "Hamaca de Dios" (God's Hammock) which I recommend to visit if you can afford it. In Constanza, visit "Valle Nuevo" (New Valley).

I don’t think they should visit Valle Nuevo right now, they are literally running away from cold weather, it was -4 degrees celsius (25F) a few days ago, that’s nothing to Canadian winters but still far from what they’re experiencing now.

I am a long time subscriber and a faithful viewer of your posts. As a Canadian of Caribbean heritage who now lives in the United States(New Jersey), I honestly did not think I'd follow your many escapades after Covid and Nova Scotia. I became a regular viewer and subscriber then and, because my heart and deepest affections are in places Canadian, I was engrossed with the NS exploits. When you chose to go to the Caribbean I said, "meh..I'm probably done...been there done that..". But you're so good at what you do and with such gentle touch I remain hooked. A bravura show T and A. Good stuff!

@@DelightfulTravellers I am so glad, Anna, that I made your day. But then why would I not be drawn to you both? Truth be told, its only in smallest part the travelogue; plenty people do what you do, but not for me the way you do it. You are a lovely couple and embody every decent and kind thing about Canada and Canadians I first encountered and loved some nearly 46 years ago. This is why I watch: to see you be for me all that I love about my country and its wonderful people. Stay safe for there are hidden pitfalls everywhere. What of Omicron down there? Looks like smaller lockdowns here(in North America) might be on the horizon. Certainly Christmas gatherings are urged to be smaller, vaccinated or not.
