For anyone interested, here's sort of the story behind this animatic! This world, a part of the constellation of Orion, is a mainly desert world where there are two main religions... The Cathedrals of the Argillaceous (a.k.a. 'The Church'), and the Keepers of Amenthes (a.k.a. simply "the Keepers"). The Church (which worships clay as its own deity, and believes that all life originates from it), in order to try and spread their truth regarding their beliefs, began to speak about the Keepers as though they were cultists, a dangerous group. In reality, the Keepers' beliefs were centered around what we know as the Egyptian pantheon, and their drive and purpose is to guard the gates to the underworld, known as 'Amenthes' (hence their name). However, as the rumors from the Church began to spread, the public opinion of the Keepers began to shift; what started as a simple distaste turned into distrust, which became outspoken hatred (when walls around their lands were now being built), which escalated to attempted genocide. Groups of people, even with no affiliation to the Church, formed riots in order to pillage the Keepers' homes, torture and murder their people with no restraint. It was in one of these riots that Myriat, a Keeper, fled her village with her newly born baby in an attempt to spare him from the torture the rioters would bring. However, the rioters followed her, and in an act of mercy, she drowned her baby in a river so that he may at least die peacefully instead. As the number of Keepers dropped, the amount of people who were actually able to guard Amenthes became far and few, and it was with this lack of Keepers that gave Apophis, the serpent god of chaos, his chance to escape. If you know anything about Apophis, then you know his primary goal is to devour Ra, the Sun. However, as Apophis escaped his underworld prison, Ra was forewarned and chose to go into hiding in order to avoid conflict with the serpent god. To take his place, another god became a temporary and noticeably weaker sun. The place where Ra made impact was in a village, which was subsequently destroyed. One of its occupants, Herot, was able to escape in time as he was young and could run far enough to remain largely uninjured, while his older and slower mother could not. As Apophis was unable to achieve his goal of devouring Ra, he chose to stay in the overworld, wreaking havoc on all of the life that existed there. His mere presence in the overworld is enough to give its citizens impulsive and irrational thoughts, and enough energy to follow through with terrible actions. It was in this chaos that the Church locked the doors of all of their cathedrals, and attempted to wait out the devastation. Some injured people would seek aide and shelter, and those within the cathedrals would sometimes let them inside... others would not. One cathedral, the home of a young nun in practice (named Von), was one that was more generous. Yet, as their supplies and their food dwindled, some members of the Church would have to venture out into the rest of the world in order to bring something-- anything back. Most who left were never to return. Eventually, after years of existing this way, Von became older and it was now her turn to go out into the unknown. And thus begins her journey, which will soon become a quest to send Apophis back to the underworld, restore Ra to his skies, and bring peace to the world once more.

Okay, wow this is amazing- how is this so underrated?!

This was beautiful! The story is so interesting, and the designs are absolutely lovely. The frame of the exploding town with the backlit character? Chills. And the close up on the bright red eye was terrifying. You are amazing and underrated.

Is there really much I can say. For images not much further than sketches and some lineart, it was super impressive. Why? because it told a story. If you can tell a story with what resources you have, you've already succeeded. Deliver us as a song also really helped. It hails from a great film and its composition is nothing short of masterful. The way I see this animatic is the same way big studios show their draft concepts. When the characters have been animated on paper before recieving colour and FX. If only this could gain enough support to become a fully rendered production. Or not. Sometimes if something's beautiful as is, it's better left untouched.
