6 years after this review, this sells around $230 refurbished on Amazon right now (8 gb/256 core i5) and it is better than I expected! Amazingly fast, perfect size, backlight keyboard, came with Windows 10 Pro! Much much better than the HP Laptop I bought BRAND NEW that broke on me after only 3 months and it's 3x the price I get this Dell refurbished!! Very satisfied!!! I really have no issues on trackpad since I used a wireless mouse anyway. Definitely worth the money!

I should add that the jittery scrolling is actually caused by a feature that Dell has introduced but not perfected which provides "scrolling momentum". If you turn off the scroll momentum feature the computer will behave normally again.

A great review. I just recently was able to drop a bid on eBay for this particular laptop and I'm hoping that it lives up to everything the way you say it in your video. I won't mention the price but I will just say that even though it is refurbished, I think based on the amount of money that you said it costs new, I scored a great deal on what I think will be a great laptop for my daughter's use in school. 😎👍🏽

fingerprint scanner is faulty. mine was replaced by dell and since then it works perfectly ok without any issue

How do you think this laptop compares to the Lenovo ThinkPad T61 6459? I need to replace mine and have heard that this model is comparable to the ThinkPad. I'm looking for a PC that will work well with photography software like Photoshop.

Looks like a decent business laptop. I hope Dell send you the new xps-12-9250 two in one. I asked to review this but got pushed around PR agencies from the UK to Spain and nothing so far.

I'm very interested in buying the 7470, but while checking info on the web, I came across a few testimonies of people complaining about coil whine with the 7470 (I'm working in very quiet environment so silence is ultra important for me), have you heard about this possible problem with this machine ? Do you think it could be a widespread/common problem with the 7470 ? (Dell seems to have some history of coil whine). Because of that, I'm hesitating with the dell 5450 which of course is not as good as the 7470, but seems less affected by coil whine (I haven't seen anyone complaining about that). I'm also hesitating with the Lenovo TP E460 which seems good and affordable. Thanks !

How's the 4k screen? Are the pixels completely unseeable? 4k videos play fine without stutter? Is your OS experience smooth and fast? I mainly do Java coding, graphic design, and some minor video editing.

Hey I was curious how you can reset the nvram on here. My kid setup an admin password for the bios and I can't figure out a way passed it. if reset the cmos battery but I still can't boot into the OS and I don't have access to external USB drives so I can't reinstall the OS or repair. IDK I'm stuck, any suggestions would be very kindly appreciated thank you very much.

Hi Damir, I've been eyeing the new Dell E7470 for a while now. It fit my needs, but haven't bit the bullet. Especially because of the steep price. I happen to stumble upon a reseller selling the last generation of the Dell 7000 latitude serie, the E7450. It is an unused Dell E7450, with 256 Gb SSD and 1920x1080 IPS screen with 2-year warranty, for € 725. Main difference I found between the two is the 3 year warranty versus the 2 year warranty, the 54 cell (E7470) vs 40 cell battery and the price difference. Since you have reviewed and used both, what is the main selling point to buy the E7470 over the last year generation, the E7450? What makes the E7470 a better buy than the E7450 purely based on components, build-quality and longevity?

Too bad you didn't test the docking port. That is the feature that would turn this into a light business device instead of just another boring, overweight ultrabook. Unfortunately the dock does not work (there are persistent issues with video (flashing, limited resolution to 1440p), audio (headphone device disappears after a few hours, only comes back on reboot) and USB (devices need to be replugged to work); even charging stops working every once in a while (requires a full power down of both dock and laptop to fix)). They've recently released a docking update, which at least solved the daily crashes caused by the dock, if not the other problems. NFC doesn't seem to work either, and the fingerprint reader went from totally unreliable to dead weight in a few weeks. I've just seen an X1 Carbon review where the fingerprint login takes less than a second. On the Dell the best I ever saw was 6 seconds, but you can easily spend over 10 seconds waiting for it to finally give you the error message you deserve. I agree that the screen is nice (I have the full HD) and the keyboard is quite good for an ultrabook. If you turn off inertial scrolling in the touchpad preferences, even the touchpad is perfectly serviceable (I just wish there was a way to have a "Back" gesture like on Macs). The bottom touchpad buttons feel horrible (they wobble and also catch on something halfway down), but the upper ones feel fine. Audio quality and volume are also pretty good, the laptop is usable for video conferencing without additional hardware. I had no problems with battery life whatsoever. I got mine with Windows 10, and I'm having problems with sleep working (the laptop keeps waking up randomly), and the display scaling also tends to go crazy when docking and undocking: 1. the windows are resized and repositioned each time, a process which takes over a minute, 2. the window sizes end up random, sometime stretching across multiple screens, sometimes shrunk to the smallest size, showing just minimize, maximize and close buttons. Assembly quality is deplorable on mine, the display hinges don't line up with the gray strip on the cover, and the spacing between the two sides is wildly different. The front (top?) edge of the cover and the front edge of the bottom don't line up either when the laptop is closed. My advice to anyone contemplating this turd: ignore the docking port as it won't work anyway and choose a light ultrabook from a more reliable manufacturer like HP, Lenovo or Apple. They might even acknowledge to your complaints, or at least answer to them, unlike Dell.
