hello. I have the dell optiplex 7010 and i just today upgraded my CPU from an intel core i3 3240 to an intel core i5 3470. that is the 1st thing that I did before doing anything with my pc. now i am going to upgrade my ram from 8GB to 20GB as i am making it into a gaming PC. the ram that i would suggest that you get is this: Integral 8GB DDR3 RAM 1600MHz SDRAM Desktop/Computer PC3-12800 memory - this comes from amazon and the CPU that i recommend you get is the intel core i5 3470. - this also comes from amazon. i only recommend that you get this if you are on about using your pc for gaming. if not just upgrade your RAM and everything will be fine. if you want to change the CPU hers is a youtube link to a video that eplains how to change the CPU as to explain it would be hard. the links for the parts and everything are in the description of the video here is the link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ftWmZZySnNLQd3U.html hope this helps.

I've been researching this for a while now as I have the i3 3220 I bought for my son in summer 2020. It's an 8gb ram with a 500gb hdd. Now people tell me putting money at this relic is insane but I am at the conclusion I can get it to just about keep up for peanuts. First the I7 2600 (EBAY Used £20-30), same lga 1155 socket so compatible, 2nd extra 8gb 1600mhz ram (bios needs updating as default setting is 1333), 3rd a cheap 128gb SSD, again cheap. Now, I already bought a nvidia gt710 2gb shortly after the dell for £45 on amazon, although the price on these now seems to have doubled and they are looked down on even for budget, however, this allowed me hdmi connection with 1080 display plus an extra bump in ram. These cards offer low power usage with plug and play ability. No psu upgrades needed and overclockable. I am a complete noob to pcs and I have just done a little research and I believe this to be a hidden little machine. If any pc pros see any problems with my comment please respond. I am not a techy and I am trying to learn. So far as I know the upgrades to my system are compatible and are worth the effort.

Not to not most heat comes from the cpu and the hard drive he swapped the hard drive for a sad so yeah also it doesn’t heat up that much with out the upgrades

Very curious to know if the i5-3470 paired with 16gb of ram and gt 1030 2gb would be good for moderate gaming... Rust, Escape from Tarkov, etc...? Just plain old HDD for the moment, but next upgrade will be a SSD.

Depends on what type of cable your monitor have. As in this graphic card, there is VGA, DVI (I guess its DVI-D), and HDMI port. VGA is more common for older monitor. Do make sure you plug your monitor cable to the graphic card port, not the motherboard port one, or else it's no use to have the graphic card in the first place!

You installed the RAM wrong. You should have used the two dimm slots with white clips, so the 2nd and 4th from the left. Now you don't have dual channel (free performance boost).

@@w_i_k_i_d gtx 1050 or 1650 they aren’t extremely good but are just enough to play modern games at medium settings and expect good performance. They’re double slot instead of single slot so expect less room for air though.

@@loliseeker1216 it will bottleneck. Wont damage your PC but the graphics card cant perform at its highest potential and most like wont go above 1080p 60fps. You'll need a better CPU if you want those specs

@@nikkcox2880 it is imposibble since 3090 is a full size GPU and it wont fit in the sff case. The other factor is, the optiplex 7010 dont have any 6 pin pcie power connection let alone 3 of them. And the last reason is the processor, it is imposibble to have a good processor over a LGA 1155 motherboard and it will cause a massive bottleneck
