I used to use a Dell XPS 400 (2006-2018) as my daily driver for over 18 years. Over the years, I only upgraded the GPU, which was a passively cooled Nvidia 6800 that died once under warranty, and again in 2009, when I opted for a cheap middle of the road Nvidia 9500 GT; then the HDD (which still worked, slowly) to an SSD in 2014; and finally the RAM from 1GB to Windows XP's cap of 4GB in 2016, which extended the life of the computer for a final two years when support for Windows XP totally ended. In 2018, I bought a new XPS 8930, which I have now been using for the last 5 years. Needless to say, it is still my daily driver today.

Nice review. I have an XPS that is 10+ years old. A couple of years ago I update it to Windows 10 which is what I'm running now. And it runs great. And I have a 27" Dell monitor which does what it needs to do. With that being said, I decided it was time to upgrade a bit so I ordered basically this computer with 32GB's, 1TB HD. Honestly, I don't play any games, just web surfing, Netflix watching, hence I also purchased the Dell 27" 4K UHD Monitor which should make a good combo. Now I'll be able to watch my Netflix and KZfaq on a 4K UHD monitor! And is Silver, they both look very nice. Thanks for the review!

I have this computer and I am looking to upgrade my gpu from 3060 to a 3090. Do you know which third party gpu will fit this pc? Thanks in advance! I use mine for video editing and with davinci resolve I think the 3090 will be a big difference when editing in slog3 4k.

I agree, the proprietary-shaped components limit this machine.
@ComputerStuff
@ComputerStuff Жыл бұрын
It's a real shame. So many manufacturers are going to proprietary connectors which doesn't just limit serviceability to your average customer, but limits modding capabilities as well. Which is something an XPS should be able to do.

@@ComputerStuff That's why I stopped buying the HP mini towers in the 2000's. They were easy to buy but later not upgradeable in any way. I'm very happy with my Cyberpower PC. I've only switched the fans and upgraded SSD once.

I bought a dell xps 8700 for my first "gaming computer" it came with a gpu but it was like a gt730 and really didn't compute as far as gaming goes. I instantly plugged it into the gpu instead of integrated graphics cpu as the main monitor. and for some reason it was stuck on eject media in the task bar and it drove me so crazy i removed the sd readers from the case. thats the only way to get rid of it. besides that i liked the case. i rebuild from it. only salvaged the cpu. These look way nicer and have a different more gamer build inside.

I have a 10 year old XPS 8700 and was thinking of upgrading to the newest XPS but after noticing their PSUs are their own proprietary design it has turned me off to the idea!! I love every other feature of the XPS except that you can't add whatever PSU you wanted!! I would have just swapped in my current EVGA G3 650W because the new one I was looking at only comes with a 460W PSU!! Bummer as the price isn't too bad on the new XPS. They just don't have many options left for me to choose from. I love the XPS for it's size!! It fits where I need it to fit as I don't have a ton of space for a custom PC.

Sorry I dont understand what you mean. Are you saying you'd like to see someone hook up a 4.1 audio system to the XPS?
@timbacchus
@timbacchus Жыл бұрын
@@ComputerStuff Yes there is no instructions from Dell about how to do it I am guessing that when you plug into the phono type connecters that the PC has it will recognize them.

I believe the title is misleading. Dell launched XPS 8960 this year, and announced well in advance of this video. The one you show is not a "2023" model.

If you want to avoid bloatware on any OEM, I would suggest you install a new operating system as soon as you take the computer out of the box. Because, frankly, I don't trust OEM's installing an OS that I want to use.
