I just ordered a water cooler 13700, is it possible to upgrade to 14900k down the line or am I stuck with it forever

Thanks for the reviews, very informative! I recently tested a Dell Precision 3660 with a 13700K and the big tower cooler. I noticed that, under load, the CPU started throttling almost immediately. The CPU package power draw (seen in HwInfo64) settled around 190W after a few minutes. I am now looking to get the XPS 8960 with a 14900K but am not impressed with the water cooler. According to the Dell manual it is rated for 125W which means even more thermal throttling. And I also share your concerns around the lifetime of the pump. If only they had a 240mm water cooler (or even a 360mm)... I need the computer for C++ compilation so I regularly load the CPU to 100% for tens of minutes.

I ran about 175 rounds of benchmarks after I upgraded the 13700 to the i9 14900K in this XPS 8960 recently, with the pancake and the tower cooler and the pump. That video is probably coming out over this weekend. I 100% agree with you based on the result, the i9 needs a significantly better cooling option for this XPS. If I remove the front fan, looks like there is enough space for a 240mm water cooler however since you can`t just install any third-party coolers without different bolts, spacers, and washers and all that, I am not going to venture into that route.

Dang! I just bought a Dell Precision 3660 comes with i7-13700K cpu and liquid pump cooling. I decided to switch from advanced cooling to liquid pump cooling. I hope I had made the right decision on picking cpu cooling device @ the minutes.

I truly believe that there are no wrong options here. All have pros and cons and none of them are too far from the other. I will be back with the i914900K results, fi I have to guess, they will be very close just as we seen here.

@mcdope_badabing are you using water cooling on your Precision 3660 i7-13700K? If so, what is the idle temperature? I have the same system here, water cooler as well, and the "Core Temperatures" are 89C on average. Canada ~ 26 Celsius ambient.

@@joelcampos3073 my Dell Precision is 3660 i7-13700K. Its idle CPU temp was always around 28C - 30C. Could you let me know what of RAM did you install on your Precision 3660? I install 2*16Gb of Kingston DDR5 4800MHz. I wanted to install the 5600 MHz or 6000 MHz but people had serious issues.

I have this Dell XPS 8960 with the liquid CPU cooler. When the cooler comes on, it sound like water leaking inside the computer. I wondered if the cooling system needs more liquid (water?). Anyone have experience with this issue? The computer is a couple months old.

Hey, I would open a ticket with Dell support and let see what they think. I haven’t experienced anything like this with the XPS I had. Have you opened the side cover and looked around to see any sign of leakage?

I don’t . I have a usb Hyperx podcast mic connected to my cellphone. Audio and video are getting recorded in the same time trough my iPhone.

@@danielhoward4566 I dd not but ran about 250+ benchmarks. About 60% of that was done on the i9-14900K, video will be out by Wednesday. With the 14gen i9K CPU, the performance difference is 1% between the advanced tower cooler and the 125W liquid cooler. They are completely head-to-head no difference. between them.
