Delta's A220 is arguably the best airliner for domestic flying in the US. While I've reviewed the A220-300 before, the -100 is a much smaller plane, with only 109 seats. What makes this plane so great to fly on? Let's find out on this trip from Delta's new gates at O'Hare Terminal 5 to New York LaGuardia.
Round Trip airfare was $290. I was able to select preferred seats and get preferred boarding due to my travel agency booking.

Love the A220! Such an amazing airplane and the 2-3 layout is great. Legroom and seat width is always amazing. I'm going to be taking Delta's new first class onboard the Delta A321neo. Let's hope that is great.

FWIW, DL is starting to "test" Bluetooth connectivity on their new A321neos, but I think it's only in first class. Haven't experienced it yet, as I have yet to fly their A321neo, and even as a Platinum Medallion I am not paying for DL first class lololol. Thankfully my ANC headphones have an auxiliary port.

This aircraft has been a game changer, for sure. The airplane itself is great and I still remember flying on a brand new one from Denver, but I don’t like the result on the west coast. Delta Shuttle flights have gone away. Less frequency but “higher” service, really just mainline crew but the same amount of snacks. Eventually the frequency will come back, but I suspect the A220 appearing on schedules means a 2-1 trade for a Connection flight

The delta savory snack actually tastes very good and it seems to have very similar price to the biscuits. Although I barely fly delta, I do buy Korean air ticket from delta where you can somehow get some “ sky priority”

Most people who enjoy flying or do it leisurely don’t really care for the rewards and clubs necessarily. Every airline has delays but it’s a lot more behind the scenes that goes on that affects departure time so delays could be a multitude of reasons

You're right of course, the delays were due to weather further south and I've never had any loyalty on Delta myself. Still, I was just covering what I saw. There's plenty of airlines with systemic reliability issues (IE Air Canada, upcoming video about Silver) where I really lay into them.

Thanks! It was just the annual fees. I have a Venture X and a CSR (plus a bunch more). I got tired of the Amex coupon book every month. I get Priority Pass twice already (+restaurants with Chase...for now) and Plaza Premium with Venture X. If there were a Centurion lounge at ORD, I'd definitely keep it.

How do you know which seats are 32 and which are only 30? It doesn't tell you on the Delta website of course. Are most 30 on the a220-100?

Sadly Seatguru is no longer being updated by TripAdvisor, so I now use aerolopa. Per their page on the A220-100: Seat pitch: 32" (AB seats plus 13/14CDE) and 31" (16CDE to 29CDE)

I love flying. Flew Delta A220-100 Economy DFW to BOS on March 15, 2023. Hated it. I'm small & short and found it very cramped and uncomfortable. Delta sent a text very close to departure time stating that my flight would be delayed 29 minutes. Push back was an hour late. Will never fly in an A220-100 again and will probably avoid Delta as well.

Your the only person I have heard that doesn't love the A220, 1000s of reviews on this aircraft, all positive, Gee , guess that is why their order booked is filled for years to come

If you don’t like flying economy on Delta either don’t fly or only book first class. You’re not going to find a better economy product on any airline. And as long as your flight doesn’t get cancelled, a minor delay is not something the airline can control. Delta is the most on time and reliable airline in the US.

You can blame Airbus that Jetblue is still using E190s. Airbus has no desire to ramp up A220 production because they don't want to see the A220 family cannibalize the A319NEO and A320NEO, even though thr A319NEO is a lost cause. Airlines want an A220-500, but Airbus isn't budging. Ideally, what Airbus should do is consolidate A320NEO production to allow more A220 production, very similar to how Boeing is adding two more production lines for 737MAX at Everett after consolidating 787 production and discontinuing the 747.

Bingo! And it hurts my heart knowing they are throttling production of the best clean sheet aircraft in decades to keep a mediocre money maker going... Kinda like Boeing with the 737... Give it up! 3+3 will NEVER be popular with customers... 2+3 is a dream layout as is 2+2 if you're on an older Embraer which is my preferred back up ride because of this...

I’m not into the power seats. I like it but I’m not into it. I would take a cheaper ticket over power seats. I would charge my phone before the flight and have an external charge battery with me

That's fair, but remember these planes are also flying transcontinental routes. You watch a movie or try and use a work laptop on a 5 hours flight, and it's nice to not have a dead machine at the end. I also do travel with a portable battery bank, but it's definitely a "nice-to-have."

Delta certainly has it's problems but I still think it's far superior to the other US airlines.

Oh I definitely agree with you there, I'm just trying to be fair is all. I think some of the Delta fandom goes a bit far, especially with the negative changes to Skypessos.

Wrong, JetBlue also has 220’s. Delta copies off of JetBlue

I literally talk about the JetBlue a220, and say it will likely take the crown…and they didn’t have the a220 when I filmed this…

I would fly Delta again and possibly give my loyalty from American on to them but, they don’t give their status members lounge access anymore in short haul international flights. They want you to fly in Delta One or In Premium Select now to even be able to access them. Until the reverse that decision, I won’t be flying them anytime soon. Even when I do get the Amex Platinum Card, I won’t fly on Delta at all even if they have a superior product. Edit : I also wanted to see if you could just purchase a membership instead but now, you have to be a status member of theirs in order to even purchase lounge membership which is absolutely ridiculous Edit 2: Are you gonna talk about how Delta just changed their elite status to being more spending based now? Would be cool to hear your opinion. I’m going to be honest, being that I’m a new business owner and now going to be taking a lot of trips for business, personally, I kinda see it as a positive for once because I can just book a fully refundable J class fare tickets to Asia/Australia and get Diamond status for a couple years
