I enjoyed this. I have Gold status on American. I also have the credit card too through Barclays. It's not to hard to hit 40,000 points for that level of status. Like you, I like to have the earlier boarding. That's my main interest. I know there will be space in the overhead bin. I also like that I can get a seat closer to the front of the plane. A couple of things left out... at 40,000 miles and above you earn a $99 companion pass and you can earn miles through the survey program.

Awesome job and this was very well produced. Having watched this, it definitely reinforced my belief that quite a few AA elites would probably be better off with something like BA Silver or perhaps Gold status as non US oneworld sapphire and emerald members (anyone except AA or Alaska) get lounge access on AA and Alaska flights even on domestic flights regardless of cabin flown. For instance back when I was BA Silver, I flew AA economy from LAX to SFO but I still had access to the AA Flagship Lounge (rather than just the admiral's club) and I believe group 3 boarding. TLDR version: if you're someone who's not happy with AA's loyalty points system, perhaps consider getting status with a partner program and leveraging the alliance benefits as well as getting additional perks that even executive platinum holders don't get

Loved the montage! I feel like you'd be quite the guy to hang out over beers with while listening to your travel adventures on American and other airlines. After watching your videos on credit cards and points redemption, and the 5k sub Q&A, I spent several hours on google, and got myself a United Chase Card because that card worked best for me given where I live, and what I use credit cards for. I did some flying and I got a free flight and some discounts on other ones and I'm generally pretty happy. I haven't been chasing any of the United status because the credit card offers me the stuff I really care about, (free checked bag, free seat selection). I saw a well known local businessman at the gate of one of my flights get thanked for his status and head down the plane to board and then saw him in economy. My guess would be United probably monetizing first class just like American.

Clearly we all know that Alaska has the best elite perk of them all: Free chocolate for MVP Golds and above.

I have found out hub to hub flights, regardless of airline here in the US, there always is a lot of people requesting an upgrade on those. So because of that, I always purchase an upgrade, especially if it’s on a widebody. Being that I have flight benefits (both non rev and rev) on United, I don’t need airline status. I do value lounge access so that’s why you see me go internationally so often to Canada or Mexico rather than to say, Hawaii. I was thinking of investing in lounge access in the United Club because based on how much I travel, I can easily get my moneys worth after 5 times of using my access. Since I travel every month and also being that MSP has a UC, it makes sense for me to get it

I think a savvy non-rev can achieve more upgrades than a savvy Elite flyer. The lounges are off limits of course :)

Status and miles are only really valuable if you travel internationally, in business class, a lot. Then you get big amount of miles that grants you actual free flights. Everything else is pretty much worth nothing.

American really needs to rebrand their tiers. It's ridiculous to have three tiers with "Platinum" in the name.
