I'm reminded of the story where a guy was in the break room talking with a co-worker, venting about how his clothes washer broke and he couldn't afford a new one. Their manager happened to be passing by, overheard this, and commented that this is why you want to keep a few hundred dollars on hand for emergencies, and without missing a beat this guy locked eyes with him and said, "You know how much you're paying me. You know I don't have a few hundred dollars lying around." I guess they could see the whiplash as those two realities collided in the manager's mind for the first time.

I work at Walmart (first mistake I guess) and this exact shit just happened to us. We just went through inventory. A lot of people did overtime in preparation. Our store made at least 90 million last year but the shrink loss was nearly 3 million (not good). The CEO just got a 4 million bonus last year, while our bonus was sub-par. We just had a meeting with the store manager (who makes a hefty chunk of change) and he's all "this is not a number to be proud of. I want you all to stop looking at the wall and instead in the mirror. All of us make decisions that impact this number. I want you all to to understand why this is a bad number and how we can fix it." Literally standing up in front of minimum wage workers and telling them they suck and it's our fault that the multibillion dollar corp lost what is literally pocket change to them. Mind you, we spent the last 6 months ranting to him about ways we can slow shrink and cut losses. What did he do? Listen? Oh nooo that would make too much sense. He shrugged it off and said that we're wrong, even though we've seen those things happen first hand

Thank you for covering this. The idea that workers should have to give two weeks for example is laughable at best. Treat your employer the way they would treat you. They'd liquidate you over a single sick day so treat them the same way. I recently walked on Family Dollar management after being asked to step down to part time from full time on a non living wage for refusing to cover one shift even though I'd cover shifts once a week. I worked two jobs at the time to stay afloat and was expected to and had to cancel my better paying shifts several times after having my face ripped off on several occasions for my superior not being able to work their own shifts. I walked the next day. My mental health has never been better. Your low wage job will do everything in its power to trap you and extort your soul. Don't. Get. Trapped. Believe in yourself and find better. I understand not everyone can just up and leave. I walked with no money in my account and in the whole so I'm not trying to sound ignorant. You can do it if you work towards it. Stay focused, stay safe and stay well. Evolve. You deserve better.

Ah, the joys of at-will employment. On the bright side this goes both ways: if your employer can just fire you or let you go for no reason at any time, you can also leave at anytime, with or without two weeks notice. Only caveat is you can’t use the place as a reference or be rehired there but I’m going to assume if you left without notice that the place wasn’t worth working in anyways.

Good luck and hope you find something better. Work is not a gift the boss gives to you, it's a two way street. And if there's no respect from one side, there's no reason to keep working.

I ran into this shit the last time I went looking for a job. After desperately applying to all kinds of jobs that I know I'm more than qualified for, given my work experience and education, I ended up settling for a crappy, minimum wage retail job. Job itself was fine, if unfulfilling. And during Christmas, the hours were great. But, New Years rolls around, and I go from 30+ hours a week to 8, and the schedule changes every week, so I can't even realistically get a second job without there being schedule fuckery. So, I lay it out in plain terms, I need more hours to justify keeping this job. Their idea of fixing this was sending me all over the city to their various locations to pick up spot shifts that I rarely get more than a couple days' notice for, and often they are extremely far form home. I don't own a car, so traveling to these locations means either hours of bus riding, or expensive ubers. I don't honestly think my manager was being a jerk about it, I genuinely think she was trying her best, but corporate was not helping her out, and after 2 months, I just flat out refused to get dicked around. Now I'm back to working for my mother's business. It's alright, it practically goes without saying I'm treated better, and valued more, at a business owned by family. It's not what I want to do for a living, really, but the pay is alright. I just hate being tied to a job that's supplies 2 of our household incomes. I just feel trapped, because every time I try to leave, and go work somewhere else, the people there have no respect for me, and could not care less whether I stay or quit. Big companies aren't invested in people; their invested in man-hours. That's all they care about, and I feel that, every time I go job hunting.

Dude get on Medicaid, work a crappy job part time and enroll in college or trade school. Eff these companies and their policies. I hope that you prosper later in life and this will be a distant memory as a lesson. Honestly I stayed on the system off and on until I completed my education

What makes this boss even scummier is that it's very common in sales positions that if your team doesn't meet a certain sales goal you wont get a bonus so she is literally saying "hey dont worry about your bonus because if you dont hit this goal you won't be getting it anyways" this speech happens in almost every sales position sooner or later

Remember the CEO who took a massive pay cut so his employees could live comfortably and well while they worked at his company and saw a dramatic rise in retention? More of that please.

That last clip of the streamer was a roller coaster. It went from cringe, to kind of being worried about her mental health, to something weirdly inspiring.

It was weirdly inspiring but still a little cringe. I think she needs to seek some professional help; not that that's a bad thing, but she really seems to be in need. I've been down that dark road before and I don't like seeing people make that sort of personal issue a public one.

I've watched a lot of her and she's very self aware and savvy, she's also a voice actress so you can see where the dramatic speeches come from she's pretty cool and down to earth but pops off when inspired 😂
