Learned about Mr. Deming 40 yrs ago. Decided it is time to refresh his strategy for success. Yep, the trickle down. Nothing falls on the ceiling. Also learned valuable lessons from Peter Principle. Thanks for posting this.

Working on one of my assignments that focuses on the Deming Philosophy. Deming says "One needs to know how to create quality, quality is the ultimate aim." Much of organizations problems is looking at the problem without looking at the problem that created the problem. Everyone wants the quick fix but they don't focus within to better themselves and create buy in on the hard changes needed. Good information for any leader in any organization. My Leadership Philosophy while in Company Command was "Do what's right, Be Respectful, and Never stop improving." Realize your goals in your organization and prioritize on how to improve quality. "Provide leadership through purpose and direction with positive motivation to accomplish the mission."

A big problem is management doesn't want to blame themselves, but rather the worker, since they are lower to them.

@@RM-eu8gi Most certainly. In the UK the entire British ICE motor vehicle industry fell apart due to managerial incompetence. The same happened to the motor cycle industry. Triumph survives and prospers these days after being completely restarted. They will have to go electric to survive the next change. It appears that they are working on that very thing.

Edward deming... was a great man... he was a direct decent of John Deming and died in 1993...... in 1993 a John deming was born and he was reborn to restart to attempt to help the world... both Edward and now John share so many similarities but different in a way that the new John is still in pain but learning and trying to help everyone in the world............ Edward lived japan and how to run everything.... now John works as a Japanese hibachi chef in america... always angry that the management of every restraunt is so bad.... we have even been in the same many states same areas.... this life I don't follow education I am following my heart but do the same things

Let’s understand a true meaning of the concept of quality. The quality is about creating a business culture with a mission and passion to eliminate W-A-S-T-E! Leadership, business culture & elimination of waste = Quality. This mindset drives kindness, liveability, sustainability, customer centricity, smart cities, cyclic economy, curiosity, innovation, prevents poverty, etc. If you believe this, then learn all the tools and techniques - not just to get a certificate ie to know the “how” only, but to have a sense of direction, value cooperation, open mindedness, playfulness, patience, tenaciousness, and live with a smile in your heart. Outsmart arrogance and incompetence!

Genuine question - what are your thoughts on pairing Deming's philosophies with Six Sigma methods? Such as utilizing control charts and other statistical methods as a means to monitor process behavior and performance?

@@dannydawson701 NO. They are opposites. Every aspect of Six Sigma is worthless. 91 % of Six Sigma companies have trailed the S&P 500 (Qualpro survey). A long term study of hundreds of Six Sigma projects at Ford showed an average of 1 in 5 parts defective AFTER improvement for “successful” Six Sigma projects. Six Sigma's creator said: “Some claim that Six Sigma is nothing more than smoke and mirrors - a sales job for senior management and a snow job for the rest. Well they couldn't be more on target"

Like many others I'm sure I was originally introduced to Six Sigma, questioned the 1.5 shift among other things, and eventually settled on Donald Wheeler's work, SPC, etc. One point of confusion, though: on Dr Wheeler's site, he still uses the term 'six sigma'. What are your thoughts on that? Edit: I looked more and found you asked Dr Wheeler that same question! Makes sense now :) kzfaq.infomySjOMHiAc4?feature=share

@@dannydawson701 Dr Wheeler, calls Six Sigma “GOOFY” and the stuff of “the tooth fairy”.. He wrote his book on SS to try to educate the ignorant. I had many discussions with him about this. His "soft" approach doesn't work. The fools need a sledge hammer. My latest post exposing the SS scam has had 860,000 views!

I am completing my doctoral studies with my capstone project, "Total Quality Management Strategies to Sustain Business Beyond 5 Years" using the Deming 14 Points as my conceptual framework. Dr. Deming, considered as the father of quality management, is the internationally renowned consultant whose principles on management resulted in Japan's economic recovery from the ruins of WW 2; a great man with a good heart.

Im guessing this video footage is from the 1980's. No matter. W.E.Deming's 14 points are as relevant these days as they were then. It's actually a tonic to hear again. These days, you can still spot the entrenched "...but we've always done it like this..." types. I'd get them re-trained asap before they cause any or further company decay. As for me, I've been in several positions where I've been asked, "...are you not happy working here?" Or, "...I'm not sure you're suited to this company...", simply because I've made valid suggestions on improvements to processes and products. Several of those companies don't exist anymore. Coincidence? Incidentally, during the last week or two I have been heavily engaged in Point 9, because I am encouraging people to question the constraints imposed upon them by other relevant departments. We need to blur those inter-departmental lines so that people can work together better. Also, accurate information and communication. Really can't have too much of it. If people want to withold information to give them a false sense of security, I want them retrained asap. Secrecy is poison within a company.

I think that's why it's so important that TOP management is committed to constant improvement and is relaying that message to everyone. The problem in America is that in public companies, top management answers to shareholders who are focused in short term profits. As Deming mentioned in an early video, when he was speaking to Japan's top management in 1950, he was talking to 80% of the capitol. In America, convincing shareholders that they need to look beyond short term profits is almost impossible.

Now I know why growing up everything was made in Japan. Then when he came back here to get us up to speed we were to stupid to listen to him. Just kinda discovered him yesterday and immediately see how stupid the co I work for is. Everything is the workers fault where I work. They need to study this man! Love you Mr. Deming!

His principles are valid now days, his principles are so accurate and precise for quality improvement, I would say they are effective for todays quality desaseases. So bad management still Now days is not able to comprehend on this, they still keep quantity over quality, cost reduction at the expense of non improvement, relying still on visual inspection and blaming operator for flaws. 😔😔😔😔

Dr Deming passed away in Dec 1993. I had the privilege of working with him for 10 years at Ford Motor Company. He was a great man.

No wonder I have such a hard time hearing about this gentleman...for YEARS I've been trying to find him after seeing him on PBS but couldn't remember his name...bit his system is logical and puts the responsibility on management, leadership, which, in America, seems to be intent on doing as little as possible and wants to manage problems instead of creating systems and relationships that work. For example,If GM had adopted this in the '70s they would be on top of the world right now instead of a continuous bad joke.

Well, what looks strange for me in Deming's theory. In most organisations I've seen, these principals are not applied. There must be somthing wrong with them. Either they are very difficult to implement in real life, or they are not as good as they sound.

I think they're mostly deceptively simple sounding principles that are easy to forget when you're in the thick of it. It's very easy to become lax with training, explaining why things are, focusing on quality and improvement on every level.

I love Deming. But I hate the way his ideas are presented here. The professional narrator ruins everything. Deming's ideas should be presented by people who have implemented them in a company, and who have realized the expected benefits. Only that kind of person can communicate in a way that real people (not academics or management consultants) will understand.

We were just reading today’s WSJ article about the state of Boeing. June 12, 2024. If ever there was a company that should have a disciple of Deming, it is Boeing. Boeing is in enormous danger since it disregarded much of the 14 points of management. Don’t blame on the workers or on worker turnover. Boeing just doesn’t processes in place to assure quality products! They even sold off their manufacturing of fuselages. Ridiculous! No continuity of purpose! Of course the fools running the US government did not help by instituting unnecessary lockdowns all due to a virus. Viruses are the beginning of life, they will win.
