In this video, I give a demo and review my new Outland Fire Bowl. It's an LP gas fire pit with lava rocks to produce a fairly realistic little campfire. The model I got is 870, which they call the premium package. It includes an electric starter plus a metal storage lid and strap.
The unit is 19" wide and weighs in at around 24 lbs. Nice and compact! Overall we are most pleased with its performance and looking forward to using it this winter. If you sit close enough, it throws out a decent amount of warmth, and the flickering orange flames add to the camping ambiance.
Pros:
- Quality construction (powder coat and stainless steel)
- Aesthetically pleasing to look at
- Cools down quite quickly
- Easy to store & lightweight
- Fairly quiet (minimal gas hiss)
- Works off standard 20 lb LP gas cylinder
Cons:
- Not approved to cook over
- Manufacturer says must use lava rocks only
- Lave rock debris messy
- Occasional propane smell
- Burns through LP gas pretty quickly on high setting
Anne bought this for me at Canadian Tire for $180 Canadian (about $140 USD). You'll find them sold in many stores like Home Depot, Costco, Cabela's, and Amazon

I'm sure that you will like it. We have a different brand most are about the same and this will be our 6th winter using it with out any problems makes happy hour a little more comfortable even in AZ. We also use in in the summer when camping here in Oregon and have even roasted a marshmallow or two. One of the nice things is that in most places you can use when there are fire restriction in place.

We did an unboxing and set-up video of our Cypress Outland Firebowl toward the end of last year. We love it. There are places that we camp where campfires aren't allowed but our firebowl is fine. Plus not having to worry about packing and the weight of firewood is handy. We were in Quartzsite in January and it was nice to have a toasty fire. With the dampness of Santa Barbara it was very comfortable to sit around. We use it at home as well. It's fun having a backyard fire pit. Roasting marshmallows is a hit, plus us old folks can sit around the fire and tell "lies". Once the rocks in our firebowl heat up it throws a little less heat than a similar sized fire. I don't know if you've experienced this, but watch out not to turn on the propane cylinder too quickly. It has a safety valve that if tripped will limit flow and give a very low fire. Enjoy your new firebowl, and not having to play dodge the smoke. Safe travels.
@Aaron-P
@Aaron-P 3 жыл бұрын
Those are great for marshmallows and hot dogs! Just enough heat to do the job, not too much to be uncomfortably hot while you're up close & roasting them, and no smoke in your face. I've heard stories of burn bans so strict that even these type of fire rings are not permitted, so always good to check with the rangers if in doubt. 🤞🤞 Cheers!

i found a grill top on Amazon that fits perfectly under the lid and have added ''leg's'' wing nuted to firebowl lip, a twist and they are up and the grill rest's on top of the legs [ L brackets ] and now your cooking! Have used it this way for 4 years and works great1 Yes it will get stuff on the Lava rock, most off that turns to ash. I do clean it out once in a while and have switched to a more dense lava rock that is heavier and doesn't degrade like the stuff that comes with the Firebowl, love it!

Many years ago when campfire bans started becoming prevalent I picked one of these propane fires up...it was well over $300. Nice to see the price now down to a somewhat more real amount. My $300 one was manufactured in Port Alberni, one at a time I suspect. This one manufactured off shore and its half the cost. We teardrop so too large for us. I found one in the Pier Street used place a few years ago with cover and all that is small enough I can pack it up. Sure makes a camp evening a bit better when fire bans are in place.

Nice product. In S Ca it is good to have one of these because there are so many places you cannot have a real wood fire. It works great for s’mores. Tim - does the low pressure port on the RV have enough output pressure for the fire pit? Typically the RV regulator really reduces propane pressure and most cookers or firepits have a variable flow regulator at the tank to allow higher pressure and flow of propane. Just wondering...
@rubydually
@rubydually 2 жыл бұрын
@@jimbertrand2499 I personally don't own a portable fire pit (yet) but I have seen them hooked up to other RV's low pressure port where they seem to work fine. I have a portable grill and a 2 burner Camp Chef stove hooked up through a T with a 25 foot hose where I have no problems using the grill and one burner on the stove at the same time. In case you don't know already... you have to remove the regulator from the appliances you want to plug into the low pressure line. Otherwise you're regulating propane twice so it then won't work.

I bought and enjoyed mine for Arizona boondocking last winter. I found that I was unable to turn the flame lower than its lowest setting. I'm wondering if there is an adjustment somewhere on it? Also, regarding "lava rock," I've heard using the wrong type of rock can cause them to explode because of trapped airpockets. Obviously, real "lava rock" has already endured super high temperatures.
@LoveYourRV
@LoveYourRV 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I think maybe if it gets turned lower the air gas mixture becomes too low to make the flames, maybe doesn't burn all the propane properly. So likely a safety feature to stop people from running it too low, just a guess. I'd only buy rock that was meant for a gas BBQ, I'd imagine they would be safe - amzn.to/34MWu3j
