Gerrymandering should be made illegal. There are plenty of apolitical people who can draw districts fairly and evenly and permanently. There's no reason to allow any political party (any party) to draw their own districts. That's one of the crazy things about our republic that's trying to be democratic. Maybe we should become a real democracy. Toss out the antiquated "electoral-college" too.

Apropos of nothing and everything: there should be a law that anyone who is a State Secretary of State, (and thus they certify elections) must wait two years after leaving that Job before they can run for another Elected office. That way we wont have the spectre of a state sec. of state certifying their own election anymore.

Rachel's description of the successful Republican efforts to subvert our local and national elections through a systematic effort of gerrymandering was excellent and correct. Since the Senate seems content to sit on it's thumbs, I would like to see the incoming House grapple with the issues of election reform that became so painfully obvious in 2016 & 2018. We couldn't even get reliable results one month after the election. Many States had terrible problems with gerrymandered congressional districts, so they were less responsive to shifts in the will of the local people. People living in a totally different environment with a totally different set of problems were unable to work together in the cohesive town hall type meetings that helped identify local leaders and to solidify courses of action. So a secondary impact of the gerrymander, has been the stagnation of local political growth and development. The gerrymandering issue should be addressed and in effect in 2019, so that when the 2020 census is taken, we can correct many of our problems prior to the 2020 election. In addition, the 2018 election pointed out many problems throughout the States in assuring American citizens their Constitutional right to vote. We need some sort of National oversight committed to election security from foreign and domestic terrorism, voter suppression and ethical violations. Election law must now be codified with legal penalties or we will continue to see "the greater good" ignored or trampled on.

I took a few days off from reading, watching, or researching anything trump or republican related. It was nice.

I think it was in the mid fifties that the revolution in diazo printing changed from the old negative Blue print to the new auto positive blue line print. The term blue print is now simply a literary term. It makes great prose but with other advances in printing it is old as the hills.

@01:12... David Dennis is absolutely correct. Evidence, not opinion, is what counts in law. And they didn't have the evidence at that point (he didn't realise it at the time but he was fighting a case against 'the court of public opinion' - bravo), until the tape was revealed. He then, as the evidence dictated, acknowledged the truth of things. I would say that he took the brave and correct stance that without strong enough evidence, a case such as impeaching the President had to fail. It had to be done exactly correctly according to the law. Think of the consequences. If the case for impeachment had proceeded without the indisputable criminal evidence then legislation would have been put in pace by the GOP in 1975 to prevent the president from ever being impeached while in office. Scroll forward 43 years... If you thought Trump was a barely restrained despot now, what would he be like without any form of judicial oversight whatsoever? David Dennis (in that clip at least) was perfectly correct. And I think that the Democrats are waiting on that definitive smoking gun before they make their move on Trump. . . . IMHO
