I went to one of these to celebrate graduating high school. Nothing is quite as symbolic as watching the thing you hated getting up at the crack of dawn for getting destroyed before your very eyes. Beats any backyard graduation party!

Well, I'm still here and still watching with much pleasure, as I approach my 88th birthday, 10th March, 2024. Again. thanks to you all for this and appreciation of the courage and skill shown by these drivers. Mind you, I do wonder how they explain the bumps and scratches to mum and dad when they get home! January, 2024.

Volevo scrivere la stessa cosa. Gli Americani si divertono davvero con poco... e non nel senso positivo dell'espressione. Oltretutto sti derby spesso costituiscono uno spreco notevole di ottimi pezzi di ricambio, metalli di riciclo, motori, ecc

Bus never tried to pick up my kids up the mountain when it snowed. 200$ day, 20$ for that part of the ride, 50 000$ worth of bus, forget it, youre out of school, I never heard a complaint.

I was rooting for the "Lachute" bus that got beat up in the beginning, probably just felt bad for it. anyway, "That's a lot of damage." Edit: Also, I bet those firemen enjoyed the show, they probably got to see it for free while still getting paid.

Every year in Hamburg NY they have School Bus Demolition Derbies and the Fire Departments that provides services to the derbies are all Volunteer Departments.

I have never seen a bus body fold like that green one, before. I've rarely seen one peel off the frame that badly, either; that's dangerous to the driver. Usually the school buses are so tough and so slow that they last FOREVER in the arena.

I don't know to much about Quebec or what they use on there roads but in New York State they use salt on the roads during winter and wet salt and steel are not a good combination it can cause rust damage to the bottom of the car... The bus was probably scrapped by the bus company because of how bad the frame being rusted.

These busses don't look that old and appear to be in at least OK shape. How did they end up at a demo derby?

They're only allowed to be used for a certain amount of time and they cant legally use them even if they are mechanically sound and maintained regularly.

@@Beard4Canada Must be a local rule then, around here I've seen much older busses still in use by the public schools. Heck I've seen some private schools and summer camps have a few busses that are from the 1970's.
