Law of primacy. Getting proper 101 instruction, will learn proper habits from the start and make learning easier. The instructor won’t spend the class teaching to unlearn improper techniques/habits. I am glad your dad went in without “practicing.”

And Matt talking about firing a round when everyone has their hearing protection off is going to get him into trouble because some id10t is going to think he condones bad behavior like that and someone may get killed or hurt. When guns and live rounds are in play then it should be all business. Had he done that the range safety officer should have kicked him out. I would have told him to leave. This is an example of things happening like with Alec Baldwin on the movie set Rust. Its ok to have fun but people are watching this and some uneducated or youth may think its ok to behave this way and someone gets hurt. Its not a good look. Lots of people are watching and some are impressionable and some are not 2A friendly.

I commented on another thread about “the guy playing with his cell phone at 15:00 during instructions”. Some panty waste came back at me explaining to me that “that guy is Bill Goldberg, he was a WWE Wrestler and movie star and is worth $16 million”. So what. I have seen range officers kick people out of competition shoots for not paying attention to whats going on around them. Not just in the safety meeting. But during the competition while others were shooting.

haha - great minds think alike. I pulled my sp101 out of my holster and noticed my support hand was not supporting as much as I should be. Of course revolvers are different than pistols.

Something that helped me tremendously is running the holster in the front, not the side. I'd say the 2 o'clock position (roughly where my right pocket is). My arms naturally rest where my pockets are. When it comes to qualifications on a range (for LE), I'm a solid few seconds ahead of my counterparts running them on the side. This is what works for me ...I thought our range master was crazy when he told me to try it out because we're taught to carry our guns traditionally on the side, but once I made the switch, and got comfortable with it. Night and day difference.

Hit your local area indoor range, they usually have a variety of guns to try and some decent instructors, but FIRST, take a gun safety class so you have the basics. Then have fun!!

Wow that support hand talk just made me finally understand something. I thought it was just a stamina/muscle building thing that made my rapid fire inconsistent after only a little time shooting but it was actually my grip. I was squeezing too tight on my shooting hand and not enough on my support hand, as a result my trigger finger got tired and inconsistent very quickly.
