Yeah, the uncovered blast makes a fun boom, but what I like is that you can see the order and magnitude of the detonation. Kinda see what you're trying to do, in real time. Nice pop!

Sooo much drilling! :O My father was a sculpturer and worked with stone. I used to help him for knocking out the initial extra material so i don't get bored of sitting arround. Way smaller granite blocks were so much work! And if i messed up the whole block would've been scrapped. I fondly remember these moments though. I'm 40 now :)

Once again, hard granite is no match for a healthy dose of ANFO. BTW, I loved the view form the drone. One should not be outside during a granite rainstorm.

Excellent work Dave. I really liked the slit and slump of the 32mm plug for extra energy at the toe and with the primer above so that proper steady state VOD is achieved when the shock front reaches the bottom of the slumped plug.

When I was a kid, my father was hauling semi loads of A/Nitrate to newly opened mines in Central Queensland. On one occasion we went into Goonyella open cut.........which was a big mine. The truck would drive directly onto the bench to unload the 25kg bags of AN. The miners would unload the bags by hand and stack the correct number around each drill hole (about 1000kg) and move on. We were parked on the bench and I wandered over to the previously blasted section which just had enormous earthquake cracks all thru it..........and a sheer cliff edge that dropped off hundreds of feet. In the distance was their rather large Bucket-wheel excavator digging into the benches. I hear that later the Bucket-wheel broke in half and fell into the box cut LoL.

Wow - now that is a lot of 'stuff'' - not to mention a lot of deep drilling. That main blast was a BEAUTY and second equally satisfying - nicely charged with fly rock being surprisingly limited. Slo-mo as usual was just gorgeous. :)

First time I have witnessed Dave show and talk about preparing explosives, do more of that please, very interesting.

Man I love these uncovered shots! You really messed those rocks up but GOOD, no trouble there any more! You can really see the difference in the detonation velocity of the detcord compared to the ANFO between the two shots!

There is everything, an open blast whithout dirt on it, a cameraman to hold the camera and see what you do and cherry on the cake, you explain us the work in progress (just i didn't understand what was the white powder you put in the hole, you said "nitrate" that's it ?). So, you are priming with emulsion, with at least 5 cups of anfo on top. Do you ever ad a little extra liquid zing to the charge make the charge faster., , more of a shattering than the anfo throw effect.......such is done with supercapping??.
