Urokodaki wears a mask because his face was too kind and he wasn’t taken seriously as a demon slayer. Haganezuka wears a mask related to a mythical entity/god of forging, but also because nichirin swordsmiths are critical to the operation of the Demon Slayer Corps and use masks to protect their anonymity.

The swordsmith (Haganezuka) is a man of high passion and takes his work verryyy seriously... The windchimes on his hat are there to help calm him down 😂 He treats each sword he makes kind of like a child... if you mess with or kill his child, you can bet he will hunt that 'mis-user' down.

You'll begin to see that most demons have some kind of ability linked to their desires. In this episode, the green demon was deeply afraid of being alone, and always held his brothers hand to comfort him. So his ability manifested as a bunch of hands all over his body holding him so he would never feel alone. Really really sad when you think about it. Most demons forget who they were when they were humans, only having their past lives coming back to them as they are dying. Just something to keep in mind!

Haganesuka's (blacksmith masked guy) mask comes from a certain Shinto God of Fire, Hyotoko (literally "fire man"). His mouth is shaped like that because that's how you blow fire into an oven or forge. With time, people also thought the mask looked funny and associated it to comedy. That's why Tanjiro calls it "clown mask".

The characters are using actual Japanese language and wearing traditional based Japanese outfits of the era. It’s ok to find them intriguing and surprising but it’ll be a little more respectful to the culture not to actually laugh at them.
