Sarah is right.... you dont get it. Nobody is asking for money, they are asking Denmark (the State/ Government not you) to acknowledge the damage that was done in the years 1671-1917. I am from the VI, I understand the idea of the Reparations, But, if you seek from Denmark, why not also from Africa? Not, every man, woman or child was captured, they were also SOLD by my chief or war lords for trinkets. If, this is a true Reparation, this should also be explored, this from those that sold off there people. There were many slaves of many races, those that was shanghai off the streets and drugged only to find themselves on ships headed to unknown destinations. That children was obliged to go to school when under Denmark (changed under the US) and also today put money in restoring cultural heritage sites in cooperation with local businesses = creating local jobs. It sounds like you are saying the people of that island should just forgive and forget! If Denmark gained ANYTHING at all from the work of Slaves from the Virgin Islands yes they should consider repaying what they owe for that labor and hardship. And if a monetary value can't put on it (which would be hard considering we would never know the full impact and how things would be if Denmark didn't steal people from VI) then i think "helping" get the Virgin Islands on track at least to where Denmark is would suffice. I am a dane, and i am not proud off what, my people did to the africans when we koloniced the virgin islands, and we in Denmark, has a responsabellity to pay some amends back to the african people with aid, so that the africans can come back to their kultur, commuties, countries. 1) There is no doubt, that slavery as such and the fact that Denmark had slaves on the now US Virgin Islands is an atrocity. But this have nothing to do with it. Its a about people on the Virgin Islands - that might/might not - have ancestors that were slaves, to want Denmark and its population to pay money as some sort of a compensation. Yet none have anything to do with it.
