Bergkamp. That rare combination of talent, class, technique, speed, strength and humility. He had the ability to think 4 or 5 steps ahead and execute exactly what he had in mind. We hardly see talent like this these days anymore unfortunately. Especially in the dutch Eredivisie. Oh, the good ol’ days.

His style of play was simplistic because he wasn't that pacey, his dribbling wasn't great and he rarely blasted the ball in the way players like Gerrard could. Bergkamp as a result made his game about delicate passing, close control to turn away from defenders and precise, close range finishing and intelligent lobs. Very unique and unselfish player who preferred to provide the assist than to score the goal himself despite playing as a striker most of the time. Better than Henry imo.

Same! And even more appreciative of it now realizing that that goal was *no* accident, that every skill he combined to make that goal happen (his first touch out of the air, his ability to turn defenders, and his ability to find the back post even with little to no angle) he did *regularly* and often *combined* two or all three together to create *dozens* of masterpieces, and that it was only a matter of time before he created one on the grandest stage of all! So great to find out that that goal was the ultimate payoff of an entire career of brilliance!

@mazdakmina94932 жыл бұрын
I had to come back and watch this again after seeing people talking about his goal on the Premier League goals of the Year video on the NBC Sports website (where they showed every goal that won Goal of the Year in every Premier League season). Simply put: nearly all of us who were too young to remember him playing likely know him from seeing that legendary World Cup goal against Argentina. But this video makes it obvious that that goal was *no* accident! As you can see from this video, he had perhaps the greatest first touch out of the air of *any* player in history, he was *incredible* at turning defenders, and he was *deadly* at finding that far post (even when there was seemingly *no angle at all* to do so), and he would often combine two or even all three of those skills at once *so regularly* that it was only a matter of time before that happened on the world's greatest stage! Everyone should watch this video (and/or send it to their friends who likely have only seen that goal but probably don't know how that goal happened)! Definitely makes it much more incredible to watch that goal after realizing that it was the final payoff for an entire career of hard work and perfecting so many brilliant and unique skills!

@EIRW1Z4 жыл бұрын
@@westhamaremassive8099 Yeah, I totally understand. Ronaldo and Messi care more about being great and money is nothing to them. Most players just chase the money. There are 2 perfect examples and they've both played for Arsenal: Alexis Sanchez and Ozil.When we were paying them 150k a week they had the motivation to be great players, as soon as they signed contracts for 350k+ they've been rubbish. But why should they try, they are getting paid a fortune and will continue to because these contracts are guaranteed. I hate how money has turned the game this way, it was much more exciting back in the late 90's and early 2000's.

He actually taught Henry his style, if you look closely and compare their two styles of play, it's basically the same. So Dennis was master of the student teaching Henry basics of the first touch and being one with the ball. He taught him the concept of time in football, which gave Henry even more dominance on the pitch because of his lethal combination of pace control and speed. Dennis Bergkamp was a wizard genius on the pitch and even just by watching him play you could actually learn out of it so much.

Remember everyone saying "what a goal" 😮. I was so pissed off after that game tho, even tho it ended 2-2 it felt like a loss. We were 2-0 up in first half, Barnes scored a blinding free kick in second minute, then Platt made it 2, then Berkamp scored that worldie in the second half, then Des Walker gave away a stupid penalty by pulling Overmars's shirt in the 85th minute, Van Vossen scored the penalty... In 2007, he was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame, the first and so far only Dutch player ever to receive such honour.
