Bergkamp didn't lack form at Inter. Inter lacked tactical vision. It's basically asking Gandalf to make balloon animals.

I think you're absolutely right he wasn't going to be effective as a main striker in a 4-3-3 and they never saw that but what was Inter's loss was Arsenal's gain.

mind you, Inter won the UEFA-cup with Bergkamp en Jonk scoring in almost every round including the final. there's a lot of players or clubs that never once won an European Cup. I remember Dennis' striking partner Balboa being very egoistic and negative.

I was always jealous as a Liverpool fan that he was an Arsenal player. Absolutely fabulous footballer and a joy to watch. That goal against Newcastle, to this day, is still my favourite ever goal in PL history. The temerity to even think about doing it. The speed of thought, the touch to take the pace off of a fast ball and to cushion it, set it up with perfect backspin to sit perfectly for him to spin 180 degrees, blind and in the opposite direction, run onto and then open up the body to coolly slot it in is pure magic.

This man was a genius with the ball. The touch of a maestro and so, so intelligent. He scored my favourite goal of all time against Argentina. The control, touch to take it away from the defender and then finally smash it beyond the keeper. Watching that live, he just did it all before your brain could compute what he'd done. And then you were just left flabbergasted. Should also be pointed out, he was terrified of flying and this led to him missing many European nights with Arsenal. A tragedy for any football lover.

Been a Manu fan over 25 years. My God do I miss watching Bergkamp play. Wish he signed for Manu instead of Arsenal. How did we miss him?
