The Denon PMA-A110 Integrated amplifier is part of Denon's 110th Anniversary products built in limited production at their factory in Shirakawa, Japan. It undergoes an extended quality assurance process prior to delivery and in our unboxing video its clear this product is built to a very high standard. Rated at 80wpc x 2 into 8 ohms and 160wpc x 2 into 4 ohms, this baby packs a bigger punch than it's power rating suggests. Tipping the scale at 55lbs, this Denon integrated amp is a beast thanks to dual E-core transformers, dual heatsinks and a large capacitor bank. The Denon PMA-A110 also sports a top notch DAC with qaud differential 1794 Burr Brown DACs capable of supporting 192/24 PCM and native DSD. This unboxing overview video touches on the capabilities of this product to assess it's ability to be a true audiophile integrated amplifier. We will be following up shortly on comprehensive bench tests as well. This is a product any audiophile should check out if you're on the market for a high performance 2CH integrated amplifier with built in high quality DAC and phono stage.

Gene, thanks for going over the amp power rating issue. You reach a lot of people and putting that info out there will be e big help. As a mostly 2 channel listener, my favorite integrated is the Ayre AX-7. A close 2nd is the Creek 5350SE. The Creek couldn't match the Ayre for power and sound quality, but it had more features and was just fun to listen to.

Those that doubts its power needs to try it, i had denon pma 2500ne home for a couple of weeks, yes its only rated at 80 Watts into 8 ohm, but its a beast, at the time i run 683 s2 that are known for being power hungry, and boy the denon delivered, from low to high volume, it could play very loud louder than your ears are comfortable with, in my listen place 2 meters from speakers i measured 90 db spl and the amp handle that with ease, i did get Hegel h190 in the end but i could live with both easily,

I still listen to fm radio today with the ONKYO DAB / FM TUNER T-4030. And I can assure you that it plays better than my vintage cd-player (teac cd-p4500)that I have since 1993 !! I am so happy with the tuner, I am looking for for a second same one. My favorite amplifier is the Yamaha A-S 2200.Of course i'm in two channel.Also i don't stream (very low quality and i like physical media).I still love to buy new cd's.

Hi Kumaran, I’m thinking about buying the PMA-2500NE but I’m wondering if you have any issues with the volume control? I recently purchased the PMA-A110 but they are now using a new “electronic volume control” that is not very fun to use because when you hit up or down on the remote control, it makes big jumps rather than fine adjustments. Would love to hear about your experiences wit the 2500NE!
@kumarangovender765
@kumarangovender765 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, yes you hit the nail on the head. My one and only complaint is exactly that, increasing the volume one click with the remote does produce a "higher than expected" bump in the output level. For me, I can live with this, everything else about the 2500 is brilliant, loads of clean stable power.

My currently integrated is Bryston B-60 which I've had for over 20 years. I want the DVD-9000 tank for giggles. Thing weighs more than some AVRs today! The PMA-A110 looks tasty. I am not sure about the $3500 plus dollar pricing though. I really want to get more data. Gene actually my favorite integrated amp is also a Denon but it's from a different era circa 1980s . It's a PMA -757 which also is rated at 80 w/ch rms and includes circuitry which Denon called "Real Time Audio Technology" to handle the new at the time digital CD technology. As matter of fact this was produced when CDs first came out and the CD input is labeled DAD (Digital Audio Disc)! Ive owned many integrated amps but for one reason I keep this one around ..its magical sound...a real sleeper and still very affordable in the used market. Also has a MC input that matches my DL-103R cartridge perfectly!

Hey Gene, great unboxing of what looks like a very nice integrated! My favorite integrated is the Marantz PM-11s3! Question if you could respond, you’re not really saying the Denon PMA-A110 is a better, more musical, more powerful integrated than the PM-11s3? And also you know that Marantz did not put a DAC into the PM-11s3 for the same reason why they didn’t put one in the new PM-10... Marantz reference wants to keep their integrateds pure analog to keep them as close to separates as possible, keeping them as musical as possible! Marantz does offer a great DAC though, it’s in their SA-11s3/SA-10 keeping it away from the amp and keeping everything as clean as possible Thanks again for another great vid on another very cool piece of HIFI kit!!!

i was thinking about heat dissipation and a lot of class d amps now have more power capabilities than heat dissipation, often put in small chassis. why do they not use copper heat pipes(liquid filled and sintered) like in laptops, the can be bended into any shape and remove heat passively from the hot spots and to the metal walls of the chassis.

Gene, Thanks for reviewing the Denon PMA-A110. I have been a fan of the integrated amplifier for decades for the exact same reasons you state in your review. I have always been impressed with the ONKYO integrated amplifiers since they had the Integra series long before it became a separate line. I own a ONKYO A9070 (2019 version, I know this has been discontinued by ONKYO) and often wondered what you think of this product as it is built quite well. Also I have had the privilege to set up a system with a Parasound Halo Hint 6 as the heart of the set up. This is also a fine product with a price more in line with the Denon. Have you had any experience with either of these Integrated amplifiers and if so what are your thoughts on them? Since my audio room is small (12 x 14 feet) and my speakers are too big for the room (paradigm signature s8) so some sort of room correction will help bass notes. Thanks!

When I first saw the Denon PMA-10 years ago, I instantly fell in love with the gentle yet authoritative knob presence of it's spartan silver esthetics. Something about it just jumped off the page, leaving other receivers feeling cheap and passionless. Having seen it only in photos, I have since had pause about it's side angle appeal. I'm curious what your feelings are about the recurve of the upper lip. Where the top-line of the faceplate curves back to vertical after having bulged in the center around the knobs. Theres something about this review which feels truly exciting.

@@davidmorgen4558 I’m mostly familiar with their receivers that had the ring for the volume knob. I didn’t take to that style, although it is quite striking, and has some very scifi vibes. The silver of the Denon PMA rings a classic Japanese vibe, which I dig, perhaps nostalgically from some old Sony’s and Pioneers I had.

Why Burr-Brown (Texas Instruments) and not AKM like in their AVRs? Is it due to the factory fire? If so, still an odd decision to go with them over ESS 3098 in mono mode. Not saying TI isn’t good (it is), but usually it’s AKM & ESS. Maybe if they have a contract with AKM, they wouldn’t want Denon using ESS, but that’s if I put my tin hat on.

Burr Brown are still some of the best sounding DAC's especially these and in quad differential configuration. AKM parts are hard to get now so this was a good choice for this product.

The best integrated I ever heard was the Perreaux Eloquence 255. Great gobs of power, mosfets, gorgeous casework. I am currently running Emm Labs Pre and Pass X150.8 and the Perreaux holds its own. The Perreaux easily bested my previous Yamaha and Anthem integrated amps. The Perreaux was biased to about 13 watts Class A and while warm to the touch, did not get as hot to the touch as my Pass. Pretty much an endgame amplifier. It got a rave review in one of the Brit mags - HiFi News or HiFi Choice. Downsides: only two. Pricey and the display was not the prettiest.

Seems like a remarkably special piece of equipment. What I don't understand is why so many of these exquisite, top shelf, hi performance integrated amps don't feature a sub-woofer output. Do they expect that everyone who buys these components will always prefer those huge full range speakers with the big 15" woofers (that not always fit elegantly in an average sized living room)?
@Audioholics
@Audioholics 3 жыл бұрын
Agreed, they messed up by not including a sub out or 2CH preamp outs.
@PedroLCogoy
@PedroLCogoy 3 жыл бұрын
@@Audioholics , you mentioned preamp outputs and I have a doubt you could help me with. Unless I'm mistaken those outputs will send a full range non-amplified signal to the sub (subs). I guess the sub will most likely have a crossover that can be set at say, 70hz for instance. Here is my doubt: even with the crossover set on the sub (connected to preamp outs) the integrated amp's speaker outputs will still be sending full range signals to the speakers. If the main speakers reach down to 40hz there will be a unnecessary overlap range of low frequencies between the main speakers and the sub... or am I wrong?

With only 2 capacitors, they're definitely sharing the same power trails (+&- 65Vish presumable), so why have 2x transformers unless they're both in tandem and rectified separately, or, they both are a single leg instead of the traditional center tap single transformer.

To be perfect, this amplifier should have solid aluminium machined buttons. This wouldn't have made much difference to its price, but the grip isn't as good as on other devices in this range price. You might advise me to buy the PMA-SX11 in this case, but it lacks a DAC and bass and treble controls. For Denon's 120th anniversary, perhaps ? 🤔

Companies know audiophiles know that Amos should double down into 4ohm, so it is not rare for them to under-report 8ohm to achieve this in the specs department. Kinda silly. I normally only look at 4ohm wattage. Most speakers are not 8ohm (even ones rated as such, at least going by 80% above tuning), plus you have phase to worry about, so in the 80Hz-500Hz region (or there abouts) most amps will see a 4ohm load or even lower, the new LS50 Meta has an EPDR of 1.7ohm at 140Hz, when people say you need a good amp for them they aren’t kidding.
