This is a very good rundown but one correction. The Marantz Amp 10 does 200w but only with 2 channels into an 8 ohm load. There is no way it can feed 200w into all 16 channels driven. This is conjecture but I bet the Amp 10’s all channels driven power is very comparable to the Denon A1’s 15 full channels driven power (it’s rated at 150w X 2 channels 8 ohm. So more power is not a good reason to spend a lot more on the Marantz separates than the Denon single box. Lastly, Denon/Marantz has a well deserved reputation for underpowered all channels driven ratings (which is partly why they had to issue their 7 channels guarantee I assume). I bet both the A1H and Amp 10 likely output around 50w or so with all channels driven.

It was interesting to hear the 70-lb, 15.4 channel Denon A1H being described as an "entry-level" model (perhaps compared to the Marantz AV10/AMP10 set-up?) As for the similarities, I suspect that the Denon and the Marantz use the same/similar boards, hence the identical/parallel placement/alignment of, for example, the balanced (XLR) connections, etc. I also suspect, from the processing perspective, they are likely very similar, and it seems the only difference of note is that the Marantz AV10 only processes signal and the internal amps of the Denon are replaced by the AMP10 of the Marantz set-up. Aside from the amplification, I wonder if there are any notable differences between the A1H and the AV10 at all. For most applications, the Denon A1H would do great. However, as you have pointed out, I can easily concede that the Marantz AV10/AMP10 would be the choice for much larger and more professional installations. Thank you for a good review. (If memory does not fail me, the Marantz is also supposed to have legacy connections, whereas the Denon lacks them all together, aside from a Phono connection). Thank you for your informative review.

simple and direct question, does the marantz AV 10 compared to the Marantz AV 8805\A have a better sound?, by better sound I mean more precision, greater details, more spatiality, more channel separation, more three-dimensional stereophony and better than the 8805A? It's more musical and has a cinematic timbre like trinnov or storm audio thanks

They really need to either add balanced outs to the Denon or make a Denon Preamp processor. I've always used Denon separates since the AVP-8000. The porthole on the Marantz looks dumb, it's bad enough that I really am looking for alternatives now.

I can understand that the Marantz AMP10 would cost that much, when compared to the Denon. What I can't get my head around, is how the Marantz AV10 is still more expansive than the A1H, given that it seems to have similar features. How can the Marantz AV10, with no built-in amps whatsoever, be more expansive than the A1H with similar features, but with all the built-in amps?? Maybe I didn't spend enough time looking at the specs difference. But it seems like it would have to be a hell of a difference to justify Marantz AV10 actually being more expansive than the entire A1H.

Processors are always more expensive as it caters to HT fanatics. On the other hand does Marantz sound better than Denon cheaper counterpart - yes it does. Does it matter if you use external amps for main channels? Probably won’t. Only when you use internal amps you would hear the difference like cinema 30 vs 6800h. But this is preamp - the difference will be negligible. But many people don’t want 32kg monster especially if they have external amps

I actually made the purchase of the AVR-A1H (list $6500). In my opinion, no matter which one you purchase, as soon as a new model is available you dread the fact that you have the old model. I believe you should make the decision more on necessity then want. It just seems wasteful to spend over twice the cost for the amp10 (list $7000) and AV10 list $7000) if you really don't need it. Unless money is no object. Also, you can replace the AVR-A1H (list $6500) with the next model for less cost then the AV10 (list $7000) alone and you have a brand new system. With separates it always seems that the new models come out together. I also believe that most AV connoisseurs are going to want the new processor with it's matching amp Not a new processor with an old model amp. Just my thought. On layovers I watch your channel all the time. Thanks for the video!

And what about Dirac Art that is being released this spring. If these units are not powerful enough to run the Dirac Art room correction software, it will mean another upgrade to a new denon AVR in the future, or is that is that what denon is planning to do to keep the sales coming. I won't touch these new products unless I get Dirac ART upgrade guarantee.
@PilotInCommand777
@PilotInCommand777 Жыл бұрын
@@michaeloconnor9465 My opinion would be to make a purchase of any device with software and configuration as it comes at the time of release only if you are happy with that configuration. If future upgrades are ever available, Great. I never count on possible future upgrades that may or may not come. Also, Sometimes new technology is with hardware and cannot be upgraded via software then a new purchase is made and the last device becomes a distant memory and it doesn't hurt as bad

@@PilotInCommand777 I don't agree, because their will be other manufacturers in the same price range adopting the new room correction in the near future. I think that shows how short sighted the new owners of sound united are. They must have known about the release of Dirac ART when planning these AVR's. I will stick with my X6700H for now and see what develops. Denon must know if their products will support the new room corrects with a firmware upgrade or if it won't. I think you will have people like me who will not rush out and buy these new AVR and sit on the fence. Even when Audioholics asked the owners of sound united they didn't get an answer, so for now it is a pass for me.

The Denon AVR-A1H has the same boards, same dacs, and the same video processing as the Marantz. The AVR has all your amps. They cost the same money. I would buy the AVR, the Marantz is a rip-off price as is all the marantz AVR. The only difference is balanced outputs. I go HT bypass to keep my stereo separate to my AV listening. I predict the price of both these units will drop by 33% in price within 12 months. Only a mug would pay the prices they are asking for now, also Sound United can't say if we buy these unit if we will be able to upgrade to dirac art room correction. I will not change my AVR unless they guarantee that the AVR or Processor will be dirac art upgradable. Or else I will be flushing my money down the toilet.

I came to the same conclusion. How can the Marantz AV10 actually be MORE expansive than the entire Denon AVR-A1H , if the Marantz AV10 is basically a subcomponent of the Denon AVR-A1H. It makes no sense whatsoever, and does feel like a complete ripoff. Also... I was close to buying the AVR-A1H, but pulled back.... precisely because I ain't buying that thing, if it ain't gonna support Dirac ART. That would be absurd, with such a supposedly revolutionary system just around the corner. I might consider the Marantz AMP10 for now, IF the associated component was at a more reasonable price. So no... on everything for now.

Digital technology implemented in top-of-the-line, in flagships AV processors (of different mass producers like the ones of the top 3 in the world - Denon, Marantz, Yamaha) has to be like flagships, top-of-the-line smartphone producers (Huawei, Xiaomi, Samsung, Apple, Honor). Because in digital tech, what is flagship component today, will become obsolete in just a yera or two... This is why in 2023, I don't want to buy old, obsolete technology at an unjustified cost! Only the newest and best-performing components has to be used and I don't see this in AV10 or in the Denon AVR A1H... In regarding only to the audio side of the Marantz AV10... My level of expectations at 7000 USD (or even more) is that I need one AV unit to sound like a flagship stereo, on ALL channels... BTW... Be honest... who is using 15 channels configuration in a living room? Or kilometers of wires for zone 2 or zone 3 connections in which the end result is to play same music, instead of separate very good quality audio components in those rooms? We are not talking about hearing the same music in corridors or on an elevator of a hotel, because who really wants this? Sabre DAC ES 9018 used inside AV10? Why not at least ESS 9039Pro or AKM4191EQ? Or a dedicated very low noise stereo DAC in dual differential mode per each channel? As a top-of-the-line product in 2023, it should have! And where is HDCD decoding? Audiophile CD format is not dead, SACD is not dead, Dolby Digital is not dead... Even vinyl is not dead, and in 2023 we still not having a decent phono preamplifier for both MM and MC cartridges in a top-of-the-line AV processor... In the audiophile community, we are still spinning HDCD CDs, SACD discs, DVD Audio discs - and for HDCD, we need that decoder. Also...we are in 2023, right? ...where is streaming and decoding native DSD1024 audio files? I want to see ultra-low noise separate power supplies inside of a top of the line AV processor... This is the level of quality that I expect from a Marantz or Denon AV processor flagship, in 2023. RCA connectors are made from gold-plated brass? This is NOT desirable, because of brass low conductivity. It should be made at least from silver or gold-plated OFC copper (again... I'm modest...I'm not mentioning pure silver-made connectors...). I want to see OCC pure copper or OCC pure silver wires used in inside cabling! Talking further...what OP-AMP are used inside? No info here... Also, no info regarding SINAD with EQ in flat mode at max output volume. I want an upscaler even from DVD definition, to 4k and 8k resolution! Also, who is really using HEOS?? Especially in this high-end area... McIntosh is having same marketing policy... No detailed info in regarding inside components used, and no tech info regarding very important audio performance in their top-of-the-line AV processor... Only high prices! With all due respect for these companies, this is not acceptable.

The AMP10 barely qualifies as separate power amp... 200w/channel with 2 channels driven? ... is not very good. Most power amps have like 150 watts 8ohm with all channels driven ... PS AMP10 has 500w max ... which makes it impossible to guarantee their 5x 200W * 70 claim for all channels. That would take (200 *70%) *16 = 2240 watt ... NOT 500 watt.

With 500w usage you can physically not have those specs... it's IMPOSSIBLE. So Marantz lies in its specs.... somewhere.

Why does he keep emphasizing 200w per channel 16 channels driven? Thats false. Its 200w per channel 2 channels driven, not 16. There's no way that would be able to power 200w per channel 16 channels driven

Ha ha ha..... 150watts @2 channels driven and 30watts? Per channel at 15 channels driven...... So, what are people going to do? ..... they will load that amp up with 4 or 2 ohm speakers to get "higher" volumes..... the transformer and power transistors will smoke, then BOOM 💥 catastrophic failure after 1 hours use?........ Lets not talk about the 2019 dacs that are used in these machines ess8019 i think?...... Regarding the marantz, even at its quoted output, it will need atleast a 20 to 25 amp dedicated power socket in usa, and as we have 240v here i reckon a 15 or more amp circuit breaker........... Christ only knows at "peak power" what these things will draw from your mains...... Its a too crazy adventure for me to get involved in....

XLR makes no real difference at all, the only reason you'd ever bother with it is on long runs or runs that have a problem with interference. There is absolutely no other reason or benefit. If the amp is sitting that close to the processor there is even less reason to consider XLRs because it won't change a thing. For the subs it is a good thing, hence they both have it. For the other channels, take it or leave it, using RCAs will almost always be exactly the same.

@@wendellwendellb339 are you wanting to replace the r12 because they sound muddy in comparison to the pb-1000s? Why do you want to upgrade? Definitely keep the whole system either ported or sealed. The pb-1000s are great subs.

@@Dreamediaav I have made comments about the subs in my system, and the replies were to the effect that I need all my subs to be the same brand. I don’t feel that the R12’s sound muddy. I think they sound fine, especially after I had made the necessary adjustments. I know the new Denon/Marantz line will be getting the Dirac upgrade, but, I also bought into Channa and Joe n Tell’s Spatial Audio Calibration toolkit! I like to put questions out there. This is still a learning process.

The Rotel 1580MKII sounds better than the Denon A1H in every respect. He resolves better, makes more details and plays better to the point. It sounds more precise and, above all, clearer. I was able to compare both devices under the same conditions. .With the Denon you pay a lot of money for pointless features (bells and whistles) that you don't necessarily need, such as a video scaler and DSP stories, without primarily concentrating on the essentials and that's what I mean. the pure sound. The Rotel is spartanly equipped, but every euro is in the sound. The Denon has more power than the Rotel, because of course it has more power amps, but the overall quality of the power amps in the Rotel is not characterized by quantity, but much more by quality and that is also reflected in the sound. The Rotel also sounds much more audiophile in stereo mode. Rotel is also not a marketing brand. In any case, for ME it is a clear number: for me, the Rotel is currently the best AV integrated amplifier on the market in the consumer sector and taking into account the price-performance ratio. As an alternative, the Acram AV 21 and AV 31 come into consideration for M kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e5-TiduftN_YfqM.html , ab der 15:00 Minute....Rotel is better!!!

That might be that the Rotel sounds better, but the Rotel brand is not what it used to be in terms of their build quality and reputation. All of Rotel equipment nowadays are all outsourced and assembled in China, instead of Japan like in the good old days of the ‘90s Rotel equipment! Whereas the Denon A1H is still being manufactured at the prestigious historic factory in Japan (Furakawa)
