@markstewart3501 Greatley.....No.... But in theory...... yes, ss they are shielded and "sum" the signals together eleminating any distortion you may have in your room like microwave waves, strip lights or any other devices that kick out rf interference 🙂.... Research exactly what XLR connections are and how they work.... and if you think you might have rf interference from your room or maybe a neighbour is kicking some out, than xlr is best..... i use them all the time just in case, as i record and listen to audio as a profession..... Hope that helps 🙂👍🏻

@@andrewrobinsonreviews Great job !!!! Kristi's commentaries are so invaluable. The challenge will be to figure out where the upper $$ limit would be for your audience. This pair Marantz separates definitely comes close... Nice job explaining other options that will come very close in performance. This hobby of ours can get out control FAST !!!

Another informative and entertaining video from your channel. But what impresses me the most is the complete honesty we get from you and Kristi. Unless one is very affluent that $14k would not make a dent in their home theater spare change, there is really no need to spend that much. You had said that one could get 90% of that Marantz experience for about 1/3 of the cost. I beg to differ on only the percentage. To me, it’s more like 95% or slightly better in my opinion. Thanks again for this video and please keep them coming!

This is the kind of product that shows me how I’m at the point of diminishing returns. I currently run a Marantz AV7706 with two Marantz MM8077 amps for my 11ch. This setup would give me 4 more channels, but at double the cost for a slight increase in sound. Great review.

Great and honest review, well done! I’d personally would really like a dedicated video on that last bit - “what do you actually need?” Not so much amp-speaker pairing (you sort of have one of those), but more on set ups etc. Keep it up! (Commenting directly after watching instead of a day after really helps 😉)

Great review. For most of us - we may not have the ear for the really high end amps even if price is no object so value / cost is important and I am glad you mention it. I always suggest go listen to equipment for a while before you buy it and your ear on a wide range of equipment is appreciated. Again great review.

Hi Andrew and Kristi - I know you danced around the idea by suggesting alternatives but you could make a video dedicated solely to separates vs one-box movie theaters and when it makes sense to opt for separates and what the expected improvements would be. The space-saving cable recommendation was genius! 😀 Just an idea! Great video, as always!

Picked up this combo to replace my current AV8805A and 2 x MM8077s. Excited to get it wired up and calibrated. I'm running a 7.2.6 Atmos setup, but also love 2 ch music. While I only need 13 ch, both the AV10 and AMP10 offer cool options for bi-amping. For example, I'm running B&W 702 S2 Signatures. They're power hungry. While my current setup is adequate to drive them, for music, I have to run higher volume before they really wake up, even with my current 150W/ch on the MM8077s. Since I top out at 13 channels for my home theater, I plan to tap the unused front wide L/R pre-outs on the AV10 for bi-amp mode. While still only 13 channels, I'll be tapping 15 of the 17 pre-outs with this setup. The AMP10 itself offers some cool bi-amp capabilities. Down the road, if I ever move to B&W's 800 lineup, I could bi-am Front L/R as noted above, and then bi-amp the 800 series center using the bi-amp option on the AMP itself.. In short, there's some awesome features on both AV10 and AMP10 for those with less than 16 channels who wish to tap bi-amping for hungrier speakers.

With the Marantz AV 10 having four independent subwoofer outputs it appears to be meant for the custom install industry. A more appropriate comparison appears to be with the Anthem AVM 90. On the amplifier side give Outlaw Audio some love.

Thanks Andrew and Kristi for another great review. Myself personally I would not nor could I have a crazy home theater setup in my living space. Given the fact I live in an apartment in NYC , any setup greater than a 5 channel or 7 channel setup would probably make me homeless. The noise complaints would be out of control. But I can see how this Marantz setup would provide a person with all of the options one could currently have in settling up a Uber home theater room. A lot of us have spent extra money on equipment that had to be replaced because our current system has been tapped out. I see it as a buy once and keep for a long while type of purchase. Finally Happy Mother’s Day.

It doesn't matter how many channels you are running. More important is if the speakers and amplification are entertaining at low volumes. Having sound modes to quickly adjust bass is nice to have too. Sadly as expensive as this gear is, it too will be outdated soon enough. I think it makes sense to think of receivers as 'wear items' that will continually be replaced. Think of it this way, anyone willing to part with 14k for this combo will also be interested in the latest and greatest in a few years time and will likely upgrade. That is what truly makes this hobby expensive!

Well done ! Love Marantz's contemporary looks and I have the Model30/SACD30n that started it all. The pairing featured in this video is great for those that have DEDICATED HT rooms. But for the 80% of us that don't have dedicated HT room, it's seems like an overkill. I still have and love my Sony ES Dolby Digital Receiver circa 2007 that can even do DSD audio on SACDs !

My system is 7.2.4 (Marantz 8015) with the family house at 5.3.4 (McIntosh separates), so I am one of those 2% odd balls but I will not add anymore speakers. Those systems get the job done and unless I build a custom home in the future I would stick with something a little less HOT as the 8015 is warm enough! lol

There in USA are people who live in the cities where they have built a smart houses with Cinema space in refurbished basements (e.g. Los Angeles). Those houses and spaces have a capabilities for big number of Amp driven channels and big sound stages. This Marantz combo is for that kind of people who want best of the best for their needs and space. I think Sony TA-AN1000 or something from AZ family is best for us, an ordinary mortal men and women. Still rocking Sony STR-DN1060 in stereo mode. Still very satisfied.

I can't believe only one Comment (so far) asked about a comparison to Anthem. I know separates like this will give you a lot more than an AVR like the MRX740, which you reviewed. (Although if you still have the MRX740, you actually could do a direct comparison to the AV10 by using the MRX740 as a preamp and making sure both the Marantz and Anthem are connected to the same amp(s) using RCA interconnects, to keep it fair.) But when I see this, I can't help but think that the AVM90 (same price but WITH full-featured proprietary room correction, so really cheaper than the AV10,) paired with extremely powerful and high-end Class D amps from companies like Monoprice or Buckeye Audio or maybe even ATI will give you MORE power than this Marantz combo for several $1000s cheaper (but still obviously expensive.) .... Sooo i have to ask: any chance that you'll be reviewing the AVMM 70 or AVM90? If someone were considering the Marantz combo vs something like the amps I mentioned above with the AVM70 or AVM90, I think that such a decision would come down to different aspects of sound quality and room correction results (aside from price, of course.) Heck, it would be a great comparison for us to all watch regardless of the reason, and I haven't seen anyone compare the AV10 to the AVM90.... yet.

When I finished our basement about five years ago, I ran speaker cable in the ceiling for the day I would do Atmos. I put in some wall rear channel speakers. Now I’m more into two channel stereo so I haven’t finished it. I’ll probably just stick to 5.1 if I ever get to that point. I’ve gravitated to more music than movies as I’ve gotten older. I guess Hollywood isn’t doing it for me like it used to.

I've heard the AV 10 AMP 10 combo in a 9.4.6 setup with some great floorstanders. It was so incredibly good that it put me off watching movies at home for a month. Much better than any theater I've been to. Being in a sonic bubble that made knowing exactly where sounds came from had the weird effect of becoming very concious of the flat screen in front. Anyway, I see people here listing their own 5.1 setups and mentioning that's all they need. While that's probably true, you also have no clue what you're missing. It's an incredible sonic experience.

Out of my budget, but saw Gene at Audioholics early stuff on these but haven't caught the amp bench test yet to see if it really gives us 5 -7 channels driven power balance, which is one of most important to me: so sick of manufacturers giving us 2 channels driven bs when most of us buy a receiver/amp bc we are doing 5.1+! Either way, love the video as always, great stuff. Much appreciated! Have a great day!

Andrew in regards to your question. I have multiple speaker set ups. I have a 3.1 and 3 2.0 setups, so in total I have 9 speakers and a subwoofer. Seems like whenever I buy a new speaker I make an excuse for another 2.0 with a budget amp, when a amp dies I usually upgrade my best amp to a better one then move the others down the line. I, sometimes I gift my old speakers and amps away when I buy new ones. I like to ensure all of the hardware I own is used somewhere, but don't make enough to afford incredible gear, just a lot good bookshelves, like KEF Q150s and such. Solid speaker when it is on sale.

I am using 13.2 with the Marantz SR8015 with the Buchardt I150. The mains and subs are driven with the I150. The surrounds and center channel are powered by the Marantz. I’m not sure an additional 2 speakers would make any difference to my set up as my room is quite small. It’s only 12 x 17. My main speakers are the Buchardt S400 Mk2, and they are 12 feet apart. One SVS SB3000 each is sat next to each S400 Mk2s. When I listen to music only; then only the I150 is used. When I’m watching movies, then the Marantz is turned on to power the center and surrounds. I am using a projector to get a 175” screen that sits in between the S400 Mk2s.

I enjoy the drool factor of the Marrantz and thus the video. I am a 95% of the way for a fraction of the cost guy for example I am on a NAD receiver running a 5.1 with Magnepans across the front 3 but as such I want an amp with the power to feed them which may throw the cost of speakers to cost of amps ratio away from the norm, so... I like that you included various option comparisons to get the power and processing for the smaller system.

Thanks for another great video. I am currently moving to a new house. And i just ordered the Marantz Cinema 40 and the M&K S150/S150T 5.1 with ofc the M&K X15. I did order two pre-amps for the front. One is 2 x 800w and the other i will bridge for the center is 2 x 500w. All in 8ohms. So i guess my front will have around 400-500W. Cant wait the listen to the Dominus Sub and ofc the Marantz. Let me just put it like this. I ordered alot and got one dang good deal on this. I will get it all in early August. This deal includes two technics 1200mrk7 since i used to DJ back in the 80´s and 90´s before i became a soldier. A digital amp 2 x 1000w in 8Ohm and some B6W speakers for that DJ setup. I am thinking of getting a very high quality to play on the Marantz. So even the old man will DJ once more. If money was no problem. Would you buy this??? I was also looking at the new 110year anniversary edition from Denon. A little cheaper in Denmark than the AV10. Whats your take on that one if you have any???? Or maby you will do a review on that soon???

I appreciate very much both the comparisons of Dirac and Audyssey as well as mention of the manual PEQ setup (my preference) from the Yamaha line and the restriction of this function from other brands. Spot on! I'm still amazed at the level of manual PEQ I have in my obsolete Emotiva UMC-200 processor compared to some of these bleeding edge $4k AVRs.

Great review Andy and Kristi. I've got the 3800 which also allows both dirac and audyssey. I've got a 7.4.4 setup running right now. Not sure if you've heard about JoeNTells new app coming up which will level the playing firld between Audyssey and Dirac. The 3800 gives you so much flexibility and gets you 90% of the way to the AV10 and AMP10 with some basic external amps. Ive got old Rotel power amps.

Hey Andrew and Kristi. Another great review 👍. I appreciate you telling people you can build a Home Theater system for less people coming into the hobby need to know this. So many people get scared away when they see the price of some of this stuff. My system Onkyo TZ50 and Outlaw 7000x amp. Under $3000 and sounds great. Keep up the good work 👏

Hi Andrew great review and maybe you dont know this but if you deep dive into multeq-x (and have the calibrated mic) you will find that you can import peq settings from REW and layer them onto the sound. Also you can also put the same curve on audyessy and dirac. I am not a fan of the default audyessy curve and always disable it and use shelf adjustments same as dirac. Audyessy has an advantage as you noticed at lower levels due to Dynamic-EQ which adjusts the eq based on playback volume. Dirac does not have this and requires you to make different presets for different volumes. In my experience on Denon A1H Dirac and Audyessy when calibrated using the advanced settings produce the same sound. There are a few recent videos on multeq-x that show how to get a lot more performance. When Dirac release Bass Control and ART then it might have an advantage over Audyessy. But we are a year away from that. multeq-x and dirac could warrant their own deep dive videos.

I have the Denon 8500H , currently running 9.2, front towers are bi-amped. Need to get the WAF (wife approval factor) to finish the install of my Atmos speakers of which would be 2 more pairs. Maybe in the future I can actually do a dedicated theater room. I feel liked the cramped space of our living room doesn’t truly allow for the expanse of sound to fully develop. I have thought of going back to 7.2.2 and calling it good.

Wow... a beast... my house is too small anyway... Still to answer your question : I run a 9:1 on a Yamaha rx-v6a. Opal49 by focal for what was the original 5:1 and a Klipsh Quintet for the satellites. It works really fine for my tiny TV/gaming space, wows me more than often. One option you didn't talk about (maybe in the racking of the pre-amp), what would it gives with Crown Amps after the Pre-Amp ? Overkill ? Or a stadium only option? Thx guys, quick, precise, concise. To the fact ! you're the best!

I am not in the market for a product like this. I tried to do home theater in two different rooms for over ten years without much success. BUT . . . I never took any measurements, or tried to EQ the room, let alone treat it. Setting up a traditional 2-Channel system in my retirement, with the purchase of MUCH better speakers and more powerful amps has raised all the issues of room acoustics and bass modes anew for me. I’m not after immersive sound, but I am after really good sound. When I get the room treated and the speakers initially placed, I might be in the market for a processor / amp combo that would either let me download my own hard-won EQ values (as you describe the Yamaha offering), or offer me the choice between two different EQ systems as the Marantz system you describe above. I do like the four sub outs on the Marantz, but I don’t see myself ever using more than seven speakers plus however many subs it takes to tame my room’s nodes (4 at the most).

by biggest thing would be to consider what class this is comparing to at a 16channel setup, ur in the same ballpark as the entry Synthesis separates which from a ht perspective I would personally prefer to work with, as someone who works with an AV integrator, when doing a theater this comp recently bumped into that mix with synthesis and such.

@Bear Claw No it isn't actually. NASA went with graphite at first albeit via mechanical pencils, however they learned the issues of particulates (as well as the fire danger associated with non-mechanical pencils), which is what prompted them to seek out a different solution. From Scientific America "Originally, NASA astronauts, like the Soviet cosmonauts, used pencils, according to NASA historians. In fact, NASA ordered 34 mechanical pencils from Houston's Tycam Engineering Manufacturing, Inc., in 1965. They paid $4,382.50 or $128.89 per pencil. When these prices became public, there was an outcry and NASA scrambled to find something cheaper for the astronauts to use." Furthermore, "Pencils may not have been the best choice anyway. The tips flaked and broke off, drifting in microgravity where they could potentially harm an astronaut or equipment. And pencils are flammable--a quality NASA wanted to avoid in onboard objects after the Apollo 1 fire."

The preamp is all ready at home. But I need amps for my LCR, and bi-amp for them. So do you think the power amp 10 is a good choice ? I’m more a 2 channel listener (on NOLA speakers) but need the HT solution too. Thought with this one, I could have my LCR speakers bi-amp and the rest of the HT Speakers amped to by the Amp10 ? Or better two EMOTIVA ??? Or some Audiolabs ? Good video as always.

The price vs performance gap for electronics is just not as wide of a chasm as it used to be, especially for Home Theater. If you are powering a full on multi-rowed home theater with the need for all the channels it can drive, I can't see where this makes sense. I get the money spent in the past when chasing sound quality and separates were the way to get the performance you can get now in an integrated eceiver. I'm sure the few that have the need are very happy to know these products are out there!

I have to admit I actually enjoy watching all your podcast videos on hi-fi equipment that’s affordable. I have to use that for information for my second system. I am building a high end system from scratch again and I am looking for an AV processor. That is high end I’m looking at the Macintosh audio control or Trinov or that other one? I’m not sure what the name is but you get the point I have listened to a couple of the reviews on the a dual package here from Sony and they luaded it for his transparency. It’s definitely a step up from any other processors that they’ve heard of so I’m kind of Puzzled that you considered a $300 receiver, the equal in transparency to that of the audio on the Sony. I guess I’m going to Trinov after all.😂. I’m also going to try audio control and they’re processor after all the company only is about 2 miles away from me.

Not rocking 16 channels but do have an 11.2.4 system. Av10 and 4 Emotiva amps ranging from the DR3 to the basx a500. Would be nice if Marantz offered the same experience but with less channels for cheaper. Maybe the AV20 with 13 channels for a thousand less. AV30 with 11 channels for maybe 2k less?? Not everybody has 16 channels, but most of us, I can say, have 7.1 or higher and would love something like this go for less channels, cheaper price but still the same bells and whistles of th AV 10
