I purchased the 6700H and running 11.2 Auro 3d because of your video a few weeks ago . Your video showed the amp assign capabilities for Auro so i purchased 2 more height speakers to make 6 currently. I forwarded that video to a few people on some forums it was very helpful for the amp assign portion of the video . Plus the current new stock has the upgraded HDMI boards and no more issues with the XSX running 120HZ DV running direct to the AVR👌....

@@TechnoDad If I had stayed with Magnolia/best buy I most likely would as the employee discount for audio components was ridiculous, (cough)overhead, for instance a 300 dollar hdmi cable or even a speaker cable from audioquest cost me like 30-40 dollars, thats when I started really believing Gene Delasala from audioholics. I would do the pepsi challenge with acoustic research and audioquest carbons , even with a usb for an asynchronous dac like a Mytek Liberty, and the cables never did much. The biggest upgrade in sound I ever got was having the dac use its balanced outs to a 2 channel amp powering bw 705 s2's and the unbalanced outs to each sub in mono(sb2000s). I would bypass the processor altogether and rely on the dacs volume control. Try this if you never have for great stereo listening with tidal or flac. DAC I did this with is the L.K.S. DHA004

At least before Sound United started having chip supply problems (like everyone else), Denon products spec'd better than Marantz when performance measured. Marantz adds an op-amp section that screws with the sound of their units to give them a "house" type sonic signature. It really dampens the output of their DAC's.

This is the wrong comparison. You shouldn’t match them up based upon price, but based upon specs because Sound United has two functionally identical models at each level, one a Denon and one a Marantz, with t he Marantz always more expensive because of some higher-spec components and luxury brand “cachet.” The functional twin to the X6700H is the Marantz SR-8015. The 8015 costs $700 more (or did, before the recent price increases) but that’s again because of certain higher-quality components and that “luxury brand” premium. I spent time with both and ultimately chose the SR-8015. To me, it sounded more accurate than the X6700H, but there are camps who prefer one or the other, and ultimately it comes down to personal preference. Both are excellent, it’s just a matter of whether the quality upgrades in the Marantz are worth the big jump in price. To me, they were, but others certainly will have different opinions on that, and many prefer how the Denons sound, anyway. Sound United has clearly said that Denons sound different from Marantzes, because they are intentionally tuned that way to give buyers a choice. I heard a significant difference in sound between the two otherwise identical models myself, so the different tuning claim is real.
@speedcanada1
@speedcanada1 6 ай бұрын
I second that... although the Denons typically test better, I've always found that I preferred "the Marantz" sound which is a little bit warmer. Is it technically due to added distortion? Maybe, but it sure sounds better to my ears through my Energy RC speakers (and PSB Century before that). I've owned the same generation/equivalent model Denon & Marantz (I replaced the Denon AVR-3313CI (?) with an SR7007) ans since then have upgraded my Marantz to a SR7011 and now a SR7013. The Marantz units always felt heavier and sturdier than their Denon counterparts, and although I love the Marantz porthole aesthetic I do prefer the function of the Denon display. The price gap between the X6700H and SR8015 is quite big, particularly after more aggressive discounting available on the Denon. At this time, the Denon is on special for CA$1899 (reg $3999) vs the Marantz on special for CA$3299 (reg $5199). The M definitely isn't "worth" more than 1.5x the D, but then again, how do you put a value on how the two units make your system sound?

I figured I would wait a while and decide if I needed (let’s be real - wanted) a pre-pro. Then I impulse bought a Monolith HTP-1 B Stock for a great discount. Wow - 🤩 love, love, love the new pre-pro, and Dirac. With Bass Control enabled all 4 subs are dialed in and sound better than I have ever experienced in my room. Beyond Dirac vs. Audysse, I seem to get a lot more detail, clarity and channel separation and cleaner bass out of the Pre-Pro. I’d start with the amp, then eventually move up if needs be thereafter. Good luck.

I had a Marantz SR-7010 and Denon 6200 at the same time and there is a difference in sound signature. Tested both repeatedly on my Klipsch RF-7’II’s in Direct Mode the Marantz was definitely less bright and music listening was more "warm" and enjoyable. The Denon however was more "sterile" but also more punchy. The amps in the Denon with its monolithic amp design were definitely stronger than the amps in the Marantz. I sold the Marantz and moved on to the Marantz SR-8015 and it is a significant upgrade over both in sound with the Toroidal transformer.

And the SR8012 now new for € 2129,- . But still great video where i'm in doubt to buy a SR8015, SR8012 or a SR7015 as an upgrade for my SR9300 and I am a Marantz fan.

Hi, Niels! What you just described is how these companies have trained you to pay more for the same things through brand loyalty. Unfortunately, price is the only comparing factor for consumers. If, however, you want to pay more for equal or lesser performance, that's totally on you.
@nielst.4942
@nielst.4942 2 жыл бұрын
@@TechnoDad Now i'm definitely gonna buy the SR7015, if you mentioned how companies work with brand loyalties I think the SR8015 is overkill. Also the price difference between the X6700H and the SR7015 for you is just $ 100,- more for a lot more features, there for me it's almost € 1000,- less for almost the same machine. That's huge!!! Where I just want from a 5.1 setup to a 5.1.2. and a better connection with my Philips 65OLED804. THNX!!!

Yeah my Marantz 7705 always has the door down for that reason. Sucks, but more important is the fact that Marantz sounds better than Denon to my ears so they still get my money. I do wish Denon would do a pre-pro tho. I used receivers pre-outs before and it is great, but it is not the same as a dedicated processor. I think the difference in the receivers is warmth and not distortion. Marantz is still A/B and it shows. Denon is digital and it sounds digital.

Currently using an old Denon AVR-X500, a 5.1 receiver which still works. Won't be using it for 4K, but I'll probably just use a Toslink connection if I ever get a 4K TV. Currently I use it in a tiny space and use only 3 channels, centre, right and left, haven't gotten around to building the rear speakers and subwoofer. My dad built his system years ago, but had to take it apart when we moved, but he kept all the parts. We're big believers in use and reuse parts, especially in this day and age since full speaker systems are very expensive. He upgraded his speakers long ago, so I sort of inherited his old speakers, which still work and fills my tiny apartment with good sound.

When comparing those two I would absolutely go with the Denon. It sounded better for stereo music and has the additional channels. But I‘d still take the SR8015 over both since that‘s one more step up in sound quality. I didn‘t have the chance yet to compare that to separates but I also have a very small room and sit rather close to my TV so I don‘t know if separates could even still make a difference. I've been a Denon fanboy for many years, but I've changed my affinity to Marantz. My latest Denon gave up, and it turned out to be due to a diode failing in the power supply. When taking the thing apart to service it, I was very disappointed by the internal build quality. Cheap Chinese components, especially the electrolytic capacitors, which should absolutely not be skimped on. The Denon display also gradually lost it's brightness, to become completely unreadable over the course of 2 years, which was again, due to poor component selection. I remember when Denon was a quality buy. Not any more. They are now a very expensive, but disposable, item. They put a lot of bells and whistles on their amps, but the basics are now sub standard. I'm not saying that the circuits are designed poorly, they're not. It's that the accountants have got a hold on component selection, and the amps' performance seems to degrade much quicker than they should for this reason. Amps obviously get quite hot, and if you're not choosing good quality components, you're asking for, and getting, trouble. As for not being able to read the Porthole on the marantz from 14 feet away. Well, unless you've got a 500 inch screen, and eyes like a hawk, you're not going to make any use of 4k video from that distance, let alone 8k. You might as well stick to 1080p, because you're paying for something you can't see. The other issue I had with the Denon was that the Audio Return Channel would not work with my Samsung panel. This is due to Denon not implementing the full ARC specification, which is downright lazy. Maybe I will find issues with the Marantz, I don't know. But, I have definitely seen a deterioration in what Denon are doing, especially when the cover is taken off, and the internals are scrutinized. I wonder if anyone has tested the linearity and distortion of Denon amps after 6 months of use. I strongly suspect that they might drift off their "shop floor" performance.

Hi Techno dad.. I have a Denon X8500H whenever i engage the Front Wide speakers it disabled Audyssey. Please can you advise on what's happening. Thanks
@TechnoDad
@TechnoDad 2 жыл бұрын
Delroy, that's pretty strange. So you setup Front Wide in the Amp Assign menu and then Audyseey is turned off?
@delroythompson8929
@delroythompson8929 2 жыл бұрын
@@TechnoDad yes only the Graphic EQ would come on and the other part of Audyssy would be off causing the change in sound. But the Front wide speakers play just fine in the multi channel format. I am going to connect it to an external amplifier and see if it changes anything. Thanks for responding to my question.

So you said Denon x6700h you can run with 13 ch with external Amp, will 2 ch Amp be good enough for the 2 main standing speakers in 7.2.4 set up?
@TechnoDad
@TechnoDad 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes, the X6700H will run 13 channels for either a 7.1.6 or 9.1.4 Atmos setup. You will need a minimum of a 2 channel amp for this kind of setup. For a 7.2.4 setup, you will not need an external amp.

Thank you for your research on the two products. It looks like my Carver amps will be mated with Denon.

Hi Technodad. I just saw that Anthem raised the price on their 1140 from 3599 to 4599. Absolutely ridiculous.Your feelings?

Yeah, that's the issue with Anthem and why I went with an Audio Control AVR. I wish I could afford the processor...maybe next time!

After also returning the Yamaha, I came to my own conclusion... all Japanese AVRs sound more or less the same! I'm so glad I persevered and finally found an av which doesn't sound digital. May I present a analogue sounding AVR kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rtyUpKxm1sDFZps.html

Will be there be a sound difference between the Marantz 7015 vs the 8015 if your only setup is 5.2.4?
@sharathSizZle
@sharathSizZle 2 жыл бұрын
Mostly number of channels supported, then again keep in mind sr8015 is a bigger receiver than means more power = more sounds at same volume level. This is the only difference your ear will notice however on paper expect to see some fancy numbers 😅 honestly get the amp to drive the speakers with the channel and with the audio format you want and you're golden put that extra money on better speakers instead.
@TechnoDad

I don't think there's going to be a noticeable difference in sound from those units.

are they on the same level ? I was thinking that sr7015 is rather equivalent of x4700 instead of x6700 ...hmmm
@TechnoDad
@TechnoDad 2 жыл бұрын
X4700H is $2,099, SR7015 is $2,799, and Denon X6700H is $3,099. So the SR7015 and X6700H are closer in price. Also, when this video was made, the X6700H was $2,499, the SR7015 was $2,299, and the X4700H was $1,699. So again, the X6700H and SR7015 are more of an apples-to-apples comparison.

@@TechnoDad thx for your point of view. I will rather say that apples to apples means the same spec and then we can discuss which tu buy because its cheaper or its delivering better sound :) but it can be different criteria taken as you set the same price.
