It can be super confusing trying to understand what your dentist or dental hygienist is saying during your appointment. Some patients say it sounds like we are speaking in code! By using specific dental vocabulary - it helps dental professionals to more accurately communicate exactly what they see in your mouth. I became a DA during Covid without any schooling. Everything I know so far I have learned through working. I know some of the lingo but since I didn’t go to dental assisting school I don’t know all of the terminology. I found your channel recently and your videos have been so helpful.

I had fillings done today and I remember my dentist using the term buccal when she was looking at the teeth she would be working on. It’s nice to know now what she meant.

I have ALWAYS found the Universal Numbering System to be waaaaay more confusing. So thankful that we use the FDI two-digit notation here in Canada 🇨🇦 ...fellow RDH

During a check in with the supervising instructor in RDH program, I called out canker sores instead of it’s fancy name aphthous ulcer… The instructor corrected me which I never forget 😅😊
