for me, the dentures were not a vanity decision- am old & have no need to impress anyone. the disturbing issue is that after months of trying, they are utterly miserable to eat with. they are really useless if the only advice is to chop everything fine before ingesting. went to another office for a consult & all I got was a pitch for $40k implants. I would never recommend dentures to anyone the worst decision of my life. they're even a mess to drink out of a cup or glass when in. I'm done with them.

This post is to answer more recent questions and comments: 1) Yes, dentures can be very expensive. That's surprising to most people because it is often thought that pulling all the teeth and putting in dentures is a cheap option. To get every tooth pulled, often with bone grafting and then replace every tooth in the mouth with well fitting upper and lower dentures is a big expense. But for many people who've been filling and re-filling teeth only to have them break or having root canals done only to lose the tooth, the investment of dentures can prevent future recurring costs. 2) Timeline: Most of our patients elect to have a healing denture placed right at the time of extractions so that they are never without teeth. This denture is re-surfaced on the inside over and over again until the gums are completely healed. As the gums heal, they shrink, so the re-surfacing is necessary to keep them from being lose. Once healed their dentures are made to the new healed shape of the gums. The healing denture is saved as a back up denture for lost or broken emergencies. The healing dentures can be worn for around 6 months on average while waiting for healing. When molds are taken and the dentures are ordered, we can usually get them back within a week. I've been watching videos for a while now. I have not been to a dentist since 2004 and before that I ended up losing all the molars due to acid reflux since the roots were decayed. Some failed root canals and the top teeth were shifting . It's nice some people can afford dentures which I cannot , I'd be happy right now just to have the 5 very loose bottom front teeth removed and a flipper. One canine is so loose and sits up so high it's difficult to eat anything . There is no way I would smile since even my top teeth have receded gums and shifted. That's what happened to me due to the company I worked for had great ins then degraded it to garbage then they decided to fire me . I have searched everywhere to find a place who can do just something to make things better yet nothing exists that I can afford . I'm 68 living on a fixed income . Yet it's nice to see people getting what they need. The dentist I used was great , they did root canals and even used a wisdom tooth to support bridges yet the wisdom tooth that they did a root canal on fell apart . Add to this the new dental ins they provided was so bad I found the company didn't pay anything it was all on me.

I will answer some of the questions I've received on this post:Getting dentures is not easy, it is like any body part which is lost and must be replaced. The patient will have to learn to do some things more slowly until they become used to the replacement. There can be pain and also a sense of loss for the missing body part too.No, I do not have dentures. If I did I would use the denture glues if necessary but a well-made denture on good bone support doesn't usually need denture adhesive.If there is a lack of bone then an implant supported denture is a great option.
