I can't imagine not wanting to provide not only the basics for my child, let alone giving them the opportunities to excel in life with things like extra academic tutoring, music, sports, dance, swimming lessons etc... It's our job as parents to send our children out into the world with knowledge,confidence, skills and get them to contribute to society in a positive way. I sincerely hope that all his kids get some of these opportunities.

Those are the odds. It's not about what a single mother can do (even though statistically, women are paid less than men), it's about what the child deserves. Even if the mother can raise a child outside of poverty, the child deserves the financial care of both. It'd be nice to have emotional support also but courts can only do so much.

The poverty line for 8 kids is like 100,000 a year. My parents had 7 kids, up to 6 at a time. They both worked government jobs and we still grew up in poverty.
