Joey was riding the coattails of the late 70’s and early 80’s recruiting team’s. As soon as they could not get the top inner city recruits anymore they were done and so was Joey.

@@MrDuds1984 Yep - as a longtime DePaul fan, this is correct. They actually stopped getting recruits from the city after the Teddy Grubbs situation in the early 1980s. They did land Dallas Comegys, who was supposedly the most recruited high school player ever. I think the tournament of 1986 and the 1987 season were Joey's finest hour as coach. He did a nice job with the team that he built. But since then, they've been lost. Hard to see them coming back to prominence.
