There is an argument to be made that Mario Chalmers three to send the 2008 National Championship into overtime in 2008 is the most important/clutch shot in NCAA history. First of all, it happened in the Championship game, which automatically makes it more important than the other clutch shots in the past that happened in earlier rounds. The other two clutch shots that happened in Championship games are Lorenzo Charles and his dunk to put NC State over Houston, and Kris Jenkins three pointer to win over UNC. What makes Chalmers' shot more clutch though is that NC State was tied with Houston and Nova was tied with UNC. Had either of those guys missed their shots the game goes into overtime where they still could've won. If Chalmers doesn't make that shot the game is over and Kansas doesn't win. Third, it was found out later that Memphis had an ineligible player in the 2007-2008 season. They had to vacate all of their wins from that year. Had they won that night they would've had to vacate the title. So, Chalmers hitting that three-pointer prevented there being no champion for 2008 as the title would not be awarded to Kansas. There would just be no champion. This is just an opinion however and people are free to disagree. This is a great list, and all of these moments are classic moments. I hope there are more classic Madness moments this year.

Honestly it's not nearly as cool when they're tied before the shot. It's basically just a free shot at the basket. The one shot to win it or lose it is much more dramatic.
