THE hidden gem of the entire DM catalog. Lyrically, melodically, sonically.

The greatest single that never was. Black Celebration is a fantastic album. It doesn’t have anything that links it to their earlier era, except this song. It harks back to Shake The Disease. Either way it’s one of my favourite of their album tracks. The harmonies, the Melodie’s, all that synth work. It’s truly classic Depeche Mode.

А ведь это, реально, недооценённая песня - по сути мартиновская вещь, в которой Дейв и Мартин исполняют одновременно главные роли в вокале.

Great song. Been a DM fan for nearly 2 decades and I only discovered it last year! (They made a lot of tracks! And there ain't much filler on their '80s albums.)

[Happy + sad = the secret pop combo! It's how a lot of the best Beatle songs worked. Lennon/sad + McCartney/happy. Makes that melancholic recipe.]

Martin Gore (songwriter) wrote some pieces around 1985-86 that played with the idea of love being represented physically - "It's Called a Heart" In '85 and "Here is the House" in '86 come to mind with this theme... like your actual anatomical heart and the house you live in being vessels that hold your love. Really strange. HITH is most notable for me because it has classic DM harmonies between Dave (lead) and Martin (backing).

The lyrics could also possibly be about a séance and possession. "Body and soul come together" i.e. a soul is summoned at a séance and takes possession of a physical body at a haunted house! (I'm sure DM would never entertain that theory though! Even if it was true.)
