@@davidhooker4True. Nowadays lead singers are just that - singers. They aren't 'showmen/women' or actual 'performers' in the way that people like Dave Gahan is. Also Bono, Jim Kerr, and even Matt Bellamy (Muse) are....and people like Freddie Mercury, and David Bowie were. No one now wants to 'command' a crowd, or hold an audience 'in the palm of their hand' anymore...because they seem to think this is being overtly aggressive - when it's actually nothing of the sort! I think this is how many young people today see it though. Singers now just want to sing, standing still and motionless, do their songs....and then walk off the stage. They have no clue how to milk an audience, keep a song going for 15 minutes through involving the crowd, or make a concert truly memorable. They certainly don't make lead singers like they used to. And that's a huge shame.

Dave on stage is in his element. The only one who could match him from the 80s bands was the irreplaceable Michael Hutchence of INXS. Bono from U2 was and still is poor on stage for me, he could never do with the audience what Dave is still doing now.

@@lenstgelais7376first of all: in all sources, that i found her sales are estimated from 150 million to 200 million albums, so depeche mode is not that far behind with 120 million albums sold. Second: Depeche mode started around the same time as celine and were already superstars at the time she had her breaktrough. Third: Depeche mode are also known all around the world. Fourth: they have sold more tickets than celine, but that's partly because of the fact, that they have toured much more than her. So you see: Depeche mode and there fanbase arent nothing compared to celine and her fanbase. If that was case, then they wouldn't have sell more tickets than her or still have regulary 50k+ crowds at their concerts.

9:10 the thing with DM is that they've been around for 40+ years. They have a multi-generation crowd that's very loyal and caring. For example, a true fan of DM knows that Martin Gore had a very hard time with perfoming ln front of a live audience cause he was too anxious. That's why when he sings is such a special moment. And Dave's such a great front man. He captivates you with his voice and movements and theatricals. And I'm not even gonna elaborate on how they shaped the mainstream goth, synth, rock and pop music genres. Love them and I'm glad you had the same goosebumps i had when i saw this and i saw them live in Argentina ❤

Depeche Mode was ahead of their time. They also didn't/doesn't appeal to many conservatives, especially back in the 80's, so they've built their fan base gradually, from generation to generation. Their popularity continues to grow, while the older fans never left or got tired of them. Today, very few bands rival Depeche today in terms of popularity and ticket sales, and they have influenced possibly more musicians from a wide spectrum of genres than any band since the Beatles. They are the electronic version of The Beatles, the Beatles of the Gen X generation, and the Beatles of all the outcasts and outsiders out there who didn't fit in with the people who listened to AC/DC, Metallica, and Queen. I've seen 5 Depeche tours going back to the 90's, and it's always been an experience-a celebration of life. I just saw this show in Vegas in March, and it was incredible. They still got it. Go see them.

Depeche Mode fans were such a big thing that in many places, even here in Eastern Europe in the 90's, they were treated as a whole separate subculture. Like, you had punks, skins, metals, goths... and then you had Depeche Mode fans and you could actually tell the difference when you saw one.

I have been many times to their concerts in Italy and Germany. when they are on stage and start the show you are part of them. they have such a beautiful and energetic power that you will get goosebumps. they were the pioneers of synth pop in the 80s they created an unmistakable sound that has survived the trends and many generations. And they still know how to fill arenas around the world. I'm waiting for their concert in Bologna on July 16 with the Memento Mori tour. amazing album released march 23, 2023. maybe i can see them in los angeles in december too. “Can you imagine being there?” Yes, I can, because I WAS 😎 (I lived in Barcelona at the time). The entire concert was fantastic, but this song was an absolute highlight (for me). Just mind blowing! Most loyal fan base: Marillion. They were pioneers in crowd funding: their fans regularly buy their albums while the band is still in the writing and recording process. In this way, they have total artistic freedom and do not have to bow to commercial pressure from record companies who would otherwise advance all the recording and studio expenses etc. If you’d like some recommendations for Marillion songs to react to (in any case: pick live performances!), just let me know. Keep up the great work. I love watching your reactions.

Went to my first EVER any concert in May, in Antwerp, to see Depeche Mode. Really knowing nothing but one song (we can all guess which one that would be haha) I went in a deep dive with my best friend who has been a fan since.. I would wager since their beginning time. I had seen a few KZfaq videos, but unless you have BEEN there.. this particular song and crowd control.. when you look around you it is mind-blowing, stunning, beautiful, emotional, overwhelming, elevating, one could almost call it spiritual. I have to stop myself from crying just seeing this. We're all there, we're all the same, we're all wonderful, and it's love for one of the greatest groups of all time. I became a fan that day, and I am glad that I got to experience one of their concerts. It sure is a great way to start your fandom, lemme tell ya!

Depeche Mode was all about a nearly minimalistic and naive new approach to music in the 80s. And their songs were simply very well written. It does not take more. If people understand this 40 years later, it obviously has something, that is universal. Guess what, the musicians of the biggest bands with their own big fanbases probably had a Depeche Mode LP in their collection at some point in time. Bands like Muse, Coldplay, Rammstein, Nine Inch Nails admit that they have been influenced by them. Heck, I had a Depeche Mode LP at home when I already played heavy rock in the late 80s/beginning 90s. And I know of many rock and metal musicians that had. Today, nobody is ashamed of that anymore. They are/were just good songwriters and live performers.

Please please please watch them play this live from the Rose Bowl on the 101 tour!! That’s where the “tradition” of arm waving during Never Let Me Down all started. Band manager Daniel Miller commented that Dave had such control over that crowd that Dave “could have said to them all to go home and kill their parents” and they would have. Not the best example to use, but that still got his point across.

This is a legendary DM song that they play live on every tour, it all started on DM's 101 tour which is my favorite Live at the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles in front of 80,000 fans. Behind The Wheel form DM's 101 tour is an amazing intro to there concert the crowd id really hype and going nuts

DM's Everything Counts from 101 the whole crowd is also singing along with Dave near the ending of the song it is also a beautiful moment. At one point Dave gets really emotional because it is the ending of the concert and the last show of that tour. That show at the Rose Bowl is the largest concert DM has played in front of i believe roughly 80,000 fans

"See the stars they're shining bright, Everything's alright tonight" Your goosebump moment lyric. I'm not surprised you liked it. That part of every DM concert is an amazing moment, absolute highlight! The Hungarian fanbase one of the most famous crowd that is a fact. The band also know this and send for us many times private videos plus in the old school golden era they're answered the question on TV: 'Which country is their favorite from a fan point of view, and they said they have had frighteningly good memories in Hungary since 1985.' Since then, they have performed here 13 times and came back three times during their last Global Spirit Tour, which is a record! This year's Memento Mori Tour will be the 14th I'm looking forward to! I CAN'T WAIT!!! But I know they love Berlin very much. Several DVD's were recorded there because they worked there for a long time in studios both before and after the Iron Curtain. DEVOTEE💜FOREVER✌

When you talk about Fan base, I can only describe Depeche Modes fan base as unique and special. D.M are not mainstream like most other super groups. Once you have experienced Depeche Mode live, you'll instantly get it and be hooked. The songs are timeless and every single person at the concert is part of the band. I hope you get to go with your Dad sometime 🙂

Hi, Biss. Couldn't be more agree with this suggestion. Tour of the Universe had the best live versions in my opinion (may I suggest as well "It's a question of time", from the same tour). FUN FACT: The most iconic live performance by Depeche Mode, was ALWAYS some version of "Never let me down again". DIfferent from now, since "Enjoy the silence" live '19 became trendy.
