To anyone struggling from DPDR induced by weed, trust me I’ve been there. Last year I took a super strong edible and freaked out when it actually kicked in, I felt like I was dead. The next morning I woke up still feeling high and basically traumatized from last night. It was like a never ending high day after day with constant anxiety attacks and DPDR. It took me 3 months but it could’ve been cured much faster if I listened to these 3 things. 1. It is just anxiety - don’t freak out it’s just anxiety from a bad experience, it may feel uncomfortable and unbearably but do not let it control you 2. Go with the flow - towards the end the way I beat dpdr was just accepting that it was gonna be there and not caring if it was there or not, it eventually faded and now I haven’t had dpdr in 2 months 3. Some consider DPDR form of enlightenment and just breathe through anxiety attacks, take advantage of the fact that you have a heightened sense of consciousness. I know some of you reading this will be like “3 months 🤯🤯🤯 it’s been one day” trust me just follow my advice and go with the flow, don’t stress about it and it will go away I promise, you will be ok

This is actually very interesting because I have a dissociative disorder and it is fairly simular to DPDR. I actually might have experienced weed induced DPDR a fair amount of times but its just your head fucking with yourself and you need to realise that. I myself dont give a shit if im here or not and thats very crucial because you only space out once you start thinking about it too much. the human mind is a box full mystery.

DPDR ended for me when I realized a few things... in this specific order: 1. I had a panic attack that caused me to fear for my life. That was considered a traumatic event to me. 2. I kept over analyzing my feelings every day, looking for another panic attack to happen, and the more I looked, the more it happened. 3. I kept blaming my recurring panic attacks on external things such as food, People, events, etc. basically everything but my own thoughts. So I changed my entire life around based on my anxiety in order to try and stop it from happening. Basically reconstructing my life to fit my anxiety. It never worked, but I was already trapped in letting my panic attacks and thought process control my daily routines & avoidance of stuff I used to like. 4. Once I realized my thoughts were the ones causing me panic, I faced my thoughts and trained myself not to react to them with emotion, and training my brain to not stress over thoughts because thoughts can be meaningless when you choose to. 5. Derealization went away on its own when I learned to react to my stressful thoughts with something other than emotion. I just imagine a white dragon flying in the sky and focus on the white dragon as an immediate response to a negative thought. Showing my brain that I’m not scared of that thought. I acknowledged the thought... and even responded to it, just not with fear. And I mean thoughts such as “you must be going crazy” “nothing will ever work. You’ll never be fixed” “the panic attacks will never stop” “what if suicide is the only way out”. Trust that your brain will get VERY CREATIVE when it comes to anxious thoughts. It will hit you with scenarios you’d never expect. But you’ll ALWAYS know “this is just one of those anxious thoughts, not going for it.. here’s a white dragon in the sky enjoy” *focuses on a white dragon flying in the sky for literally 5 minutes straight and nothing else * Every single thought that sent a wave of anxiety through my head, and caused more “what if’s”, I immediately started to notice those weren’t “me” thoughts. Those were anxious thoughts, and they have to be responded to differently for now on. You don’t realize it, but DPDR is a defense reaction, not a condition. Your brain thinks there is danger around so it cuts your emotions and normal focus off (DPDR) in order for you to fight the threat. The threat is your thoughts. Your thoughts are a threat because you are reacting to them with fear and anxiety. So the threat ain’t leaving until you react to your scary thoughts a different way. If the threat ain’t leaving, the DPDR ain’t leaving. Sort through your emotions, then re wire your brain waves until it becomes daily practice. Them eventually it’ll become second nature, and you finally graduate DPDR boot camp. Good luck to you all

@@lukaluka9843 hey bro. 6 months so far. and dpdr actually is not over for me, i went through a phase where it was off for a week, and it came back on weeks after posting this. i am still learning to cope with DPDR but now i am starting to understand that no matter what you think, good or bad, DP is a feeling that will be there. it will suck to feel that way of course and you will hate it, but whether you want to hide in your room or try to continue your normal day, the feeling will be there either way. we only make it worse when we try to fight it or find reason for why we feel it. it will go away and come back when your body feels sick, or a stressful event happens, or something you dont really understand causes it to flare up again because ur nervous system is still super sensitive. u just have to remember that DP is a feeling that won't go away whether you think good or bad about it, so why stress your self over it? let it exist. let yourself feel it, and trust that it will pass. your nervous system is still trying to heal and go back to normal after your traumatic event and some times u will disassociate when you least expect it. just ALLOW it to happen and pretend that it will never go away and that way you will be at peace with it WHILE you recover from it. it;s the only way

Dude, u saved my life! I am from a country where weed is forbidden and a couple of days ago me and my wife were in Amsterdam. We arrived there in the morning, took a small walk, visited some sx shops and had some snacks then we saw almost everyone walked around with a joint still so we thought it isn’t not a bad idea to share one REALLY light joint together so we visited a coffee shop and asked for the WEAKEST stuff. We smoked it right on one of the central streets in front of that coffee shop and I felt like I got to another universe which I hated. I was so afraid i thought I had schizophrenia which i thought was never gonna end. I was so afraid of hallucinations and time loops, I thought I should have committed some bad things to myself. I prayed to God to end that all to end but it seemed to never end. Then I thought I died and experienced hell forever. Thanks to God for my wife who didn’t feel much and wasn’t afraid of my inadequate actions, she took me to our hotel room and I we had a nap. After a nap I was still high but at least I was adequate. It has been five days since then of feeling these symptoms and I have been extremely afraid of them. But u really calmed me down and explained me what the heck it is. Ladies and Gentlemen, please, never do any drugs, have fun in some other way! Never doing this crap anymore either! Peace to everyone 💪🏻🔥🦝

Guys. It will get better! I promised to myself that I would come back to this video when my DPDR is gone so here I am! I suffered from DPDR for about 8-9 months, because I mixed weed and alcohol. Now, it completely went away! It probably was the worst time of my life. Things didn't feel real, I had an incredibly bad memory, my emotions felt kinda numb, and my eyesight got so much worse. I lived alone when this happened so I was isolated with my own thoughts, which only made it worse, and which made my anxiety so much worse 4 months passed by, I couldn't stop doing research on DPDR, but everybody said the same thing: DISTRACT YOURSELF. I failed my university year because I wasnt able to focus, my memory was bad and I kinda felt dumb because of the DPDR. No matter how much I tried to explain to my parents, they just couldnt understand because they didnt know what I went through. After that, it was summer and I went back to live with my parents during the 2 month vacation. It immediatly felt amazing being with people you talk to everyday. Eventhough I was quite scared, I decided to get a summerjob at a hotel reception. At the beginning it was hard, most of all because of the DPDR. I wasnt able to smile often and i often repeated myself because of the poor memory. But after a week, I was so busy with the hotel work that there were times where I wouldn't think about my condition for like 4-5 hours. It was still there, but I managed to not think about it for the first time. Hours became days. I was so busy constantly that I didnt even have time to think about it. I stopped researching about the condition because for the first time, I actually felt progress! The more busy I was, the better it got for me. I actually started remembering aspects of the day much better, and I wasnt scared anymore. I went on vacation with friends and I was actually able to enjoy things again. (however I didnt drink any alcohol or smoked weed again during that time). After that my school year started again. Instead of living alone I decided to live with roommates. Best. Idea. Ever. I was constantly hanging out with them and without realizing, slowly but steadily, my DPDR disappeared. Im now able to work for uni again, I remember everything, I feel my emotions again, things felt real again. The recovery didn't come from 1 day to another. It was a slow and steady progress. However, I now feel better than ever. Good luck to you all who are going through this. Trust me, stay busy and its a matter of time before you get back to normal.

I really needed to read this! I'm going on month 6 of recovering after smoking two puffs of weed for the first time. Worst experience ever! DPDR, excruciating anxiety, panic attacks, you name it. Started feeling better and back to myself around month 4 but like you mentioned it just doesn't go away from 1 day to the next...it's a SLOW process. I'm much better and pretty much getting back to myself but still feel very weird at times. Hopefully I'm 100% normal soon.

This happened to me for over a year and it was terrible. But I was able to overcome it and am 100% back to normal. I distracted myself with college and got a 4.0 gpa for the first time in my life. I was even able to smoke weed again in small amounts, but the anxiety slowly started to return, so I cut it out completely and it was the best decision I ever made. I wish I had this video when I was experiencing DP, but had to figure this out all on my own. The tips in this video are great, be kind and patient with yourself and you will get through it! Now that it's all over, I even think it made me a stronger person, as crazy as that sounds. Weed can be helpful for many people, but this darker side of the drug needs to be talked about more. If you're experiencing DP, listen to this video and hang in there!

I’m 15 years old and one day I decided that for my first time it would be a good idea to try edibles. The edibles I took were 50mg each ( per gummy) and I had about 8, along with half a cookie which was roughly around 100-200mg. I consumed around 600mg of edibles for my first time and every since then I haven’t come down back to my normal self. I would always search things up and try to find answers on why I was having panic attacks non stop or the odd feelings of being not real or connected in my body. Im so glad I found this video. When I watched through it I ended up crying as the comfort it brought me knowing that I will be okay was honestly nice. It’s been over 3 months, I’ve consumed edibles on July first and it’s the 26 of October. Kind of crazy and weird to know that I’ve been feeling this way for that long. Still on a long journey for recovery and I’m putting trust that it’ll go away. It has taken over my life especially with the brain fog, the panic attacks, the intrusive thoughts, me being unable to talk to people etc.., but now I know I can recover and these helpful tips are what I needed to get started. Thank you

Hey Ashley, thanks for your comment. Firstly, please make sure that you’re speaking to your parents about what’s happening. It’s very important that they know what’s going on. Secondly, don't worry, that all sounds like a very typical case of weed-induced DP to me. I know DP can be frightening but remember that it's just your body and brain's natural response to stress and anxiety. It's not permanent and it can't hurt you. You can and will recover. Make sure to read through all the info and articles on my website at www.dpmanual.com And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DP 👍

You just gotta realize that depersonalization is self-inflicted even though it doesn't seem like it. You're constantly monitoring your own body and mind which puts you in a state of dissociation, especially when combined with fear. The cure is to just live your life, and you'll eventually forget about it and you will feel 100% normal again.

It goes away! Here's my story. So it was 12 am, I was 13. Me and my cousin went out and she convinced me to smoke weed. I said why not, she does it all the time so it wouldn't be so bad? That day was the hardest thing to go though. Multiple panic attacks, the feeling of everything zooming in and out, I don't know, it felt as if I took LSD or something. Because it didn't feel like weed. It was hell. I had to deal with it for 2 years, constantly landing on my knees and praying to God that it would fucking go away. I had no hope, and thought I broke my brain. Everyday I had to cope with my panic attacks and overthinking. This is where everything changed. I actually started to get more intelligent, smart and calmer. I learnt to control my panic attacks, because I've been through so much during the year. I grew stronger, and promise to never, NEVER fucking touch that shit again. I turned towards god and exercise, even meditate, things I never usually do. I study more and focus on my musical talents, and I'm more social. DPDR is a gate to hell and the most helpful medicine you could even have. Listen, it gets better. It gets better. I promise.

Hey, someone please help me. I'm 15, I have ADHD and I smoked for the first time a couple months ago, and have done edibles a couple times in the past month. when I smoked I was so incredibly paranoid and had the worst trip ever (I did it in a park). so I had "an anxiety attack" at school like a week later, which I now think is dp/dr, as i'd never experienced anything like this before doing weed. so I took some edibles at home, hoping that I wouldn't be paranoid this time as I was safe at home, but I was still really paranoid. I had really bad cotton mouth. now, almost every day I get these "anxiety attacks" where nothing feels real and I can't use my phone properly (it feels exactly how it was when I was high) and I start freaking out but I can't move, walk or talk properly, so I'll just sit in silence. I can always feel my tongue in my mouth and it feels really big and uncomfortable (like cotton mouth), its a horrible feeling and it never goes away now. I don't know what to do, I feel so helpless. Is this dp/dr?

Hey Sebastian, thanks for your comment and I'm very glad to hear the video was helpful 😊 I know DP can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. The National Institute on Mental Illness estimates that up to 75% of people experience at least one depersonalization / derealization episode in their lives. It's part of your brain's natural defence mechanism and usually it only lasts a few seconds or minutes at a time. It's only when it's focused on as a separate problem (feeling like you're going crazy / in a dream etc) that it can turn into a feedback loop with the anxiety that caused it in the first place. But no matter what caused it or how long you've had it, you can always switch it off completely by stopping that anxious feedback loop. Make sure to carefully read through all the articles and info on my website at www.dpmanual.com

Thank you so much for your videos. Recently have started having DP pretty much from the moment i wake up to the moment I go to bed. I would have horrible panic attacks, at times entire days i was consumed with intense panic that I'd gone too far and forever messed my brain up. I think how I imagine recovery to be is unrealistic because I want it to be immediate. But your tips are so helpful and I plan to incorporate many things.. firstly and now that I hear you say it I fully agree. I would research it constantly and be on forums a lot reading other peoples stories and it would only make me more anxious. Even though I know it's anxiety at times I think I have a morbid curiosity to always be researching why this is happening and what's causing it. I really do appreciate these videos and I love them. I had to stop drinking my favorite energy drinks because I simply couldn't. I used to enjoy them but now when I have one I spiral INTENSELY into panic attacks and I start to have more intense DP symptoms. I have a question if you're reading this. Now that you've recovered, do you still not drink caffeine (if you did before), or is that something that may be able to be resumed after recovery happens?

Every time I would I’d have anxiety bc I’d b out in public or in school knowing im high so that’d give me anxiety. I’d tell myself I’ll be fine after the high wears off but i would still smoke consistently. Up until this sense of euphoria laced w anxiety stayed even after the high wore off. @@Rudeboii1k I understand, I swear to you I was there, being told by Psychs it was just general anxiety. One mentioned the word depersonalization and I googled it, perfect match. Slowly but surely it went away and it seemed I would never not have that thought but you will get better I promise. I wish this video existed in 2011 when I had this experience. I felt so alone, lost, hopeless, etc... and had nobody to relate to. Almost 9 years later I still experience spurts of it, but it's honestly changed my life in a weirdly positive way and I have a better outlook on life. xvizdereq I didn’t have fear of dying but i struggled HEAVY with fear of never finding normal again. For me, existentialism was always something I was interested in, and I think the dp just made me more affected by it. To make that get better I cut existential media out of my diet completely. No more videos about it. As for finding normal, I think the guy in the video is right. The FEAR of not finding normal is ultimately the worst part of it. for me it was actually the whole thing. I still struggle with it sometimes, but as I work with a therapist I realize this is more of a reflection of my low self-esteem and my distrust in my ability to provide a life for myself that I will be satisfied with. My distrust that i can change and grow, even after bad things happen. That is the fundamental issue of long term dp (imo). 1. Cut existentialism out of your internet-diet COMPLETELY and 2. work on proving to yourself that you are capable of growth and change. For me that looked like going to therapy, giving myself a room makeover, exercising, being more attentive in my relationships, going to therapy (lmao).

xvizdereq getting a new job, things that will bring tangible, physical change into the 3D world so that you have a better grip on reality, not just living in your head all the time, and not in a virtual reality either. I’m a musician, so I got on a schedule releasing music once a week. If you have dp, you need structure to help you heal. Your mind needs to regain trust in the physical realm again, and it needs to believe you are a physical being in a tangible reality so that it can go back to functioning normally. And you can help provide that healing by intentionally reacquainting your brain with the 3rd dimension.

@@runeskate Thanks for your comment Joe! 😊 So people develop DP and other anxiety condition from panic attacks and work stresses all the time, not just from drugs like weed or LSD. Also I think it's too easy to call any drug 'evil' while overlooking its many benefits, or the fact that many people enjoy it quite safely. But it is important to highlight its potential negative side effects; that is to say that just like any psychoactive drug, people react to it differently, and for some people it can trigger anxiety, panic attacks etc. Check out this article when you can: www.dpmanual.com/articles/what-causes-depersonalization-disorder/

Long story kinda short: I had a horrendous weed edible experience two weeks ago. I was so high I couldn't control my thoughts, nothing made sense. I could trust nothing. I didn't even want to watch TV. It was like living a fever dream but I was awake. NO home remedy worked and I was convinced this hellish experience was permanent. I woke up high and disoriented. This persisted for 2 days, especially the disconnect with time - a 20 min car ride felt like a freakish 4 hours. It felt like I was a robot and I couldn't feel emotions. I found this video and it did help me a lot. Today, I can happily say I am 100% myself. My hazy short term memory problem was the last symptom to clear up. Please continue to remind yourself that your mind is tricking you to think you're still high, crazy, or robotic. This disorder unquestionably reversible and this video helped guide me towards sanity.

Hey, thanks for your comment and I'm glad to hear the video was helpful. Firstly, please make sure that you’re speaking to your parents about what’s happening. It’s very important that they know what’s going on. Secondly, I know DP can be frightening but remember that it's just your body and brain's natural response to stress and anxiety.

Don't worry, problems with sleeping are very common with DP and they will pass as your recovery continues. www.dpmanual.com/articles/why-does-depersonalization-affect-sleep-and-dreams/ I also include a relaxation audio program with my book The Depersonalization Manual, which many people have told me is super helpful for falling asleep if you're suffering with DP :)
